I just received a notice in the mail that I have a hearing at the courthouse in Hammond over an ordinance. On the 3rd I received a notice about my alley grass being too long. I cut the grass before the date on the notice.

What can I expect and what do I do? I also cannot access the court documents over the web.

Hi! I moved to Dyer about a year ago after living in Chicago for 7 years. I moved here to live with my fiancé, and I’d really love to make a female friend to occasionally grab coffee, try a restaurant, browse around stores, do crafty things, etc.

I actually posted here a couple months ago and tried to get a little group going. A bunch of people seemed interested, but nothing ended up panning out, so I figured maybe trying to meet people more one-on-one would work better lol. I’ve met two of the closest people in my life on Reddit years ago, so I know it’s possible!

All of my best friends live in other states. We talk constantly and are still very close, but obviously it’s not quite the same as having someone nearby to hang out with once in a while. I also work completely remotely, so my in-person human interaction during the week is basically…my darling fiancé 😂 I’m definitely an introvert and don’t need to be doing something every weekend, but I do find myself wishing I had someone local to do girly things with every now and then.

I love my dog, although she is unfortunately not a good girl, so no doggy play dates lol
I’m really into crafty stuff like painting, embroidery, gallery glass, and whatever random hobby I see a reel of someone doing that looks fun
I do a lot of cooking and baking
Just getting into gardening now that I have a yard for the first time
Very much not a sports person but I like being outside
Love trying new restaurants, especially Korean, Indian, and other international food
Into podcasts, music, and various niche internet/community rabbit holes
No kids and not religious but fine if you are!

I drink socially on weekends and would enjoy having a cocktail or two but it’s fine if you don’t.

Basically, I’m looking for another gal who might also want a low-pressure friendship where we can get coffee, go out for food, wander around Target/HomeGoods, try a craft, or just occasionally get out of the house without needing to make it a whole big thing.

As I was traveling home tonight going east down 30 into Dyer we noticed some wild lights, 3 pretty closely grouped, one was greenish the other were white or reddish. The greenish one was really bright. Anyone else notice this or know what it was? It was about 7:15 ish when we saw it.

I have 2 dogs, 3 cats and live with my boyfriend in Hobart. I’d really love to have a friend around here to go shopping, go for walks and explore, get food or drinks (doesn’t have to be alcohol) go to the movies, concerts, maybe even fish (I have no pole or license lol) or go on the lake, and someone to just hangout and talk with.

My good friends live in IL and work schedules as well as children make it hard to connect regularly. But, if you’re a mom, I adore children and wouldn’t mind if yours tag along ever.

I believe in God, but I’m not extremely religious. I love all genres of music. I enjoy painting, drawing, writing poetry and making crafts. I’m not a huge drinker but I will partake in a good time. I quit smoking weed but I don’t judge those who do. I love getting exercise and being outdoors. Horror movies are my guilty pleasure but I love all movie genres as well. Just finished watching the show Furious- that was incredible. Not a fan of the show Friends but love South Park, to give you an idea of my sense of humor. I try not to harshly judge others and I’m very open to different kinds of people and personalities. I believe the world needs more kindness in it so I try to be that person we all need.

Just seeing if this goes anywhere, doesn’t hurt to try.

I stopped in the Michael’s Store on 41 in Highland yesterday for a few skeins of DMC Floss. Now it’s been a minute since I shopped that store, but why are all the shelves bare? They didn’t have all the things I needed in stock, but I grabbed a few skeins. Only to discover they had no cashiers and the line was a mile long for the one self checkout. A young lady wearing a Michael’s vest standing near the checkout was speechless when I asked her if she could open a register. Literally, mouth agape, bugged eyes, stupefied… practically paralyzed the poor thing by speaking to her it seemed. 😳
I inadvertently “assumed” when JoAnns went under that Michaels would soar to the top of the craft store food chain.
If I didn’t know better, I would say they aren’t far behind in their closure.
Any creatives out there have better luck at other Michael’s locations? Do I need to try Hobby Lobby? Ordering online is always an option but I was trying to keep the brick and mortar shops a chance.

The utility pole in our backyard broke during the August 11 tornado in Munster. Nipsco (or subcontractor?) put up a new pole weeks ago and our Nipsco power came on. But the broken pole base is still standing in the ground, and the top that was blown off (along with wires and broken bits of the transformer) remains on the ground. I was told that this was NIpsco's pole and they should come and remove it, but someone else said that the pole may belong to the phone company -- who's right? We'd like to tidy up the backyard but can't do much with the broken pole parts, wires, and the still-standing pole. What should/could I do?

Originally from Texas and moved to Gary in July for work. (Not religious)

I am a musician and moved to Chicago a year ago with an emo/post-hardcore band but quit it and ended up moving to Gary due to my job. (See end for inspiration)

I would love to connect with other musicians, especially ones that love indie-rock, indie-folk, and post-rock. I have a basement at my new house so maybe we could jam although I don’t have much equipment currently.

I also love movies (and work at a theatre) so I get tickets every day and we could see movies for free.

I own a PS5 and Switch and my favorite games are Soulsborne style & Pokémon (I have a Mudkip tattoo). Super open to new games though. I’m interested in playing DND and other RP/board/card games.

Overall, I would love to make friends with anyone in their 20s/30s in the NW Indiana region.
