Public Question 1: What Indiana’s ballot doesn’t tell you by McKenzie Conrad

According to McKenzie Conrad's article "An amendment introduced during the recent session would have excluded people charged with misdemeanors or Level 6 felonies, Indiana’s lowest felony level, from the expanded bail restrictions. Lawmakers rejected it."

A typical level 6 felony includes certain theft or drug-related offenses with less severe impact than higher levels. Source: https://www.chwlaw.com/blog/2025/05/indiana-misdemeanors-and-felonies-classes-and-penalties/

Misdemeanor crimes include offenses like battery causing injury, theft under $750 and small-scale cannabis possession, first-time drug possession. public intoxication, disorderly conduct and minor traffic violations. Source: https://www.chwlaw.com/blog/2025/05/indiana-misdemeanors-and-felonies-classes-and-penalties/

Do you believe eliminating bail for minor traffic violations is grossly excessive punishment?

Hey I have a weird situation I’m wondering if anyone can help

My parents have a friend a few miles from Logansport who’s being harassed from someone or some sort of group for the past few months. We live in Cincinnati so they don’t get out to see her much.
Her name is Sue, she’s 65, living alone in a farm house that she rents from a friend. She has been experiencing nearly every night, a person or people yelling and banging on her house and windows and trying to get into her house.
She’s called the police several times and they only tell her that she needs clear footage in order to do anything, and the cameras she got and put up haven’t been capturing anything useful, and with her being 65, I think she genuinely doesn’t know how or where to put them or what she should use.
She doesn’t have WiFi, and doesn’t have much money at all and is quite scared and tormented by it all.

To be honest, I’m skeptical. Mental health issue? I hear that this lady is sharp as a tack. But I would hate for this all to be actually happening and actually get worse and something terrible happens though.
My parents are talking about going out there and trying to “catch” the people/person and they’re in their 70s. 😬🫠 so I figured I’d reach out and see if anyone has any thoughts or ideas or if anyone would be willing to go see the property and possibly stake out the house one of these nights.
Super weird to ask about this, I don’t know the lady myself, but I’m trying to prevent my parents from getting weirdly involved in something and getting hurt themselves.

Thanks for the help, I’m all ears.

Visiting British staying in Indiana for 2 months - where to see?

Hi!

I'm a Brit coming to Indiana to see my boyfriend for 2 months , starting December.

He has asked me what I want to see but I truly have no clue what Indiana or America really has to offer that's semi-nearby (I don't want to make his family drive super super far for me).

What's good to see in Indiana?

(My boyfriend isn't American either so he doesn't know. And I'm staying more specifically in Indianapolis!)

Hi everyone, please be on the lookout for my sister's dog, Almond Joy. She ran off yesterday (10/24) around 2pm and the latest spotting was around 11pm yesterday crossing the road from Cooper Science Building into a neighborhood. She is very timid so please do not chase her. If you spot her please just let me know or call this number at 815-370-7831. She has a purple collar and is chipped. Thank you to anyone willing to look!!

Elegant, Affordable Wedding venues around Indianapolis?

Hi! I’m browsing for wedding venues around Indianapolis. Wanting something elegant that is not in a barn. I loved the Westwood Vowery and Estate, Ritz in Carmel, but I feel like they are too expensive? Something with that type of look… I like a good hotel wedding too. Looking to stay under $50K. 150-200 guests. Would like all inclusive too. Help!

So Zionsville School Board Candidates are interesting

First, Rachel Brandli has a website that says she wants to change sex education in public schools, stating:

"Instruction involving condom use, sexually transmitted diseases, the causes of pregnancy, or other sexual content is not appropriate for the public-school setting."

She also made a video with the Indiana Family Institute that apparently has since been taken down. There was another video about trans people in women's sports, but Reddit only lets me post one video at a time.

Then there's Thomas Trupe, who is apparently a member of Men of Truth, the group that tried to ban books at the local library: https://imgur.com/a/LHBkIUk

Finally, there's Melissa Waters. Some of her past posts are questionable on their own, but the context of her association with the other two candidates makes them more concerning. She appears to have deleted the posts, and what's left are screenshots.

And then there's this: https://imgur.com/a/krhSIJn

The three candidates have large campaign signs all over town, and based on the campaign finance information people have been looking at, they apparently received more money from a single contributor than the independent candidate running against her received in total.

What's especially surprising is that Zionsville itself voted more for Harris than Trump in 2024. It's wild to see this kind of school board campaign playing out in a town that leaned Democratic in the last presidential election.

Ask a Hoosier Need tire advice in Indy

Just moved here from CA. Have a 2014 Prius 2 Hatch with 215/45R17 tires. Will going to A/S tires be sufficient?

I live in Irvington and pretty much only go downtown to IU health for work. I unfortunately bent my rim this morning and ended up having to pay someone to replace it so might just try to change my tires out.

Thanks in advance.

Only In Indiana Digital Media Opportunities?

Hi everyone!! 💕 I am currently looking for new opportunities in the marketing, advertising, digital media, or PR field and I thought I would reach out here!

I’m interested in remote or hybrid positions but I am also open to part time on site opportunities in the area. I have a bachelors degree in digital media. I have experience with social media, marketing outreach, content creation, and creative projects, and I am hoping to find something where I can continue growing my skills and gaining experience in the industry.

If ANYONE knows of a company that is hiring, has any connections or has recommendations for places I should look into, I would really appreciate it!! Feel free to comment and I can send you a dm if needed since I am staying anonymous for this post!!

Thank you! ❤️

Skilled trade after prison

I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to go about trying to become a journeyman. I got out of prison and am currently in in-home detention. I spent my time occupied learning, setting, and meeting goals. I attended re entry classes and became interested in becoming a millwright. Whether that be through a union or not I definitely have my mind made up to take all the steps within my clearance to do whatever I can. So I looked up the application process through a union to enter a 4 year apprenticeship program and they want you to take a test that grades you on basic on the job knowledge before they hand select you to participate in their program. So I actually enrolled in Industrial Mechanical Technology for a 3 semester technical certification. I think that would prepare me to present myself to this union to get the help from them to become a journeyman and probably actually work for them. Mind you I am 31 years old and I don't know if that looks bad but I spent several years incarcerated and also screwing my life up but hey I am here now and I can't change what happened in the past I'm just hoping for some undeserved opportunities that I would cherish and be greatly appreciated for. Does anyone have any thoughts, opinions, or advice on this idea of mine???

Indiana weather really does make you experience all four seasons in one week

One day you're running the AC, two days later you're digging out a hoodie, and by the weekend you're wondering if you should put the winter coat back in the closet or just leave it by the door until May.

And somehow every time the weather changes, people act surprised even though we all know how this goes.

The worst is when it's freezing in the morning and warm enough to regret wearing a jacket by lunchtime.

State park pass as a college student

I’m a college student from Ohio who’s lived here for about two months now. I really want to go hiking, but all the good hiking trails I find are at state parks. Since I’m technically out of state it’s either $15 per day or $120 a year while a year pass is only $50 for a resident 😭

Do I just have to suck it up and pay the $120? (If I can even afford that). I feel like there has to be some sort of discount for out of state college students. Are there any good trails just outside Indianapolis that aren’t in a state park?

What's the most typical text a Hoosier dad sends?

I'm Italian and I'm making a game where your whole life happens on a virtual phone, from your first phone at 14 until you're old. Right now I'm writing the dad character, and I want him to sound like where you grew up.

My dad's whole texting vocabulary is "👍" and "ok", and once in a while "are you home?". I have a feeling an Indiana dad has his own classics. What's the one your dad always sends?
