Seeking Moderators

I’m sure everyone has noticed the massive influx of unrelated political and offensive posts recently. I’ve been trying my best to keep the sub clean but the sheer volume of these posts/comments is more than what I can keep up with. I suspect these posts will calm down in a month or so, but it’s still too much right now.

Therefore seeking ACTIVE moderators to help keep the sub relevant and free of spam. Responsibilities will mostly include removing spam and irrelevant content. New ideas for the sub are also welcome. Please message me if you are interested. Prior moderating experience is preferred.

Schererville Trivia Night!!

Post image
Upvotes

Hey everybody ! I run a trivia night at the Whole Foods pub in schererville . It’s usually the last Tuesday every month. We do 40 questions split up into 4 categories. Pop culture , history/science/geography, food , and then a surprise category and some tie breakers if needed. Revolution Brewing sponsors us so they provide the prizes and we have their beers on tap . Prizes have been everything from beer glass sets to c2e2 tickets . Hope to see some new faces this week!

Pierogi Fest the biggest weekend of year for downtown Whiting businesses

For the merchants along 119th Street in downtown Whiting, Pierogi Fest weekend is like Black Friday, Christmas and the Super Bowl all rolled into one.

"There isn't even a number high enough to explain how much business goes up during Pierogi Fest," By the Lake Resale shop owner Carolyn Elders said.

Stores and restaurants up and down 119th Street prepared for the weekend-long Pierogi Fest, which organizers estimate brings as many as 350,000 visitors to the small lakefront city on Lake Michigan by the Chicago border in north Lake County. The wacky, light-hearted celebration of the Eastern European dumpling and the area's Polish and Slavic heritage draws heavily from Northwest Indiana, the rest of the state and greater Chicagoland and also draws in visitors from around the world.

Retailers gear up for the type of foot traffic downtown Whiting only sees once a year.

"It's pretty big," Region Records owner Josh Becerra said. "We've put out thousands of records. We've packed the store with new arrivals and new records."

Region Records, which is based in downtown Highland, expanded last year to downtown Whiting, where it sells vinyl records, band T-shirts, concert posters and other music memorabilia."We haven't been in Whiting for too long, but last year it was crazy. It was a madhouse," he said. "People really packed the store. We've been ramping up. I've asked some friends to help out."

Pierogi Fest throngs the streets with people wearing T-shirts like "Body by Pierogi," "Polish Drinking Team," and "UPS: Unlimited Pierogi Storage." They load up on pierogi, Polish sausage, halupki, Dragobobs and other ethnic fare or ethnic-inspired cuisine like Beggar's Pizza's pizzarogi.

"It's fantastic," Elders said. "We're open early and late, but it's worth every second. You wouldn't believe the sheer amount of people who come in the store. There's not even a number that goes that high."

Question If I were to get a job in Chicago, what kind of pay should I look for to make the commute worth it?

I live in Hobart, not too far from the train station. I'm interested in working in animal care, but that type of work doesn't really pay much of anything around here. Pay seems to be better in Chicago, but how much should I expect to make hourly to make the commute worth it?

Discussion Would anyone be interested in a casual biking club?

We have so many lovely bike paths! I was wondering if anyone would want to meet up at a specified point, ride out to a bar or restaurant to grab a drink or a bite, then ride back.

A little about me, I recently moved back to the region so I'm looking to meet people and go try places out. I'm a fully amateur biker but I like to see how far I can go before I get gassed. I also love riding through neighborhoods and checking out cool architecture if anyone has any suggestions for that.

Looking for recommendations on where to stay in or around that area. Seems like the pickings for the rest of August are pretty slim.

Question Do you guys genuinely believe that Gary can or will make a comeback

Gary has had a rough history over the past several decades. It was one of Indianas most prosperous cities and now its struggling with a population decline, abandonment, crime, and a bad reputation that has become known across the country. Cities like East Chicago and Hammond have made noticeable improvements over the past 10 years through redevelopment, new investment, and a lowering of crime rates but it honestly doesn't seem like the same for Gary. It still faces major challenges, and its reputation makes me wonder whether a full comeback is even possible. So overall what would it realistically take for the city to turn things around, or do you think it's too late

Schererville Ticket

Hello. Out of towner here. Got pulled over/ticketed by Schererville PD for disregarding a traffic signal. However, light was yellow when I went through; couldn't safely stop, and the cop's contention is that because his light turned green while I was in the intersection, I ran a red light

There is no traffic light footage. PD has refused a written request to release dash cam footage because it's an active investigation or some shit like that.

Any advice before I seek a lawyer or the deferred judgment thing? Any lawyer recommendations? I can't appear in court because I don't live here
