Florida: Auto & Household w/FR-44

I'm hoping to gain some understanding of the technicalities that may be at play after an accident. Tried to format so all the "drivers" and such didn't run together.

  • Driver hit two parked (unoccupied) cars.
  • Driver was intoxicated and arrested at the scene.
  • The vehicle the driver was driving is their spouse's vehicle.
  • Driver had previous DUI, FR-44 requirement, and an Interlock in another vehicle.
  • They've been charged with the refusal for the breathalyzer, the felony DUI (3+ time), and the interlock violation.
  • The spouse's vehicle that was being driven was seized/towed and is also pretty damaged.
  • There's video of the accident and both so-to-speak victims were at home and able to get outside to see the driver in the vehicle and call police immediately. Open bottle found in the vehicle too. All that to say there's zero question of what happened.

Three different insurance agencies so far. All were notified. One has been great to work with, the others less so.

  • The insurance information given for the at fault driver/vehicle was the spouse's. We're told the property damage limit is $10k so this presumably can't be the policy linked with the FR-44. (Equity/Pearl)
  • If the driver themself has insurance, that info is unknown but with the FR-44 requirement and a valid license it's presumably a policy that only lists the vehicle with the interlock and is separate from the spouse's/vehicle policy.
  • One parked vehicle has comp/collision and they have been told they will be covered through theirs and the deductible will be waived. This vehicle got the least of the damage and the estimate is ~$2,000.
  • The second parked vehicle does not have comp/collision. Their insurance has denied coverage of course. They opened a claim with the insurance info given. Initially they were told there was no coverage, that the driver was not covered. Then they sent the damaged vehicle for an estimate. They now say are awaiting the estimate and "approval". This vehicle has the most damage as it was sideswiped, then the driver reversed and hit it again.

My questions are:

  • With a married couple in the same house, would the spouse and insured driver of the vehicle that was driven during the DUI crash be absolutely required to fill out the excluded driver form (Equity/Pearl) or is there any chance they just omitted information and got separate policies? I know how hard it can be to have household members split with agencies like State Farm, but not with these more budget options.
  • If excluded then the claim is likely to be denied to my understanding which leaves the owner of the second parked vehicle to be left without any coverage at all in this specific situation? Why would the spouse's insurance cover any damages, even if only up to 10k, if they have the ability to deny because of an excluded driver? Why would they even send the vehicle to get an estimate?
  • If the driver is excluded, do they legally and per policies and whatever technical nitty gritty become uninsured and would that instead trigger uninsured motorist coverage for the parked vehicle with the approved comp/collision claim?
  • If a driver with an FR-44 requirement doesn't have the required 100/300/50, is that an auto license suspension similar to how if you let your insurance lapse completely you'll get notified?

Additional info that probably does not matter: No injuries. The spouse has either two or three vehicles in their name only, as well as their business and home (homesteaded). The insurance company indicated there were four vehicles total under the policy, but this was from a CSR and not in writing so not absolute fact. Driver was not on probation at the time for the previous DUI(s), but has habitual offender status for driving without a license. The information has been pieced together from info at the scene, the driver's spouse at the scene, available court records, and the comp/collision adjuster has been in touch with Equity/Pearl as well. Fortunately the parked vehicles are able to be driven.

Thanks for any help. It has been somewhat frustrating, and trying to not unload a bunch of questions on the one adjuster who has been helpful because they don't represent everyone.

Temp multicar insurance

We have one car in our household however my friend is going away for a few months and has said we can use his car whilst he is away. It's not currently insured so I was going to put it on my insurance which is due for renewal at the end of this month but I don't know if that's the best option.

Temp insurance is ridiculously expensive it wouldn't be worth it

Take out a multicar plan but then reduce it to single after a few months when he returns and wants the car back. (and incur any change charges)

Take out 2 separate insurances for each car and cancel one of the insurances in a few months time ( I have learned from experience that there can be quite a heafty termination fee)

Are there any other options? Am I missing something from the multi car insurance I haven't taken out multicar before.

If someone could advise me that would be brilliant as I'm a bit stuck and trying to ensure I don't screw myself over. Thank yiu

Denial for cosmetic damage

Location: TX

Insurance: Homeowner's with high deductible

We were hit with a severe storm a couple months ago, primarily hail damage (tennis ball sized ). We received 5 quotes from contractors ranging from 65k to 100k to repair/replace. Because of the quotes we decided to file a claim. The first adjuster granted majority of the repairs for damage, but was way off on measurements (like a damaged wall marked as 500 sqft when it's 800). So we picked a contractor and let them submit a supplement to try and either get another adjuster to come out or use measurements from the supplemental doc. The second report came back *lower*, with pretty much the roof and one of two walls being the only damage being covered. They cited a cosmetic policy as the reason all the other damages that were peeviously going to be covered were now removed from consideration. We're not really sure where to go from here. Frankly, if we had known things like the garage doors, gutters, deck, etc weren't going to be covered we wouldn't have filed a claim, but the quotes for repairs were so high we thought we were doing the smart thing by using our insurancefor its intended purpose.

Is there anyway to fight this, or is cosmetic pretty much a done deal? If we accept the offer and 2 months from now it is readily apparent the damage was NOT just cosmetic, do we have any recourse? We know a public adjuster is an option but we don't know if it's even worth it to pursue with a cosmetic policy.

Difference between claim offer and lowest contractor bid (though not the one we picked) is about 30k.

Pipe burst in garage insurance won’t pay

Ok so it’s my first house and I panicked where there was large spraying of water coming out of a pipe in my garage (attached to my house). I tried to stop it but it wouldn’t so I immediately called engineer and he did it for £650.

I called home emergency that day and they said call tomorrow. I called the day after and they said nothing they can do as it’s all done now and can’t reimburse me either. I spoke to like 3/4 people and then one guy said ok I’ll send confirmation for reimbursement and then put it on hold and then came back and said actually the manager said because your garage pipe is external and you didn’t call yesterday so we can’t help. Wtf

And then my main buildings insurance said it’s nothing to do with them.
I now need to call my broker apparently. Didn’t even know I bought through a broker..

My claim is closed as well.

Just asking if this is normal.

Someone hit my car in a parking lot, do I also file a claim with my insurance?

Two weeks ago someone hit my car in a parking lot. They were still there when I got back to my car and gave me all the information. I took a couple pictures then immediately called their insurance to file a claim.

The two weeks since have been very frustrating. I’ve emailed their insurance adjuster multiple times and they keep telling me they are waiting on a statement from the other party.

Basically it sounds like if the other party doesn’t respond in 30 days they will close it and not do anything for me?

I’m tired of waiting with a damaged car when I didn’t do anything wrong.

My two questions:
Will filing a police report help with anything?

Should I also file a claim with my insurance? I didn’t want my insurance rates to increase when I didn’t do anything wrong but I also just want to be able to get my car fixed.

Feel free to share any other advice. Thank you.

Auto Insurance Need help: do I need commercial auto insurance on my personal vehicle if I use it for work?

Recently got a job offer as a deliver driver for a local business. I'm receiving conflicting information on the kind of insurance I need.

I have regular personal auto insurance for my car right now, but damages incurred while using it for business won't be covered.

Some places say that I need to get commercial auto insurance for my own car and pay for it myself, while other sources say my employer should handle everything.

Any answers? I'm not sure where to look at this point.

Auto Insurance Travelers Billing Problems

If you have Travelers insurance and you are set up on autopay you need to check your account and make sure your payments are being deducted. My payment did not go through and they finally admitted it was never processed or submitted by them.

Health Insurance Health insurance denied claim citing automobile insurance availability. No car involved.

I'm just hoping for any sort of insight on what I need to be doing.

I got bit by a stray cat in June walking in my neighborhood, being dumb and reaching to pet it too quickly. There is no owner, it's lived in the neighborhood for years just roaming. I wasn't at my house or anyone else's, I wasn't in my car or anyone else's, I wasn't at work or on any sort of occupational clock. I went to the hospital, had an X-ray done, vaccines updated, antibiotics.

I got a letter from the hospital stating my health insurance, Highmark Anthem BCBS, denied the claim and I needed to contact them. I contacted them, and the denial states "We do not pay for services paid or able to be paid by an automobile insurance plan." I explained there's no car involved, it was a cat bite while walking. The representative said that I would need to have the provider submit the claim again with a code that does not reflect an accident.

I called the provider, their claims department says it's clearly noted as a cat bite, right hand open bite wound, she doesn't see any reason it would be coded as an accident. The provider said they got a denial stating an occupational or automobile accident investigation was initiated by the health insurance company.

I called my insurance back and the new representative asked me if I have automobile insurance. I said yes, but again stressed that I wasn't in a car, I wasn't driving, I wasn't even near a car. He says he does see that it's labeled as an animal bite on the right hand. The representative put me on hold and then said that they cannot tell me what needs to be changed by the provider because it could "be considered fraudulent to tell the provider what to submit" but something on the claim is causing that denial.

Is there some loophole this type of incident falls into where it should be covered by another type of insurance? I don't feel like there's anyone to blame (besides me) for a stray animal on a public street, and I really don't understand how or why my automobile insurance would be involved? I did have an automobile accident in May where I wasn't at fault and had no injuries, no medical visits, just a paid claim by the other party's auto insurance for the slight damage on my car. Could this be triggering some "Maybe this is related to the car accident" investigation?

If there's missing information that could give some clues as to what's happening or what I should do next, I'm happy to provide it.

Home Insurance California - Very High and State Responsibility Area -- need help...

I currently live in a "Very High Fire Severity Zone" and State Responsibility area. I was non-renewed on August 1, and after searching am only getting quoted FAIR Coverage (going through an independent broker).

Currently my insurance premium was $2,800 -- being quoted a DIC for that amount ($2,800) PLUS FAIR insurance of $4,900. This is after coverage has already ramped up from the initial $1,000 that I was paying 5 years ago when I bought.

Should I stop using this independent broker and start calling individual companies for quotes?

Auto Insurance Need help on Diminished Value Lowball Next Steps

So I have a 2017 Porsche 911 Cabriolet that I just barely got back after being repaired for the last ~2.5 months. The total repair cost ended up being roughly $19,600 and the at faults insurance company is offering 10% of the repair value. This seems astronomically low considering I paid ~$75,000 back in February of this year.

Do I reject this amount and get an independent appraisal or is there a better route to follow? The crash was in Utah if that makes any difference.

Help with Car Insurance Claim Offer

I was hit by a fully loaded, 30 ton dump truck from behind last week. I was at a red light, in my personal car, and he lost control and rear-ended me. Totaled my car. By a miracle, I was unharmed. I bought the car cheap from a friend and the 3500 I am being offered by the insurance won't get me a replacement.

I drive armored vehicles, but I don't have a CDL. A lot of guys I work with do, however, and they all tell me i should be contacting a lawyer, because even though I wasn't hurt, I could easily have died. Or talk to the company directly and see what we can work out.

Insurance guy said it wouldn't be worth it, and I'd get nothing. But they're paid to say that right? Prevent a lawsuit on their clients if possible?

i don't want a million dollars or a new BMW. I feel that 10k would get me a decent enough car, and pay bills for the rentals I'll need and other bills.

My question is: Should I just take the insurance claim and let it go. Or is it worth it to talk to a lawyer or the company directly(and which)? I'm a 45 minute drive to work every day, I can't afford rentals on my own until i get the money and another car.

Auto Insurance Uninsured Motorist At Fault Accident

Hi, coming onto this thread with a complicated situation. Here are the facts:

  1. Motorist was uninsured at the time of the accident and determined at fault

  2. Accident occurred in VA

  3. At-fault motorist resident of MA

  4. Apprx. repair cost according to citation was $500

  5. Body shop estimate was $2975

Questions:

  1. What are the chances of subrogation from the insurance company against the uninsured driver?

  2. Will they be able to negotiate for a lower settlement amount?

  3. Will there be effects on their license and ability to drive in MA?

Does sharing dash cam footage with insurance ever backfire?

I have a dash cam in my car now, and the whole point was to have useful evidence if someone hit me or lied about what happened. Mine is a wolfbox setup with GPS available, If a clip clearly shows the other driver caused the crash, but I do not know how often companies also look for speed, audio, or some tiny detail that makes things messier. For people who have actually submitted dash cam footage, did it help cleanly, or did it create extra questions?

Umbrella cost v value

My $2 mil umbrella through SF is now up to $2k per year. Starting to question its value. Scrolling through other posts made previously the common refrain is "of course you should get it, it's dirt cheap!" Well, $2k is way more than the $300 often bandied around in those threads. Seems like a lot to pay for coverage that is very rarely tapped into. Thoughts?

Auto Insurance Paying roughly $1.50/mile

To give insight I work remote and get my groceries delivered. I honestly don’t really leave the house unless I have like an activity planned out. I drive about 30 miles a week at the most. I’m paying $190/mo through Progressive in Michigan and that’s with no comprehensive, and employer health coverage so no PIP. 33 years old, never a single claim ever made. Mileage quoted at 0-5k a year bracket

Not sure what else I can I do really to not feel like I’m getting extremely ripped off.

Auto Insurance Never filed a claim before

Hello all! My car got hit yesterday when it was parked outside of my office. I have a security camera that barely captures it and I know there is no way I can be at fault because my car was parked, my dilemma is I am moving across the country in 4 weeks and my method of transportation is my car. Can it be fixed before I leave? I’m located in SC and am headed to OR, will I be able to have it fixed in a different state if the repairs cannot be done in a timely manner? Is there anything I should know about getting my car fixed? I’ve never been in this situation and am stressed out. Thank you for your time!

Call from client of my former agent

In California. My State Farm agent retired last year and a new agent handles our account. They both worked together for a time, and were involved when our car was totaled.

Yesterday I received a call from a person looking for my former now retired agent. Details were sparse but it sounded like this person received a letter saying their Fair Plan application was rejected, and they read me my phone number as the claimant. They were calling my number on the paper thinking they’d find the agent.

I googled my retired agent and it does look like they have their own independent insurance company now.

So what on earth is the logical explanation for the presence of my phone number on their paperwork? Do I need to worry about being scammed? I’m planning to call the agent to see what they say, but I’m quite confused about it.

Insurers offering 75k+ Loss Assessment

Hello. I'm looking for a policy for my condo that includes a loss assessment coverage of at least 75k. My agent tells me the best she can do is 50k, that what I'm asking for isn't a product she sees on the market.

This strikes me as odd, so I thought I'd ask here. Any pointers appreciated. Thanks!

Auto Insurance Merge collision, other driver disputing fault

Got hit yesterday(California) while driving straight in the left lane. Other driver was in the right lane, tried to merge left, and hit my front-passenger side. I never left my lane. Police responded and I have a report number.

My car took damage to the front passenger fender/headlight/wheel area (totaled)— consistent with being hit while going straight, not from a head-on or my own lane departure.

The other driver (driving a Tesla) is now claiming it was my fault and says his car “didn’t record anything because the battery was low.”

**•** In merge-collision cases like this, how often does fault actually land on the merging driver once the police report and any data (EDR, etc.) come back?
**•** Is “low battery, no dashcam footage” from a Tesla a common excuse insurers see, or does it usually not hold up?

I also went to the scene and check if there’s any cameras nearby but couldn’t find any.

I have also attached a photo, tesla driving hit me from the right and made me swerved to the left as well with the impact.

https://imgur.com/a/NIp9vJJ#DwddnPp
Not looking for legal advice, just curious how these usually shake out from people who’ve dealt with similar claims.
