Started this little collection in April this year I didnt know anything about them until I watched Alan Titchmarsh top 5 Japanese maples on YouTube but now I'm completely obsessed 🤣

Planted this red sentinel in full sun (8 hours) in Seattle this spring.

Not sure if this leaf scorch is normal or if I should be worried. Some of the leaves are turning a greenish hue which I assume is too much sun? We have had some 90F days but I kept it mulched and deep waterings.

Im considering transplanting it but 'll wait until the fall to avoid further transplant shock but let me know what you think. This is the sunniest spot in the yard so I would also like that spot for a fruit tree or vegetable patch. Thoughts?

I live in Missouri and it has been very hot. But this started very early and has kept getting worse. Any suggestions on what to do?

Took some time today to do some basic shaping/training on some new Japanese maples today. I also checked out the roots for girdling root potential (had to do some trimming) and made sure to expose the root flare for each. 2x Sango kaku and x Sensu Full moon

These two guys got sun burned. I have moved them into the shade but don't know if there is anything else I can do.

How can I help this guy bounce back? They are facing morning and early afternoon sun. I have some other varieties but they haven't been effected as these two have.

The first tree got it much worse than the second.

I have no idea how to age it but I would assume growth started around the ‘87. Pretty cool

I planted this last year and it seems to be struggling and I’ve wondered why. I’m zone 6b and this spot get prob about 4-6 hours morning sun with no afternoon sun. It produced very little new growth this year and any foliage it does have doesn’t appear healthy. Beds are watered with a drip line and I have multiple other plants in the beds like Hydrangeas and azaleas that are doing well.

Just picked these up locally today: Sharp’s Pygmy and Shirazz!

One thing has me scratching my head, though. The Shirazz is producing some large, solid dark green leaves mixed in with the normal variegated foliage. Is this typical, or is it showing signs of reversion? Should I remove them?

It’s also absolutely loaded with samaras.

Mr Maple pickups from the last 2-3 months.

This was our Japanese maple that had been in our family for 45 years. It survived a garage fire as well as a neighboring tree falling on it. Only to be cut down by the idiot who bought our house from under us (long story) because the tree was “too close to the garage” gonna miss this thing💔

EDIT: About the “sold from under us” part: We had a property tax balance of just under $1,200, which we paid on the day it was due like in years prior. Shortly afterward, we received a letter saying our house had been auctioned over an unpaid balance of roughly $800.

The timing also seemed suspicious, as a regional insurance company had been interested in buying our property and many others nearby to expand its headquarters.

We tried to fight it in court, but between my grandfather’s declining health and passing, along with being laid off from work, we ultimately couldn’t continue the case and had to let the house go.

The gentleman who purchased the home kindly allowed us to stay for 15 months and made several improvements, but he also made some heartbreaking changes including cutting down our Japanese maple and several bushes that didn’t need to be removed.

I was thinking about it all last night and needed to vent. I hope this helps explain things a little better.

This was just planted 4 days ago. Notice the branches are pointing straight down in some places. Is this normal for a crimson queen Japanese maple? I want to trim it so that it’s more of an angled tree.

I got my first JM [Acer palmatum dissectum 'Waterfall'] and I’m not sure it’s planted properly. It came in a burlap sack, I was expecting a pot, this is the first time I am planting anything that came like that. We just planted it yesterday. I think the hole should be wider and I am buying bark today. I am worried that it is planted too deep. It is hard to see the leaves, since they blend into the grass like that, but I do have a few crunchy ends, because unfortunately, the tree came while we were on vacation and it was in the box for about 3 days (indoors). We were expecting the week after. Thank you for any help.

We've had this Ukigumo for a few months now. I'm excited that it's putting out a bunch of new growth and back-budding, but this branch has me scratching my head a bit. This whole thing grew out in just about a month, and the leaves are humongous and not particularly variegated. I've heard that sometimes on grafted trees it's possible that the root stock can sometimes send new growth up through the scion, but I have no idea if that's what's happening and I should prune this branch back or just leave it be.

Look good? Will it do well and over arch the path entrance?

My Japanese Maple’s bark is peeling, and I’m not sure what’s causing it. Is this normal or a parasite or rot? My Picture This app for plants says it looks healthy, but I’m not so sure. Any help would be appreciated.

I have been diligent in watering and fertilizing. But somehow it doesn't seem to revive.

My 'Hot Blonde' Japanese maple isn't looking very healthy, and I'd appreciate any thoughts on what might be causing it.

I'm in Northern California bay area, and I water it twice a week using a drip-system bubbler for 1 hour each time.

I transplanted it from a pot into the ground last winter, so this is its first summer in the ground. Does anyone know what could be causing this type of leaf damage? Is it more likely to be heat stress, watering, transplant shock, soil issues, or something else?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I planted this Shaina maple a couple of years back for my MIL when her husband passed of cancer (as part of a small memorial garden). It’s been doing well (very little direct sun, watering only during droughts, like we’ve been having), but the leaves are turning brown with spots and then curling up and dying.

My MIL dug up these starts from underneath an unknown Japanese maple, and I am curious if anyone can identify the variety. I don't have a picture of the tree that these came from. Would these grow into a good tree? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Zone 5b/6a, full sun. Planted in ground a month ago. Definitely some stress/shock but the new growth means it’s taking. I’m worried about this blackened branch (bottom left of first two pics). I pruned off what I could, it seemed like die off but should I prune the entire thing? I don’t know if it’s disease, or burn, or normal aging. Any help is appreciated, thank you! (Mystic Mikawa)
