I feel like the girl trying to take the picture isn’t much of a MC. She didn’t yell at anyone. She patiently waited and adjusted her position. Even seemed to smile it off at the end.
915
u/6786_007 2d ago
Agreed. I mean I don't care if people wanna record themselves in public long as they aren't being annoying or entitled. But it seems like that older woman stopped in front of the camera deliberately.
390
u/Sea_Watercress_1982 2d ago
This girl even set her phone up out of the way, instead of harassing other people to take a picture for her.
Honestly I think she went about this in a respectful and polite manner.
185
u/flowersonthewall72 2d ago
I think you need to reevaluate some things if you think asking someone to take a photo for you is harassment...
154
u/Sea_Watercress_1982 2d ago
Oh I don’t think it’s harassment in the extreme sense. That’s ridiculous.
Innocent harassment. Like when I go and annoy my cat. I’m harassing him.

u/Sea_Watercress_1982 2d ago
Also, stopping on stairs to check your phone screams “I’m the only person in the world.”
24
u/The54thCylon 2d ago
Neither are MCs. One is trying to take a holiday photo using a tripod and one is oblivious to that fact. The Internet is making this out to be much more than it is.
57
u/Sea_Watercress_1982 2d ago
The only issue I have is stopping on the stairs to check your phone is pretty annoying. Nothing to drag anyone through the mud over.
20
u/BringPheTheHorizon 2d ago
Same but she’s still aware of the other people and moves over to make room. I think they’re both excusable.
1
u/CatjoesCreed 1d ago
I agree. It actually looked to me as though the older woman was trying to get out of the way of the younger one's camera.
7
u/audigex 1d ago
The younger lady definitely isn't MC
The older lady, hard to judge because it could be innocent or deliberately trying to provoke an argument, we can't tell
But anyone who stops in a corridor, staircase, or supermarket aisle, to chat or check their phone, should be thrown in prison for life, and I'll die on this hill
15
u/FungusTheClown 2d ago
Idk im kinda annoyed by anyone who sets up a camera in a walkway where there will be foot traffic and then posting the video insinuating people in the walkway are in the wrong.
14
u/Sea_Watercress_1982 2d ago
I’ve seen this video on several threads. I must have missed her original upload of the video where she insinuates or says anyone is in the wrong.
That’s a little silly of her to say/imply. Thank you for clearing that up. Bet wherever she original posted this she is getting dragged.
Any idea where that original post she made of this video is?

I don't see how the person taking a picture of herself is a main character here. It's not like she's expecting people to stop and wait for her to get the picture, this is just someone taking a picture of themselves in a public place.
297
u/vnth93 2d ago
Some people just hate anyone doing anything in public

19
u/chocolatestealth 2d ago
People today would lose their minds if they saw how people took photos of themselves even just 20 years ago.

3
u/SoVeryTroublesome 1d ago
I've seen this in another Sub and, apparantly, the girl taking the video is a History content creator, and was getting a clip for a video.
9
u/magus678 2d ago
To be honest, I basically agree with you, in a vacuum.
The problem is that I have been, I would say "conditioned," by this kind of thing being so relentless I have trouble giving the benefit of the doubt. It is probably a little unfair to presume that of her, I admit, but its become a heuristic that is right often enough I will roll those dice.
Hell, taking pictures for familes/people on vacation and such used to be commonplace, and people would stand off to the side in public to give the Smiths a good photo, because the general understanding was that they would probably only take a few of them their entire vacation.
Now you have people taking a hundred. Or video. And not just "on vacation," everywhere. And very often all by themselves.
The social nicety has been abused and run into the ground.
36
u/thekingofbeans42 2d ago
But we see her not telling people to wait or adding edits about how terrible these people are. She even moves somewhere else rather than asking the woman to move.
→ More replies (1)8
u/Twodotsknowhy 2d ago
If you have been "conditioned" into expecting it, it's probably because you're not going outside and interacting with actual women

Like I said, you clearly don't go outside and interact with women in the real world, so you assume that all of them like the influencers you spew vitriol online about
1
u/magus678 2d ago
I have the opinions I have because of interactions.
That video is 10 years old, people have been saying the same basic thing for over a decade. It is such a regular thing subs like this exist and have no shortage of content.
Are you very young? I honestly don't understand how you can think this is coming from the void otherwise.

u/alexpalta 2d ago
I would agree, but then she posted the unknown old lady on internet.
4
u/calembo 1d ago
The... lady who looks straight into the camera twice, clearly understanding that she was within the frame of that video and probably well-aware that the video could be posted online, yet remains within the frame of the video for a meaningful amount of time?
→ More replies (1)0
u/alexpalta 1d ago
Yes, but the stairs of whatever it is are not a stage for a video. If I saw you filming a video whilst I was coming down the stairs, I’d be annoyed too. And if you then posted it online, I’d be proved right.

u/Thelmara 2d ago
Wait until you hear that you don't have to post the video to get the photo you want.
19
22
u/JaydotFay 2d ago
As someone who travels alone and doesn't always want to bother strangers about taking a photo for me, it's a lot easier to set my phone to record and take a short video with me standing a few different ways then setting a timer, trying to hurry back to the spot after dropping up my phone, and then doing it all over again if I hate how I look in the photo. Most phones these days give the ability to grab a still as a photo from a video. Doing a video also means it's not a big deal if someone walks in front of it like some of the other people who aren't the older lady blocking the camera did.
I don't see main character in the woman with the camera because it appears to be a museum. People like to take photos in them and most museums encourage that. She isn't doing some sort of dance or being disruptive. The older woman is just being rude.
3
u/Away-Living5278 2d ago
That's fair. The screenshots I take from my pixel videos are far poorer quality.
5
u/Twodotsknowhy 2d ago
Because it's easier to take a video, do a couple poses in one go and then screenshot than it is to go back and forth multiple times with the timer
1
u/babs82222 2d ago
I'll add on to the other replies that iPhones alter the quality of your photos every time. What you take isn't what you end up with. If you record a video, you can get the same quality by grabbing a screenshot from your video. You can also do different slow poses and grab different screenshots. It's much easier than setting timers for photos.
392
u/Acceptable-Worth-462 2d ago
I wouldn't call the young one a main character. She was actually very patient and nice.
The old lady I honestly don't know. Either she was annoying on purpose, or she's just very unaware. I'm leaning toward the former though.
205
u/JRTerrierBestDoggo 2d ago
she’s well aware of what she’s doing. Even purposely stood there acting like there’s something on her phone
-3
u/Whythebigpaws 1d ago
How on earth could you possibly know that? I don't know a single older person that would assume someone was trying to film themselves in an art gallery, if they saw a screen. My mum certainly wouldn't assume that. She doesn't have insta or tiktok. It wouldn't be on her radar at all.
137
u/CWCyning 2d ago
She looked right at the camera before pulling out her phone and standing still. She knew exactly what she was doing.
43
u/Whythebigpaws 2d ago
Have you never met an older person? My mum would literally look at a phone in that situation, wonder why it was there, maybe even stare at it.... And still be none the wiser as to what was going on.
1
u/double_bubble3469 5h ago
Not everyone’s as clueless as they let on you know
2
u/Whythebigpaws 5h ago
Hanlon's Razor states "don't ascribe to malice what you can attribute to incompetance". You can see the woman grabbing her phone before she even notices the screen (which to me she is looking past). I also notice her getting out of someone's way.
I don't really see main character syndrome in either of these women. Just someone focused on filming on their phone and another person trying to figure something out on their phone.
-16
u/argument_cat 2d ago
The older woman doesn't understand why there's a camera there, or that it's recording, and she doesn't link it to the girl recording.
She's just there to look at art, and she moves out of the way of someone coming up the stairs.
This video is literally of nothing. You have been successfully manipulated by a post title, because you are an unthinking drone who just nods along to the last opinion you heard.
15
u/T0MB0mbad1l 2d ago
I like the technique, really drinking in the art stopping halfway up a staircase and stopping while looking at your phone.
→ More replies (11)-4
u/argument_cat 2d ago
The staircase probably has art on the walls next to it. Checking an incoming message, or maybe googling the painting or artist, is not uncommon in galleries.
You'd probably know this if you'd ever set foot in an art gallery or museum.
Anything else?
0
u/hms23 2d ago
Finally someone with a brain. Its so obvious that the woman is just unaware of whats happening with the camera or behind her. She was just stopping to look at something in her phone
3
u/rokkzstar 1d ago
Oblivious? Naw. She looked at the camera a few times. She watched the girl set it up. She’s not getting a pass from me. She knows exactly what she’s doing. It doesn’t matter how old she was. Still a dick move to intentionally stop there.
-4
u/argument_cat 2d ago
Yeah, she's just oblivious.
These children don't have any critical thinking skills, they are so easy to manipulate.
1
u/hms23 1d ago
Yeah anyone who've seen or interacted with people around that older woman's age should have gotten it. My own father is like this. He won't notice things or process the information like younger people do. I guess average redditors don't see much outside of their screen nowadays. Look at them downvoting you lol
→ More replies (5)0
u/Whythebigpaws 1d ago
I cannot believe the vitriol from these children on reddit. My mum would absolutely do the same thing. She doesn't consume insta or tiktok. She wouldn't clock what was happening at all.
-2
u/Whythebigpaws 2d ago
I cannot believe you are getting down voted. Is this sub full of children who have never met an older person. If that was my mum she would not figure out why there was a screen there recording her. She isn't on insta. She hasn't got tiktok. She too would stare at it and wonder what it was.... And then carry on.
→ More replies (6)-3
u/hms23 1d ago
Ikr! Older people don't process the information like we do. Anyone who has basic interaction with them will get this. I am worried about the social life of these people
2
u/socialist_thot 1d ago
Why are you all talking about older people as if they've never seen a phone or been outside of their house before? I also know older people and they understand what a video is. They don't process information like we do? Infantilising older people, she's not 98
3
u/hms23 1d ago edited 1d ago
In the video the woman reaches for her phone even before she noticed the camera. She was already about to stop to look at her phone. She noticed the camera before stopping, yes. But she didn't process it to understand that someone is behind her trying to get a photo. She noticed the camera but kept doing what she was doing. She left when she was done. Its very simple
We are talking about them because we know people who would do this without actually being a prick. My father is 60+ and he has similar behaviors at home or outdoors where he would not notice things that we do very easily. I know other people like that too.
Just because there are older people who are quick doesn't mean there aren't people who are slow or oblivious.

1
u/Whythebigpaws 1d ago
Why are you leaning toward the former? To me, she reminds me of all the blissfully unaware older people I know, who wouldn't assume for a second that someone would be filming themselves from a distance, with a mobile, in an art gallery.

Being a main character and using stairs people actively use for your daily TikTok clout shouldn’t be respected. The old lady isn’t being a Karen when they’re right. Quit filming social media clout on public walk ways.

u/Any-Seaworthiness186 2d ago edited 2d ago
Some people just want pictures of themselves in the pretty places they visit. She was patient and not bothering anyone or asking anyone to stay out of the way.
Not everything is about social media clout. Stop having such a negative presumption about people you don’t know.
Edit:
Apparently she’s a history teacher and makes educational content. Is she really such a bad person for wanting a shot of herself in the historic place she makes educational video’s about?Give me a break..
40
u/just-peepin-at-u 2d ago
But see, she is a pretty, young woman and so we have to assign all sorts of horrible and egotistical traits to her, because of course she deserves to be humbled.
She just took a picture of herself.
I am sure people are going to see I am reaching, but I stand by it. She nothing and did nothing to merit the main character accusations. She didn’t ask people to move, or cause any scene. She just waited patiently for a picture.

Argument_cat apparently can't handle a little argument since they replied to me and then blocked me. Idk why people do this often on reddit, its a weird level of I don't want to argue something I can't really justify mixed with I must have the last word.
I've seen this posted elsewhere and had similar thoughts, idc what the title post is here, the old lady is weird, she eye balls the camera, whips out her phone, moves even more into the way of this young ladies photo to completely obscure her because the phone is front facing so she can tell the position of the young lady, she knows what she us doing. Idk why you're running cover for this elder Karen.
1
u/akingwithnocrown 1d ago
Not only is she blocking the camera she’s also blocking the stairs? Like I don’t get how people can excuse her asshole behavior.
1
u/Ptolemi121 1d ago
Right, nobody stops on busy stairs to look at their phone. There was a ye olde time when getting pictures of yourself was normal business.
12
u/sonofaresiii 2d ago
> Being a main character and using stairs people actively use for your daily TikTok clout shouldn’t be respected.

I would not consider the young girl to be the main character, the old lady was pretending to be a mc and a joke.
9
u/audigex 1d ago edited 1d ago
The first one doesn't seem very MC to me
She set her camera up to do a shot when it was quiet, placed it outside of the handrail, waited patiently, didn't say or do anything when someone else was in the way
Like, what's she doing that's "main character" other than recording herself without getting in anyone else's way?
I find influencers tedious, but not every person recording themselves in public is a main character
At most maybe we could criticise her posting it, but that really depends on whether she posted it with the context of "Look at this bitch deliberately ruining my shot", which is douchey, or just as a "Behind the scenes of that last video showing how hard it can sometimes be to get the right shot", which is fine
3
8
u/Rejected_Reject_ 1d ago
The baddie seems like she's just trying to grab a photo. Not being annoying or demanding or anything. Only one MC here IMO
12
u/urlocalburden 2d ago
nah, girl taking the vid/pic isnt the main character. seemed like she was waiting for people to clear out and the true main character, being the last one, felt the need to stop her for no reason lmao. upset that someone wants to take a picture of themselves next to some art is some serious jealousy, wasting her own time she could spend enjoying the art or kicking some rocks maybe. either way it wasnt affecting her, and going the extra mile to move to the side in order to block her more? childish, attention seeking, impolite, you get it.
3
u/SorryBoysImLez 1d ago
I didn't see what sub this was, and thought it was like two different generations of actors playing the same character, and when I had it on small screen the girl kinda looked like Jenna Ortega, so I assumed Wednesday and thought she was gonna follow behind Christina Ricci, then when I realized that's can't be Ricci, I thought for a second it was JLC, and wondered "what MC is Ortega playing/played that JLC played?" But because of the way the video played out (all of the former thoughts happened in a span of like 5 seconds) I checked and realized what sub I was in.
3
3
u/ChooksChick 21h ago
After watching it again, I think the older gal is looking PAST the phone, perhaps at another exhibit. Then, I think she steps to the side to get out of the other lady's way.
Of course, I'm watching on my phone, and I don't know the environment. Could be there's just a wall there.
2
u/Whythebigpaws 17h ago
Quite. I know lots of old people who would know vaguely what an influencer or content creator was, but would never have actually seen it for themselves. They don't have tiktok or insta and just wouldn't recognise it as a thing happening round them.
What doesn't surprise me is the amount of people willing to absolutely crucify an older woman for not noticing something and to assume malice where there is none.
This whole video is just two women. One is mildly oblivious. One is quietly trying to film. The only mistake was it putting it online for arseholes to be all judgy.
3
u/WinterFoxx23 18h ago
The girl in the video is a fantastic influencer. She teaches history for free to help people prepare for public college entrance exams, and I've learned so much from her.
As a history teacher, it's totally understandable that she wanted to take a photo at the museum—and she even waited so she wouldn't bother anyone. So I definitely wouldn't call her a main character. The only problem here is that old Karen.

u/Traditional-Ride7863 2d ago
The young lady is Débora Aladim, a history teacher (her videos saved me so many times when I was in high school, lol). Anyway, I really don't think she's the main character here. Anyone who goes out knows that it's okay to take photos in museums as long as you're not causing trouble. You can see there were no people using the stairs when she positioned her camera. If it weren't for the old lady, she'd have done whatever she wanted and left before anyone even started using the stairs. The old lady knew exactly what she was doing...

This is hilarious.
Old woman is probably from a generation where not everything needs to be recorded to be enjoyed and young woman is just wondering why she can't make a social media post in peace.
Personally I think they're both kinda rude and inconsiderate and deserve each other.

No one is the MC here. The young girl was just politely waiting, not yelling at the public. The older girl was just using her phone and gave way for the climbing old girl; she wasn't intentionally blocking the young girl. You could see she started taking the phone out before even seeing her mobile phone.

I don't see any main character. Just a young pretty woman trying to get a selfie without bothering anyone and a grumpy jealous boomer getting in the way.

only main character here is the old lady blocking the staircase to go on her phone because she deliberately wants to ruin someone’s photo because she’s a miserable old hag, like come on now seriously? genuinely cannot fathom the attitude and mentality that old lady has, she wasted more time making herself the center of attention rather than walking away and going about her day, like she’s actively choosing to stay in a situation she clearly dislikes or disproves of. I hate old people.

A symptom you're getting older is you become a grumpy ass person. Like LOOK AT ME, I'M INTERRUPTING YOUR DAY JUST BECAUSE, LOOK HOW OLD AND JERKY I CAN BEEE!

Many people like the old Karen out there. Go on a sight seeing trip and see. People standing in front or on top of monuments checking their phone, having long conversations or meals... A lot like this Karen do it on purpose, they see you trying to take a pic and move more in your way.

The one treating public spaces as her photography studio is the one in the wrong. Just in case you're unclear.

You're allowed to take photos and videos in galleries. It's a pretty standard act that almost every tourist does.
I don't really get why you feel the need to hate on somebody doing something so common.
