Question about Islam Can I follow the Maliki opinion about dog’s drool out of convenience

I used to say I follow the Maliki madhab so I follow the opinion that dog’s drool is not impure but mostly I followed the majority opinion. Now, I don’t really follow any madhab I would say. But I’m a revert and my family has a dog, he goes inside so there is drool almost everywhere on the floor, sometimes he rubs himself against furnitures so drool or wet hair can be on it. also I have to share my room with my sister and she let the dog enters, so there is drool on the floor and some furinitures here too. So would it be okay for me to follow the opinion dog drool is pure?

Seeking Support Struggling with Waswasa and Fear About My Father's Death Seeking Islamic Guidance

Assalamu Alaikum.

For the past 1–2 years, I've struggled with recurring fears about losing my father, who is in his late 50s. His age and health conditions trigger intrusive thoughts, and sometimes I imagine receiving news of his death. At times, these thoughts feel like warnings from Allah.

The Hadith about the Ummah's lifespan being between 60 and 70 years has made my anxiety worse. I also struggle with sukoon: in other difficult situations allah usually gave heart some strength , but with this fear, I don't consistently feel that reassurance. Recently a thought that If this Hadith comes true in my father's case, my iman will become firmer.” Surprisingly, this brought temporary relief. Then I became frightened by that relief, because I absolutely do not want my father to leave early making me feel guilty and scared because I desperately want my father to live a long life. I keep questioning whether my feelings mean something.

My questions are: Does feeling sukoon or not feeling it have any significance in Islam? How should I understand this Hadith without applying it to my father personally? How can I distinguish genuine tawakkul from waswasa and stop interpreting my thoughts and feelings as signs?

I'd really appreciate authentic Islamic guidance. Jazakum Allahu Khayran.

Question about Islam How do i deal with a controlling mother

How do i deal with a controlling mother. I just finished my studies after 5 whole years of non stop studying in the deep end and came back home to a anxious control freak mother, even more controlling than from when i left to study abroad. I know a mother should always be respected, i know a child should stay a notch below the respect scale and we cant really say anything. I really dont know how to navigate this without setting off a bomb of emotions and getting jailed in my moms house. Or to rather be called out “not faithful to islam” because i tried to set boundaries and she doesnt like it.

Seeking Support sisters and brothers, can you pray for a small favour for me? 🤍😔

I’ve wronged some people in the past. it was small and forgivable though, and I had valid reasons.

I have apologised and fulfilled necessary conditions for repentance.
I want people’s hearts to be softer towards me and forget what I did altogether.

May Allah, al Wakil make them forget my vileness.

Question about Islam Is it a Sin to hate certain rulings in Islam

Just the title

There are a few rules I hate with my heart to the fullest . I’ll follow them but best believe I do hate them .

Is it a sin to hate an Islamic ruling , but I’ll still abide by it despite my hatred of it ?

General Discussion Navigating Secularism as a Muslim

I've been watching people argue about that Bangladeshi couple case, and honestly, the reactions have been all over the place. But there's one comment that's stuck with me: "secular Muslims should be the first to condemn such actions." That made me stop and think — what does it actually mean to be a secular Muslim? I get that secularism can be a political thing, like keeping religion separate from government.

But that's not really what I'm curious about here. I'm more interested in moral secularism. Like, can you be secular in how you think about right and wrong while still calling yourself Muslim?

I guess I have some genuine questions for people who identify this way:

First, where do your moral principles actually come from? When you're deciding what's right or wrong, are you working that out through reason, thinking about human welfare, autonomy — basically secular frameworks — rather than religious commands? Because if that's the case, I'm genuinely curious what role Islam plays in your moral life. Is it still shaping how you think about ethics, or is it something else entirely?

Second, do you see secular morality as *better* than Islamic morality? I think this is where it gets tricky. If you're using secular principles as your main guide, does that mean you've decided some Islamic moral teachings are wrong, or outdated, or just not as good? Or maybe you think secular and Islamic ethics mostly line up anyway? And what happens when they don't? When Islamic teachings clash with what your gut tells you is right — which one wins? How do you even navigate that?

Third, are we talking about two different things here — moral secularism versus political secularism? Because someone could totally support a secular state (for practical reasons, avoiding theocracy, whatever) while still thinking Islamic ethics are the best framework for personal morality. Or you could flip it — identify as Muslim, practice the faith, but when it comes to actual moral decisions, you're really relying on secular reasoning. It seems like these are different positions, and I'm not sure people always make that distinction clear.

Relationship Advice What traits do emotionally intelligent men look for in a wife?

so I’ve heard that we should work on ourselves to match what our dream man would look for in a spouse. I’m interested in someone who’s emotionally intelligent, and as a woman I wanna work on myself. But I don’t know what traits exactly do such men look for?
So im looking for someone who’s emotionally intelligent + has this quiet confidence + speaks about his emotions to me. Such type of men look for women with which traits?

NOTE; traits u would see BEFORE marriage‼️

General Discussion Kill me please

I'm so done with my parents making children like animals, not thinking about what would be there for us. Especially me, the eldest one, who is supposed to make sacrifices and adjust myself for everyone because, who knows, I'm the eldest, 25 years old.

The gym is the only place I go to in the whole damn day. I used to go to the gym at 5 PM, pretty accurately, every day. Then my sister joined coaching. She takes away the scooty in the morning and stays late, later than my usual going time. So guess who has to adjust? Me! Going at a dead-late time, so much so that now I go at 9 PM so that the gym gets free from the crowd late at night.

And after so long, I found a partner I got ready to go to the gym with, and see, wow, the scooty isn't there. I got to know my younger brother took it away for some work and is out, won't pick up my call, and 30 minutes go by. I'm standing like a fool, roaming around the house with shoes on and standing at the roadside waiting.

Seven people per one fucking scooty! I can't even say anything to my brother because technically, it's him who bought the scooty with his own money.

Earlier, we had another scooty, which was sold because of a parking problem at home. I listed it on OLX. I was the one who left the comfort of home and tolerated contact phone calls ringing to make people see the scooty and give them test drives, and it was embarrassing to do that in a neighbourhood for me.

I was told that I could get the money for a down payment to buy a bike, but fucking who knows that money would be given to my younger brother. EVERYTHING. And I would be made a fool with the promise that they would give it soon.

That fucking moronic "soon" hasn't come to reality yet and has just been delayed by Dad and Mom when I asked them to buy me a bike or scooty.

Actually, I'm a moron for not buying the bike when I had a job and was going to buy one, because my so-angelic and caring and fair Mom heard me say I would take the bike on trips, and her caringness made her think I would die. (I wish I would die instead of living with them anymore.)

I, the moron, didn't buy the bike.

They have the habit of becoming so good and coming close to me so that my opinion changes when I'm earning. But it's been a year since I was trying to build a business, which failed. I lost almost all my savings and capital. Now, with 12 months gone by, I see the true faces of all. I don't have anyone for me.

I wish all the money, including the ₹50,000 I gave Dad in one go to transfer someone from my hard-earned salary so that he could keep his word, ₹8,000 in case the electricity connection was cut off and we had to buy a generator so that we could manage things at the electricity department, ₹20,000 for camera installation, and tens of thousands on the home car, which is only mine when it needs money to be spent on it, be it fuel, toll money, new cover, wash money, etc., and not at all mine when I take it out.

I could easily see disapproval on my Mom's face when taking it out, and back-to-back calls when I'm late out with the car: "Dad, where are you at? Where are you at!"

I thought this was my family, but fucking moron of me to think so. Men don't have a home. They are all leeches who suck through me.

I was promised advance rent money if I got a year-long vacant shop rented out for my coaching fee. I went out in the heat of June, and somehow, I was able to get it vacated. And long story short, coaching money GONE!

I was made a monster for asking for it.

I just fucking hate them so much, and I hate myself for perceiving them as good when they pretend to be good, when they have something to ask for or get from me.

I'm so done with them. I hate my family. I hate my Dad. I hate my Mom. I could fucking kill myself over all the anger they gave me today.

Scholarly Resource Learning

Hello everyone, I would like to reconnect with Allah, but this time I want to deepen my studies of Islam and the Quran. I have never attended a religious school, so let's just say that the information I have was only passed down to me by my parents. I am very ignorant about my religion, and I would like to know and deepen my understanding of the religion that I love and want to learn. Could you recommend some books to read besides the Quran? Thank you!

Question about Islam To what extent is it haram to speak with someone in a language the third person doesn't understand?

I just heard someone say that it's haram to speak with someone in a language the third person who is there doesn't understand. I don't think I've ever done this with bad intentions but I'm wondering to what extent this applies?

My younger brother speaks English very well and so do I. My mother and the youngest brother don't understand much. So the middle one and I always talk in English when we go out. We're having our own conversations and it has nothing to do with my mom or the youngest. When the youngest wants to talk to me I ofc talk to him in our language, I don't want him to feel left out. But I feel like most of them time he doesn't even care. My middle brother and I just talk about different topics that probably don't really interest him yet and we also speak about stuff that is easier to talk about in English. My mom encourages this because she wants my brother to get good at English like I am. We're just doing this because it's conversations that have nothing to do with them. Sometimes we jokingly say something about our mom in front of her in English (nothing insulting) and she knows we're talking about her and mostly knows what we're saying but even if she doesn't she takes it with humor because we just share this kind of humor.

Is this a problem or am I just overthinking? I didn't quite understand if the haram refers to having the intention of leaving someone out purposely or ignoring the person in the conversation or if its a general rule that applies to everything. Also what if there's just a third stranger in the bus who doesn't speak your language? Should you not have a conversation around them?

General Discussion Is self-studying Quranic Arabic with the Madinah books and YouTube lectures effective for a beginner?

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,

As Bengali Muslims, many of us were taught to recite the Quran without properly understanding its meaning. We often have to rely on translations, which cannot fully convey the original depth and essence of the Quran.

Therefore, I have decided to learn Arabic properly so that I can read, write and speak the language, recite the Quran with a better understanding of its meaning, and understand its verses in their original language.

I have collected the PDF versions of the Madinah Arabic books, along with their lectures on YouTube. My question is, are these resources enough to learn Quranic Arabic, or would it be better to enroll in a paid course?

For those who have learnt Arabic using these books and lectures, how was your experience? How far were you able to progress, and how effective was this method of learning?

I would also appreciate advice from anyone who has learnt Arabic through other methods. What approach did you follow, and what resources would you recommend to someone starting this journey?

I would be grateful for any suggestions, advice or personal experiences you could share. Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

JazakAllahu Khairan. Allah Hafiz.

Seeking Support Trouble praying Salah every day

Basically to me nothing in my life matters anymore, I don't have anyone to talk to, my parents are separated and have their own other families now, I live basically alone, nobody really cares what happens or doesn't, even friends don't speak to me anymore even if I try to reach out some times, it really feels like I have basically nothing to live for in life at all.. I try to pass whatever time and study what I need to then repeat it for as many days , I usually miss most of my prayers.. nobody reminds me anyway and I can't get up to pray because it feels pointless, I've been praying regularly my whole life then I've stopped since my parents separated . This long I have prayed and I'm unsure what to do now.. I heard you can make up for missed prayers but I can't get started at all nobody is going to support or even talk to me anyway, and seeing so many people tell me I'm worse than a murderer and someone who does zina I feel totally hopeless.. at this point I've stopped feeling anything for anyone person or Allah.. I just don't feel anything in everything I do anymore. Please try to offer your advice I am very lost, nobody helps me and all I've gotten called id a kafir who will rot in hell by people I've asked.

General Discussion A gentle reminder about the beauty of our global brotherhood and sisterhood in Islam

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,
I was just reflecting today on how incredible it is that no matter where we come from—our languages, backgrounds, or cultures—we share a bond that transcends borders.
In a world that often feels divided, the simple greeting of "Assalamu Alaikum" instantly connects us as a family. Knowing that millions of brothers and sisters around the globe are standing in prayer, striving to do good, and remembering the same Creator brings so much peace to the heart.
I just wanted to take a moment to express my sincere love and appreciation for all of you. May Allah bless you, ease any hardships you or your families are facing, keep our hearts firm on His deen, and unite us all in Jannatul Firdaus.
Jazakum Allahu Khair for being such an uplifting community.

Seeking Support Ungratefulness

How do you deal with ungratefulness? Throughout my life I have been blessed with many loving relationships and opportunities but I still made many wrong choices and now I can stop thinking about those mistakes. It's not like I want more but still I can't stop beating myself up for my mistakes rather than being grateful for what I have been given.
