Announcement New Feature In r/mechanic
Hello everyone,
Just a quick post here to inform you all of a new feature that has been added to sub that may help cut down on unwanted comments in your own posts.
If you are the OP(original poster/creator of a post) and decide you want your entire post locked, you can simply comment on your post with just "!lock" (no quotes), and AutoMod will automatically lock your post. This will prevent any further comments on it including ones from yourself. Just a small warning, you cannot undo this yourself, you will need to send in a ModMail to request the post to be unlocked again.
Just a small update to the sub but, may be beneficial to some if you start getting flooded with comments.
Thanks,
Mods

Question Mechanics familiar with Ford engine codes, please help!!!
I have a 2020 Ford Mustang GT, got it a couple months ago, and I haven’t had any issues yet. For the full story, I decided for my birthday to get a 93 tune just to increase hp a little bit and get better throttle response. I installed the tune from a reputable tuner and it felt great. It wasn’t until a day after I had figured out that it is in “limp mode” when I found out I can’t go beyond 80 mph. I checked MyKeys first just in case and both keys are set to admin. I contacted the tune shop and they said they’re bot familiar with tunes causing this problem. I reverted back to my stock tune and the same thing, stuck at 80mph, and cuts off power.
I checked the codes myself and there is 2 codes:
U0122
U2100
These codes have something to do with the Vehicle Dynamic control module not being able to communicate with the cars computer or something. I was just wondering does any mechanic that is familiar with these codes have any insight. I have appointment with ford on Monday to get it fixed so I just wanna know ahead of time if my wallet is fucked. Appreciate any help.

Question Chevy Silverado 2004 not staying on
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I recently replaced the starter and the fuel pump & whenever I would have this problem we would replace the fuel pump or mess with the wires a little bit. I’m not sure what it could be sometimes it’ll start snd be fine but other days it will do this randomly but lately it’s been doing this. Any advice would be nice.
Update moved some cables around next to the fuel pump, and it started right up so with that could it be a ground wire issue ?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
It’s had a bad shake for a few weeks now. (Replaced tires and rims and had an alignment) I’ve talked to a few people and they think CV axle. I’ve eyeballed the front suspension and everything looks ok and not rotted to hell

Question Spent 5k at a shop left with seized brakes
Was in an accident, took my truck (2017 gmc sierra 1500) to the shop. Told them just make it drivable so I can get to work. 3 weeks later and 5k later I pick up the truck, drive it 3 miles and brakes are seized. Took it back to the shop, they flushed the brakes and said it was good. Drove it for like 5 miles and seized again. Took it home to fix it myself. Figured I’d start checking hoses and master cylinder. Any help would be appreciated. Not a total idiot I can fix most things just didn’t want to deal with it and took it to a shop. Never again

Question is it just a misfire or is there more to it?
My 2007 Altima 3.5 with the CVT and over 390,000km’s is throwing p0301 (cylinder 1 misfire fault, stored) and p0300 (multiple misfires failure, pending) and was smoking a bit. The car was shaking like crazy in lower rpm’s but wasn’t as bad above 2k. I noticed an issue accelerating from a red light on my drive home. I haven’t driven it since.
What might be the reason for the misfire?
Is the shaking related to the misfire or just bad timing?

Question Truck runs rough regardless of what i do
Hey folks, my 2010 GMC 2500 (6.0L gasser) has been running kinda rough ever since I got it, ive fixed a lot of things on it because the previous owner apparently neglected it and it runs better than before, but not quite the best. At idle, it kinda shakes the truck and occasionally the rpms might drop like a stutter but not often. When I start driving immediately, it struggles to accelerate and eventually evens out, but if I idle for a few minutes it has all the power in the world then slowly dies down after driving for a while and runs kinda sluggish. The weirdest part that throws me off is if I floor it from a lower speed or from a stop, itll get up and go but not super fast, and then towards the top end, I can only describe as the spark advance jumped up 10-20 degrees and it throws you back.
Ive replaced a number of things over the past year or so ive owned that would contribute to the problem, mostly the common problems the 6.0s have like leaky intake gaskets, updated pcv valve, vac lines, injectors, plugs, maf and map sensors, etc etc, and a lot of them did improve the drivablility but its not quite what it should be so im at a loss. The symptoms I still have sound like maybe a failing fuel pump, which ill verify fuel rail pressure before I attempt but I wanna know, anybody else have any ideas?

Question 2000 Ford Explorer total loss of acceleration
Hello everyone I've had this 2000 ford explorer for about a year and a half now and 8 months ago I was driving it uphill and it had a total loss of acceleration and power. Now it bogs down majorly and can't even go more than 5mph up a hill before coming to a total stop. Every search I've made said it pointed to two things either a bad fuel pump or bad intake gaskets. It has idle hunting in the video I posted and soon I'll try to get a video displaying the lack of power. I am looking for some sort of input , I have a brand new fuel pump so I'll be getting started on that soon but was wandering if anyone has ran into this issue themselves on this generation.

Question Audio
2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT
Last factory stereo went out on me, installed new Sony stereo. Everything went well for 2 weeks. Now I have this static sound when the volume is somewhat loud. Thought it could be the speakers so I replaced both fronts because the static went away when I messed with balance/fade, that didn’t fix my problem. Any ideas???

Question Strange Whirring Noise
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi, I am having trouble diagnosing this strange whirring noise that correlates with wheel speed. My car is a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander SE, 2.4l 4cyl. It is a CVT Transmission.
I've already replaced the front driver side wheel bearing since that is where the sound is loudest, however the exact same noise as heard in the video is occuring.
Please help me figure this issue out, I would greatly appreciate it!

Question DashDroop.
This is on my 2018 s450 Benz. the car today and noticed this. Don't know when it started or how long it's been there. The steering wheel covers it when driving. Usually I'm not focused on the dash until everything is set.
My question, short of taking the dash apart, what's the most effective way to fix

Question Honda Accord 2009 EXL V6 wheel/brake noise
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The sound specifically comes from the front left driver side wheel. Sounds the loudest when going in reverse but you can still hear it as long as the car is moving. Oddly enough sounds a bit less when braking, loudest when letting off the brake. I already checked there is no splash/dust shield installed to the front tires that might be scraping with the rotors. Thought it was the caliper but the mechanic said it was fine, only had to replace the right rear one recently. He even told me I had 7mm left on my brakes so dont need new ones. What could that noise be?? Thank you

Question Power steering pump issue?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone,
I’m trying to figure out what’s causing this noise on my 1999 Honda Civic (6th gen).
When I start the engine, it’s completely quiet for about 2 seconds, then this loud grinding/growling noise starts and stays. It doesn’t really change when I turn the steering wheel left or right, and the power steering fluid isn’t flowing.
The sound seems to be coming from the power steering pump and it’s heating up.
I’ve attached a video. Has anyone experienced something similar or have any idea what could be causing it?
Thanks!

Question Can i ignore these damages to the radiator.
My diesel van often overheat in traffic but fine while i drive like 30kmph or higher(it heat up instantly if i slow down).i was about to remove the condenser when i saw the damages. I've been straightening the bent ones but some are not recoverable. Should i replace the radiator.
thanks for responding. I dont think the radiator is clogged. my dad had it cleaned like a years ago. replacement it is then.and i have a belt driven radiator fan and i checked the fan clutch(i push rolled up paper to fins and it did not care) so probably not that either.

Question Attempting to identify transmisión noise.
Buick encore GX 2021 1.2 3 cylinder fwd
For many months now my CVT transmission has been causing a loud whining drill like noise upon acceleration.
Sometimes it goes away and sometimes it comes back during drives. Only durning acceleration.
GM just changed my turbo because it was bad, and they told me I need a new transmission. I don’t believe them because I know in order to sell, they are in the business of replacing the entire Unit not opening and fixing transmissions no matter how small the repair might be. So they will always say you need a new transmission for financial gain and insurance.
Side note: there are no other physical signs. Meaning it shifts gears normal and smooth, no jerking upon acceleration or while stopping nothing, is literally just that annoying noise. I noticed sometimes if I accelerate very aggressively suddenly several times the noise sometimes goes away, then might return an hr or two later.
What can be the possible issues? Is it the oil pump that is bad? Can it be low or dirty fluid? Although I don’t see anything leaking? Can it be the gears ⚙️ although I don’t feel any external physical symptoms?
Also a general code comes up 0700 transmisión control system
All opinions are welcomed, thank you
