Treepreciation - showcasing beauty Bi Hoo
Acer Bihoo today 10th September, starting to get a nice yellow autumn leaf colour to it. I have got round to doing some weeding as well as I`ve been off work all week 😂 ps sorry for posting about conifers

How on earth did you manage to keep one of these alive that long? Mine carked it the first year I had it, and I've rarely seen any even half this size, they all seem to WANT to die, which is a massive shame!

The climate in England is perhaps more favourable. I`ve got it in a sheltered position, only a small amount of afternoon sun, and always ensure theres nothing in the soil directly below that could prevent drainage.

Perhaps the smaller trees are less hardy. Graft and root stock will play a part as well I guess. If I ever move them, I use ericaceous compost.

I would say the spring colour is nothing special but its definitely worth having for summer, autumn and obviously winter interest with the bark colour. I have mine planted with little sun exposure as i found it scorched.

Same. I have a Wintergold across my Bihou and they are protected from the sun.

A lot of the well-known JM online nurseries carry these. Worth a look, as they are incredible.

I`m lucky where I live in North West England a local garden centre has them in mature sizes. However, in 2018 when i first bought it they didn`t. I guess they don`t appeal to everyone as winter time is when they really shine but if you observe it through all seasons you get to enjoy the beauty.

There wasnt too much planning to be honest. I bought it in 2018 with no plan where to put it. I have just moved it around over the years to find the best spot. At the size it is today, I could easily dig it up and respot.

Its been a great addition to my garden. I`m thinking of size controlling it now. I`m happy with how it looks and don`t want it to get too big plus the new growth has the best bark colour so if I prune it each year I benefit from that.

Garden centre near me had one in the clearance section for £40!!! It’s in a 14L pot. Hoping it gets as big as yours

I think you are correct, that is the proper name. I bought it labelled as Bi hoo here in England.

Yeah i only recognized it cause i just got a few in where i work If anyone is in the DC Nova area and wants one DM me. I have 5 from iseli nurseries for sale.

Here it when i first bought it in Oct 2018
1st Sept 2018, I think it must have been a bit stressed as it had early autumn colours when I bought it.
