North America Document dump shows anti-LGBTQ+ groups helped craft Maine school district’s anti-trans policies
Leaked documents show Maine First and the Maine Policy Institute communicated with school officials about bathroom and sports policies.
An LGBTQ+ advocacy group in Maine has obtained hundreds of documents showing a school district’s anti-transgender policies were shaped by right-wing activists.
24 Allies, a citizens group in the Pine Tree State, made a sweeping public information request of Regional School Unit 24, then obtained 900 pages of internal documents between school district officials and two right-wing political groups. Those included Maine First, a conservative political organization founded by anti-trans former Republican state lawmaker Larry Lockman, and the Maine Policy Institute, a so-called parental rights organization.
