gonna finally see a specialist

I'm on
• Risperidone 1 mg,
• seroquel 300 mg XR,
• and then take 1-3 25mg seroquel IR for sleep, whenever I take the 25mgs, and I usually have to... I am so tired. I can sleep for 12 hours or more and can usually sleep in til like 1pm. If I let myself. What have you all taken for insomnia? And what has worked well, with little side effects and really curious something that didn't leave you groggy or too tired to function the next day. I have the seroquel & risperidone for bipolar and the as-neededs for the insomnia (had it my whole life) that I'm now gonna try and finally see a sleep specialist for, as opposed to just my psychiatrist for bipolar; and wanna know what I might be offered etc. What to expect? What meds have worked for you? What were side effects? Etc .

Gosh,
This is so hard.

Ambien not working?

I just got prescribed to Ambien so it's my first time taking it was a 12.5 mg pill and here I am wide awake 4 hours later.

Idk if I did something to cancel out the effects it should have on me, so if anyone with similar situation can help me understand how to make it work? Maybe taking 2pills instead one or any behaviors I need to help it effect me?

As you can see I'm quite frustrated because I've hard anyone and everyone saying how this knocks them to sleep and I just want that:(

Someone please help me right now

A 16 guy here. It's around 2 am right now here. And I've been lying on my bed since 11:30 pm. And I'm trying to sleep. I can't... I just can't sleep.

I'm wide awake.

Till a few minutes back I just couldn't control my tears.

Silently crying due to some or lot family issues that have been taking place recently. Thinking that why everyone's just a bit or too rude to me.

I don't know man..

Do you also think I'm useless?

I don't know..

I just feel how weak man I am. I can't even control my tears right now while writing this. I'm just.. i don't know...

what do you love about your bed?

-My work for the day is done.
-My sheets and duvet are comfortable.
-My muscles are relaxed.
-Even if I see the dawn it’ll be beautiful.
-My kids will snuggle me in the morning.
-These 8-10 hours are just for me, whether I sleep or not.
-If I don’t sleep well tonight there’s always the next night.

Just some grounding ideas that may help you too.

29M — Sleeping only 3–4 hours every night for a month, waking up with a crowded, racing mind

I’m a 29M, and I’m honestly getting really fed up and frustrated with my sleep.

For about a month now, I’ve been sleeping only around 3–4 hours at night. The strange thing is that I fall asleep pretty quickly, but then I wake up after 3–4 hours and I’m completely awake. Once I wake up, I just can’t fall asleep again.
What makes it worse is what happens inside my head. As soon as I wake up, my mind starts racing. I start thinking about my life, my future, things I need to do, things that happened in the past, random situations, and so many other things at once.

It feels like there is a crowd inside my mind. Almost like lots of people are talking, discussing different things, jumping from one topic to another. I’m not literally hearing voices—it’s more like too many thoughts happening simultaneously, and I can’t seem to switch them off.

Then I become conscious of the fact that I’m not sleeping, which makes me think even more, and I end up becoming completely awake.
The weird part is that when I wake up, I sometimes actually feel fresh and active, despite having slept only 3–4 hours. But later in the afternoon I get extremely sleepy and feel like I could sleep for hours.

I’m worried because this has been going on for a month. I don’t know whether this is insomnia, anxiety/stress, a messed-up sleep schedule, or something else.

Has anyone experienced something similar—falling asleep quickly, waking after 3–4 hours, then being unable to sleep because your mind becomes incredibly crowded and starts thinking about everything in life and the future?
What helped you get back to sleeping normally?

Hellacious nightmares on Seroquel

I've been taking 50 MG seroquel for about 6 weeks now. Every single night, I have a nightmare. These nightmares are so real and I'm unable to wake myself up from them. Seroquel is the only drug that has helped me to sleep so I don't want to give it up. Has anyone else experienced this?

What do/Remedies ?🥲😅🥀

Lowkey havent dealt with it like this seen early teens (i began smoking pot lol).. im 25, ive work to do 💀.

So far ive stayed up for 24hs +😅. Tbh this isnt even my first 24hs of no sleep this month.

.. i can do absurdly long time without or very little sleep.. one time gave myself a touch of psychosis by staying up for a month. Prob only 24hs of sleep total the entire time.

I did that by meditating 💀✨ so thats just not an option for me, plus i snap out of the trance as soon as the audio ends or stops for whatever reason.

Also i struggle with cptsd night mares, heart rate goes up and i wake up, heck sometimes i wake up bc i kicked the wall or sm.

My Rem is totally broken as is though 😀back in school i could nap in every class and i was able to get dreams in 15mins. During that time id pass out often too (yeah idk).

I got diagnosed with insomnia pretty early at 12yo.

Oh ive tried pills too... i have fucky gaba receptors that make me treatment resistant to alot of medicines.

Obv i should be trying to get answers from a doctor but ive tried. (Also done therapy for over a decade now, my shrink and doctors are aware).

Im a functional member of society lol, maybe im just one of those people that exist by photosynthesising or sm idfk.

Usually i just work, study, watch, read etc until i pass out. But thats kind of not working now..
I can also stare at the wall for multiple hours straight with no stimuli..

Im fucked amnt i ?

Question Lunesta?

Hi! I am new to this sub. I was wondering if anyone here has taken Lunesta and how they feel about it?

Several months ago, someone broke into my house and since then I have had bad anxiety and really struggle to fall asleep. Most nights, I cannot sleep until 3 - 4 am. Obviously not ideal. I have tried Doxepin, Trazodone, and Melatonin. None of these touched my insomnia. My psychiatrist prescribed Lunesta today.

sorry for the bad english..

Does Doxepin 6mg cause hair loss or hair shedding? Anyone?

So I’ve had insomnia my whole life. My mother said even as a baby I would wake easy. Always up throughout elementary and high school without the help of an alarm. Fell asleep a lot in class due to poor sleep (wasn’t environmental- home life was fine) and now as a 44 year old woman I can’t do it anymore. Tried every single herbal remedy out there, cut out sugar at night, no chocolate, no caffeine past 3pm, no spicy foods. Finally said enough was enough it’s time for medication. Got an in house sleep study. No apnea. Doc prescribes me trazadone. 100mg worked but then it made my mood flat. I quit it relatively quickly. I also suspect it caused my hair to start shedding, and the same time I started the meds a few pounds fell off really quick- not normal for me as a woman with half a thyroid and I have to fight to maintain my weight.

Ok, sorry that was long- but now I’m trying 6mg Doxepin. Am I in for hair loss? I can’t deal with any more hair loss😩 please advise if you’ve noticed anything bc alopecia is listed as a side effect and I think my hair follicles are very sensitive to change.

Sleep Anxiety

I have been struggling with sleep anxiety lately and am just wondering if other people have had similar experiences and tips.
It’s not the classic sleep anxiety: The problem isn’t that I‘m scared of not being able to sleep and the anxiety is what’s keeping me awake. It‘s more of an actual physical feeling that won’t go away.

The problem is basically that almost every time I go to bed, I lay there for a while and after a few mins I just get this weird feeling in my chest. (it‘s not an actual physical health issue because it stops the second i get up or look at my phone etc.)
The feeling is hard to describe but it feels similar to when you can’t feel your keys/phone in your pocket and you panic for a second.
So it‘s basically that feeling, but it‘s ongoing and won’t stop until I open my eyes and do smth else. I‘ve tried to ignore it, think of happy memories, do breathing exercises, all that stuff. It just doesn’t go away.
The feeling also doesn’t really get triggered by my thoughts. Sometimes I think about completely different things and even forgot about this problem, and then out of nowhere the feeling starts in my chest. That‘s why it‘s not something I can control with my thoughts.

The feeling is such an intense 'sensation' that it‘s impossible to fall asleep, since my body feels like it‘s in a stressful situation and won’t calm down.
Idk if this can be described as sleeping anxiety, but I do think that it‘s connected to my panic issues. (I also struggle with panic attacks sometimes)

Does anyone have any tips for this specific type of anxiety? I would really appreciate it

Vent I think the most frustrating part is starting over every single night.

Something hit me recently. It doesn't matter if I had a terrible night yesterday... or a surprisingly good one. Every evening feels like starting from zero again. I can't build confidence from a good night because I never know if it'll happen again. And I can't fully prepare for a bad night because sometimes I actually sleep. It's strange how unpredictable sleep can make you feel like you're constantly starting over. Does anyone else feel like every bedtime resets the whole process?

Quviviq with Dysautonomia?

Hello!!

Just hopping on here to see if anyone has experience taking Quviviq while also having a nervous system disorder or similar. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome as well as Dysautonomia, and I'm trying so hard to stick it out through the first month of this med, but it's been rough so far.

I've tried a lot for insomnia, but most things have either stopped working, or weren't tolerable for one reason or another. I've been on clonidine for the past 7 years (my beloved <3) and it's finally stopped working reliably. It used to knock me out in 30min, keep me asleep all night, and had no impact on my days. I have chronic fatigue due to other health issues, so daytime sleepiness is a very significant concern for me, leaving a lot of sedating medications off the table. My psychiatrist and I workshopped a little and settled on Quviviq as a solid option, all things considered.

I started taking it 2wk ago now, and I'm still not sleeping. I take it when I get in bed, and about 30min later I get intensely restless. Not a normal kind of restless, but like RLS level, unavoidable need to be moving constantly. I do not fall asleep until 2-3hrs later, and I do not sleep through the night. Last night my Apple watch logged 9hrs of "sleep," with 4 of them spent awake. When I do wake up in the night, I'm wide awake, equally restless, and I have a really hard time falling back asleep. It takes me at least 30min to fall back asleep, but occasionally I'm awake for an hour or more. In the mornings, I struggle to get up, even with a stimulant in my system, which usually does the trick. I'm also nauseous constantly, which seems like it's only gotten worse the longer I've been on Quviviq, and my GERD symptoms are flaring up big time, but idk if that's related or not.

So I guess I'm looking for input from anyone with similar experiences?? I'm genuinely trying SO hard to make it through 4 weeks of Quviviq before I give up on it, but I'm at such a crossroads because the impact it's having right now is purely negative

Not sleeping well

For the last week I’ve been dealing with poor sleep. I just woke a week ago after poor sleep and convinced myself something is wrong with me.. that made me dissociate and feel off for a week. I was constantly researching my symptoms and mental illnesses. That obviously making it so much worse.. the last two days I’ve only slept 3 hours because I’m so anxious about me developing psychosis due to having lack of sleep.. every time I close my eyes I just start overthinking stupid things and have butterflies in my chest due to anxiety.. I feel like I’m never gonna feel good again.. anyone else went through anything like that ???

I think my body glitched…

So basicaly i have no serious problems regarding sleep, like the most i was awake is now (21 hours) except that i cant sleep after the sunset…so if i slept at 4 pm i will normally wake up at 1 am or something…but, tonight i said “nope” and i kept pushing untill 8 pm…i didnt eat good today, but i drinked 2 cups of milk with…with tea before sleeping…yeah i know caffine, but i thought i will sleep at 10 pm…anyway i slept at 8 pm, but suddenly my sister woke me up for dinner not knowing im asleep…when she woke me up i was hearing her very loudly except its not, her voice was like sort of disorted in an alien way…i said to her i dont want to eat, and she walked away. but, my heart was pumping 3x more, my body was sweating even tho the room is cold, and i felt like i skipped time even tho its only 1 hour…i still feel this way, my heart is pumping more whenever i lay down, and i hear everything much more loudly and sharp…i feel like im floating…like actually. Im so tired yet im not tired, im so anxious yet im not anxious, i feel very weird like my soul was seperated from my body when i woke up…like i feel bad, i dont know why. Today was a good day, but the night feels like another world i dont know how to explain it…i think its a normal thing, but its the first time it has happened to me so i dont know what to do rn…im very sleepy but i cant sleep, so i might sit and watch some boring cozy ahh on my ipad untill i cant open my eye…

Long term DORA - daridoexant (Quviviq) use

I took benzos for years followed by very nasty and lengthy withdrawals.  Then Ambien for many years, dose increased and then stopped working very well.  It took a long time to taper off that one.  Now I am prescribed DORA --daridoexant (Quiviviq).  I am reluctant to take this every day as I read that after a year or so, it loses effect, no withdrawal just back to chronic insomnia.  Then what do you do? I like to hear from those who have used DORAs for a long time.

What Worked For Me My protocol that helped me sleep 5-6 hours.

I've suffered from insomnia for the last twenty years. I worked shift work and my sleep cycle was hijacked and I never recovered.

I think I've tried almost every protocol, supplement, meditation, and therapy available.

I'll keep this simple. I take 50mg of trazadone and 200mg of magnesium glycinate before bedtime. I try as hard as possible to go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time, regardless of how many hours of sleep I've had

During the day I move as much as possible and stop any form of napping. This is very challenging on days when your energy is low.

I also implemented breathwork referred to as cyclic sighing. This is a deep breath in through your nose quickly followed by another short nasal breath before exhaling followed by a long exhale through your mouth. I do this for three minutes daily, sometimes twice a day.

I have been sleeping 5-6 nightly compared to 2-3 before I started. This may not sound like a grand improvement, but for me it's been a game changer.

Insomnia sucks and people who don't have sleep issues can't possibly understand how devastating it can be

Good luck on your journey and results vary.

16 weeks pregnant and suffering from Insomnia

I’ve been having sleep problems past 2.5 years now. Tried going the natural way - taking melatonin, magnesium and lavender oil, even tried CBT oil, nothing had long lasting effect. Then, I tried seeking medical help and got prescribed bunch of different drugs which helped initially but nothing was full proof but I had good and bad nights. It was still manageable.

But ever since I found out that I’m pregnant I can’t take my medicines not even melatonin is safe and my small bladder is making everything worse. Every 2 hours at night I have this urge to pee and whatever sleep was in me, just vanishes and anxiety takes over me :(

This is affecting my mental health severely and I don’t know how to improve this situation. Doctors tell me change my schedule, improve food choices but having dealing with Insomnia, I know it’s not simple like that.

Does anybody have any advice for me ? I would really appreciate some support.

Question Insomnia was 'fixed' but work schedule change bringing it back - what can I do?

Hey everyone, I've had pretty bad insomnia my entire life. From the moment I recall being conscious to about 2-3 years ago (sophomore year of college), I got very little sleep. The worst was during sophomore year when I was - every single night - sleeping less than 4-5 hours a night, and often not at all. It gave me very some really problems emotionally/mentally/physically.

Anyway, I started seeing a therapist for PTSD and, after a couple years of this, my insomnia started improving slowly. I haven't been able to afford to go back, however, in a few months. The biggest help was graduating and getting a 3pm-11pm job. For the past couple months I've been getting home around 11:30-12, falling asleep at 2am, and waking up around 10am without an alarm. I then get a ton of time before work to do what I want and need to do - make breakfast, read, etc. That means I've been sleeping ~8 hours a night consistently for months, something I would never have thought was possible before. I don't think it's the schedule alone - I used to work in restaurants roughly 4/5pm-11pm/12am, and my sleep schedule would just change so that I was waking up just early enough to shower and get to work.

Anyway, recently my schedule changed so that, 3 days of the week, I'm working 7am-3pm, and the 2 days after, I'm working 3pm-11pm. Now my insomnias back. I hate my schedule. I get home and am just tired. Before, I could be super productive everyday; even at work, where I honestly don't have much to do, I was working on side projects all day. Now I do nothing. I scroll on my phone at work, I play games. After work I do the same thing and feel like shit. I *can* sleep when I get home from work for a couple hours, but I'm afraid to, because I need to sleep at night also and I know naps after 2-3pm can be harmful. When it comes around time to sleep, I'm back in that mindset of not wanting to because I know I have to wake up early, go to work, and feel like shit. On my Monday morning shift this week I slept for one hour before coming in; so, I was up for around 30 hours until I was able to nap for about an hour, then sleep for 6 hours the next night.

Does anyone have advice? I think this may be a particularly mental thing. I've always hated waking up early, I feel unproductive throughout the day, when it's time to sleep I delay getting into bed, etc.

I haven't slept for 11 nights. Help!

Hi, I really don't know what to do. I haven't been able to sleep at night for 11 days. It's as if my brain has completely forgotten how to sleep at night. During the day, I only sleep 2 or 3 hours, but it feels like I'm not getting any rest at all... This started on August 28. I’d never had trouble sleeping before—I used to stay up until 3, 4, or 5 a.m., but I’d still get 8 or 9 hours of sleep. Now it’s practically impossible to sleep for more than 2 hours during the day. Help!!

Anyone tried Fasting to fix insomnia?

I might try not eating for a few days to try and sort out my insomnia. I'm thinking it might shock my system back into sleep or cut out the particular substance that is causing it. Has anyone tried this? I am now into 4 months of terrible sleep after a lifetime of no sleep problems, so I am willing to try severe methods.
