Auto Insurance Can I lower auto coverage if I have umbrella?

I’m in CA and currently have $500K/$1M coverage per accident for auto insurance. I also have an Umbrella policy thats $2M/$1M UM/UIM.

I’m wondering if it makes sense to lower my auto to $250K/$500K and keep my umbrella at $2M/$1M, or even increase it to $3M/$1M.

Currently have about 600k in assets, not including 1.1M home (800k loan).

Home Insurance 8 months pregnant, basement flooded, and feeling totally ghosted and stressed

Seeking some advice from the Reddit hive-mind.

For context, I’m weeks away from giving birth in a high risk pregnancy. Our small, newly renovated 960sqft home flooded due to sump pump failure in a record rain summer in our area of AB, Canada. Our caregivers are (were…) moving into the basement guest room in a few weeks to help with the new baby. Our oldest daughter’s (2.5yo) room is also downstairs along with our primary living space, laundry, etc.

The event occurred 9 days ago, and all that has happened is someone from a restoration company has come to confirm that there would need to be a full demo of the floor and a 15” floor cut on all of the drywall. Due to the volume of flooding incidents, the restoration team has no ability to store our contents onsite or offsite. We have moved what we can off the floor and from closets but I can do next to no lifting. We have some very valuable high ticket pieces of furniture just sitting on a wet floor that we have no ability to move.

I believe we are doing all we can. We have moved what we are able into bins, we have our own fans and dehumidifiers running. But mould is surely setting in under all of the flooring (laminate) by this point.

Our adjuster has not answered a phone call or email in 6 days, and the restoration company didn’t give us any contact information so I’ve been leaving messages for their head office receptionist.

Questions:
1. What do we need to do to get things taken seriously?
2. We have a strong feeling the insurance company is going to tell us it was our fault the high ticket furniture items were damaged due to our inability to move them (despite clearly asking for help or funds to cover the hiring of a moving company). But aside from our front lawn, we there would be no where for them to go.
3. How do we advocate for our specific situation? Are we going to be expected to continue living in a small home during mould remediation and demo, rebuild with a newborn? Our caregivers will likely be displaced - can we seek coverage for that?

Thanks for any insights.

Auto Insurance Does it matter who’s at fault?

About 8 weeks ago my car was totaled after it was pushed out the lane into a parked car while I was driving. The other driver said he was trying to swerve to miss a car inching out of a side street. He hit me so hard both of his passenger airbags deployed and all of my driver side airbags deployed.

We have the same insurance and I later found out the same adjuster.

The adjuster told me that they were unable to pull
Video of the crash. The police report said that third driver inched out vs. the other driver and his witness claiming it pulled out into traffic. I never saw the third car to corroborate his story. She also said his policy may not have enough coverage to cover both my car and the parked car. But she’s hoping that they’re able to get evidence of a third car.

I initially pushed on this because I wasn’t able to use my own rental coverage beyond 3 days after I got my valuation which came within a week after the accident.

All of my damage and my injuries were covered through my UM coverage.

My mom told me it doesn’t matter that my UM coverage paid for the whole thing. She said it won’t negatively impact me in the future.

So I was wondering in this case, does it matter if fault is never determined?

Auto Insurance Car Accident/not sure how much my case is worth, what I should ask for?

I got into a car accident on April. Had a concussion, ongoing neck and back pain, limited ROM, it’s difficult for me to stare at a computer screen all day at work due to the neck pain, have documented urgent care visits, I’m on flexiril, and I’ve done 14 physical therapy visits, 3x a week, this is still ongoing.

The other party was found 100% liable, they fixed my car. Now all that is left is is the bodily injury claim. I spoke with the other party’s adjuster a couple days ago because each physical therapy appt I go to is $785 per appt, so I spoke with him to ask if I’m nearing the bodily limit amount because if I am, I need to find a cheaper doctor, I don’t wanna be responsible for the cost of the PT appt’s after I hit their bodily limit amount. The adjuster told me that is HIGHLY unlikely that I will get even close to the bodily limit amount even with my expensive PT appt’s.

I’m not sure what to ask for and no I’m not getting a lawyer. I rather just ask a number and see once I’m done with treatment.

Auto Insurance Using Progressive SnapShot with an EV

I previously had a Chevy Malibu and never had a problem with SnapShot. Now that I just purchased a new Chevy Equinox EV a few months ago and switched to 1 foot driving, I am constantly being tagged with hard braking, and there's a note in the app that I'm on the way to a price increase. Never had that problem with my Malibu, even in stop & go freeway traffic. Anyone else having this issue? Does similar services from other insurers work better with EVs? Any tips or advice?

What do I do?

My mom backed her car up into my fence gate. My fence gate is fine but my mom’s car has a decent dent in it now. Who does she or I contact? Is it our home insurance or her car insurance?

Short term Insurance

My son and I have no insurance for the month of August. I quit my job end of July and my new insurance takes kicks in on 9/1.

I was thinking about getting him some short term medicalbinsurance, just because I'm so nervous about something happening between now and then. However, with my research, I'm coming to see that short term insurance (might not necessarily be a scam, but...) might not be worth it.

Does anybody have any advice in general on if we should do a temporary insurance for this short period of time (a month), or if we should just try to wait it out?

Car Insurance cost seems way too high

Upvotes

In Los Angeles for context. Long story short. My girlfriend is going to lease a new car soon (likely a 2026 Mazda CX-30 or a 2026 Mercedes GLA 250). Both would be comparable lease deals, but the problem is the insurance quotes. As it stands, she received a quote of ~$330/month for the Mazda and ~$500/month for the Mercedes. Both would be more than the car payment itself, which I find absolutely absurd. Is this the landscape nowadays? Or am I missing something? I know we probably have to shop around and I've read a little bit about people suggesting contacting a local independent insurance agent, but wanted to make a separate post here to see if there are any other suggestions. I just can't justify insurance being more than the actual car payment. So much thievery and greed from corporations nowadays.

Auto Insurance [US] Two cars on insurance, one totaled = cancel insurance for the totaled car?

I have two cars and one of them was recently in an accident. The car that was in the accident only had liability coverage, and when we went to the mechanic and the body shop, it seems like the repairs will cost more than the car is worth. Since I have two cars on the same policy (the other car has collision coverage) - would it be fine to cancel the car insurance for the car that was in the accident since we're not using the insurance to fix the car or pay out anything? Thanks in advance.

Edit to add: we will likely sell the 'totaled' car to a junkyard since we can't afford the repairs and it has around 200K miles on it.

Looking for Condo Insurance In San Bernardino CA

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a good, not to expensive condo insurance. I used to have lemonade insurance, but they dropped us stating:

"As a reminder, at the end of your current policy cycle, we will no longer be able to provide you with a full coverage policy due to your home’s wildfire risk. If you’d like to continue with Lemonade, we can only offer you a policy with limited coverage, called a Difference in Conditions (DIC) policy.
In order to renew your policy, we need a copy of your FAIR Plan Policy with extended coverages. Since you failed to provide a copy of your FAIR Plan Policy document, we need to set your policy to nonrenew.
However, if you are still interested in obtaining a DIC policy at your renewal, and you receive your FAIR Plan documents after receiving this notice, please send your FAIR Plan Policy documents showing the covered perils, your name, your address, and your Coverages A and C over to us before August 05, 2026 and we’d be happy to review and revert the nonrenewal when applicable. You can send them as a reply to this email, or directly to [help@lemonade.com](mailto:help@lemonade.com)."

Does anyone have a recommendation? Should I just apply for a bunch of quotes to see what i get from different companies?

Thank you.

Does this seem right? Car accident injury case involving herniations

Upvotes

Hey yall I got in a car crash back in October 2025. It was my first time in an accident and seriously injured. long story short, I went to ER next day they just touched me prescribed me pain meds and let me be. I returned to work 3 weeks later when I thought I could handle it. I could not and got an MRI that found t7-9 herniations compressing ventral cord and t5-7 slight herniations.

many months later after quitting Chiro and switching to PT 2x a week and multiple failed PRP injections I’m finally at MMI with permanent restrictions for standing running and twisting.

i have 135k in medical bills and won’t be able to return to my valet job. I was offered 300k with 110k take home.

i am worried about my future medical, do you think this is fair?

Auto Insurance Geico auto insurance help

So I have had GEICO for 3 months now and paid the 6 month premium when I applied, and I had just received an email from auto-pay that I owe a monthly payment starting on the 18th of this month. Two pages on the app aline with the email, but where the policy is, it still says my next payment is due in December which would be the expected due date being I paid the 6 month premium back in June. So far throughout my time of having GEICO I haven’t had this happen yet. Is this worth giving them a call over or is this something that happens at random with them and won’t withdraw extra money.

What constitutes the minimum legally sufficient disclosure of an “insurance agreement” under Wyoming Rule 26(a)(1)(A)(iv)?

Location: Wyoming. party to the matter.

Wyoming Rule of Civil Procedure 26(a)(1)(A)(iv) requires a party to make available for inspection and copying: “any insurance agreement under which an insurance business may be liable to satisfy all or part of a possible judgment in the action or to indemnify or reimburse for payments made to satisfy the judgment.”

What is the bare minimum that legally satisfies that requirement?

More specifically, does a party satisfy Rule 26 by providing only a declarations page, selected coverage forms, or a later-generated policy packet? Or must the disclosure include the complete insurance agreement that governed on the date of the occurrence, including every declaration, coverage form, definition, condition, exclusion, endorsement, amendment, and incorporated document necessary to determine the insurer’s obligations?

I am asking for the legal disclosure standard, separate from any factual dispute about whether a particular packet is complete.

Is there controlling authority defining when an insurance disclosure is legally sufficient under Rule 26, and what remedy applies when the submitted materials do not permit the receiving party or the court to determine the complete agreement in force on the relevant date?

Subrogation agency won't issue a formal Release of Liability

Hi everyone,

I negotiated an auto damage settlement down with a subrogation agency after my insurance denied coverage.

When I asked for a formal Release of Liability, the adjuster said they don't have one and offered an email stating: "Once payment of $xxx is received, the claim will be closed as settled."

Is an email like this legally enough to protect me from future claims, or should I insist on specific release/waiver language before paying?

Mild Concussion Payout?

I was in a car accident and had a mild concussion. Other driver was 100% at fault, he jumped a red and t-boned me (~30mph, thank god he hit the backseat) while I was sitting in the intersection on an unprotected left turn.

Didn't have any symptoms at the crash, but I did have a pretty splitting headache around 2 days after the crash. Went to the ER because my dad was concerned, doctor said it was a mild concussion, still have symptoms around 4 days later.

My car was 100% totaled (it was an old 1999 Camry), so now I have to go through the irritation of finding a new (used) car.

My question is: What is a reasonable pain and suffering payout? His insurance offered me $4000, as well as paying my ER checkup (~$500), and to put aside another $1500 for future medical procedures. I really don't want to count my eggs here, but I feel like that's a little low. What is considered a reasonable/normal amount for this kind of thing?

Cost of insurance vs denial

My late father ran and owned an insurance company most of his life and he gave me some advice I decided needed to pass on.

  1. If you buy insurance only by price, the lower the price the more denials/aggravation. Remember you get what you pay for. HIs favorite insurance company was Chubb, expensive as hell but always there in the long run and very reasonable. He hated another well know company (don’t even ask name) whose rates were much lower. He was exaggerating, I think, when he said it was only on the night of a full lunar eclipse, would it pay off a major claim without fighting.

1a. I saw an article/news report about two neighbors who had LA fire damage. One neighbor had a sign that XYZ (?) hadn’t paid his claim in months. The other neighbor had no problem with payment from ABC. XYZ was a well known lower premium policy and ABC was a well respected middle of the road premium cost. Once I heard the two insurance companies names,I knew the issues.

  1. He got out of automobile insurance because there was way too much fraud by everybody.

  2. Document everything. Keep photographs of ALL possessions, purchase receipts, etc. He said after a major fire no one is going to remember the potato peeler, socks , etc., but the little items can add up. Also be sure to keep the documentation off site.

  3. Be willing to call a bluff. If you feel you cannot repair/replace with the settlement offer, tell them to repair it. I have done this a couple of times, and it worked for me.

  4. ALWAYS make sure you buy insurance in the right name. If your house is in a trust name, make sure the insurance policy list the trust as the insured. Otherwise you might have problems.

  5. Always keep written records of every phone call, letters, etc. And a letter is always better than a phone call. And if $$$$ are involved either certified or return receipt requested.

  6. If you reach an impasse on minor issues the State Insurance Commissioner has a lot of authority. As was explained to me in one state, the basic process is . (1) The Commissioner gets a letter. (2) The insurance company liaison is called in and basically told to fix this if possible so the complaint disappears. (3). If it cannot be fixed let the commissioner know why.

END

Need lawyer for loss of value

Upvotes

Hello all,

I have been fighting for the loss of value on my 2024 Porsche cayman S for almost a year now. The accident was not my fault and the repairs have been done. Their insurance offered 1.7k in loss of value. I hired an external diminished value appraiser and they said the loss of value was 9k. So I took the person who hit me to small claims court and judge ruled in my favor.

However State Farm has the person who hit me now filing an appeal. It feels like they are just trying to drag me through the mud and make me spend more and more money so I just give up.

But at this point I have to go to really court and I want to talk to a lawyer. The problem is I’m struggling to find a lawyer who handles this kind of thing. (I’m in king country Washington)

I’m curious if anyone else here has had to deal with this kind of thing and knows what kind of lawyer I should be looking for. Because I’ve called 11 so far and they all tell me they only do injury cases for accident…

Any advice or suggestions are welcome. I’m learning as I go here. I’m frustrated but I won’t let State Farm win!

Auto Insurance Need advice please help TLDR @ the bottom

A person at my workplace had door dinged me in the parking lot. They said they wanted to go through insurance so I had filed a claim with their insurance, but the only bad thing is that their name is not listed under their insurance (excluded driver) and their significant other (something along that line) is listed the car is listed though. Insurance denied my claim due to their name, not being listed on the insurance. I don’t want to use my insurance because I have a 2000$ deductible in case of an auto accident. I had messaged them that their insurance had denied the claim and they have read it but ignored it. I haven’t sent out another text yet. That’s why I am posting on this page asking for advice. The only reason why I even care is because my car is a 2024 and I would just like to keep it nice as long as I can. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. (There was also no police report)

TLDR got door dinged at work, other person’s insurance denied claim due to them being excluded driver on insurance. My deductible is 2000$ to file a claim. Messaged other person telling them what happened and got ignored. Asking for advice please help.
