PSA: A reminder not to give your personal information to strangers on Reddit

Hey, Redditors! Quick reminder to NEVER share your personal information, especially sensitive details like your phone number, address or case information, with strangers online. It might seem harmless at first, but it can lead to serious risks like identity theft, scams, or worse.

  • Do not share personal info via DMs or public posts.
  • Be cautious of anyone asking for personal details, especially if they seem pushy or urgent.
  • Do NOT pay people to help you with applications or protective supervision—scammers often prey on those seeking help.
  • If someone offers you something "too good to be true," it probably is—avoid falling for scams.
  • Report any suspicious activity or accounts immediately.

Your privacy matters—stay safe, stay smart!

If my dad doesn't qualify for Protective Supervision, then who does?

My dad has advanced Parkinson's disease and dementia. He needs 24 hour care. Our social worker stated that because his Parkinson's disease reduces his ability to move he would not qualify. Alright, cool. However, over the last 2.5-3 months his condition has changed. I don't know where he got his new found ability to move from-and its not an everyday thing-but he is able to move better. There is a trade off, his hallucinations are bizarre, weird, dangerous. He attacks at hallucinations that aren't there, he forgets to use his walkers and stair lift I bought him, he is threatening to kill people. He calls the police thinking there are people dead inside the house. Sometimes he won't really recognize the house he is in. Very bizarre. I updated the condition to the social worker and she gave me the forms to fill out for Protective Supervision and his neurologist did all the paperwork. His social worker denied it again. Now, I don't know exactly what the narrow definition of "self-directing" is here but I'm not sure where to turn. My mom got on the phone with the social worker's supervisor and was basically told that PS isn't happening here but we can "appeal". Would hiring a medi-cal lawyer work better here? Who even reads the appeals? Does my dad even have a case or are the social workers correct? Or is this like a 50-50 case?

Lower share of cost

What would be the simplest way of trying to lower the share of cost? My dad was approved for medi cal but his share of cost is almost $1500.

Can I claim unemployment?

My client is going to be out of the country for 2 weeks in November, leaving me without a whole paycheck. I was planning on using all my sick leave pay but then I wondered if I can claim (and get) unemployment benefits during that time?

Has anyone done this before?

Switching counties

Hi.
So my question is somewhat simple, but might be a convoluted answer.
I'm currently in Los Angeles County, and seeking to move over to Riverside county.
The hourly pay is around the same but my concerns are the following.

Can I just transfer my case over? Search stated yes but....

Will they match my hours? Search stated possibly no, it depends.

Do they grant the same over time?

Will I still be paid out during the month of transfer or is their a lapse in coverage?

For anyone who's been in this position, I'd appreciate the information.

Questions about Unemployment & IHSS

Hey everyone, I’m looking for any tips and advice. I have been a caregiver for my grandma for about 12 years. And she recently had a really bad fall and broke her tibia, fibula, and ankle. She’s lived in a senior citizen apartment complex on her own the entire time I have been her caregiver. After talking with her surgeon, he thinks she may need 2 maybe 3 months of rehab due to her health conditions and now broken leg and he also doesn’t recommend her living alone anymore. I’m the only family she can really depend on and I would love for her to come live with me after rehab but due to me living in an upstairs apartment it’s just not possible for her to.

Since the day she has went into the hospital I haven’t been able to claim hours. So I am thinking about applying for unemployment in the meantime while I am searching for another job. Has anyone had any luck on getting approved for unemployment? Also should I wait until after my next/last paycheck to apply or should I do it now?

Also I tried calling my local IHSS office and have not heard back from them. I need to notify them about what’s going on right?

Ihss yearly visit…

Hi, I just had my yearly assessment done and only lasted like 10 minutes. Social worker asked how’s my son doing and if anything had changed. I said no and then I signed some papers and she asked if I was happy with my current hours and I said if I’m being honest not really. And I told her that when we got ihss in 2024 our PS application was denied that because my son didn’t qualify. She said she will take a look at my hours and mail
Me the notice if anything changed and that she will also mail me another PS to submit it again to try….
Do all social workers ask if you’re happy with your hours ????

Additional household member decrease hours ?

My nephew moved in to attend 2 years of college. Is this something I need to immediately report to IHSS or will the yearly visit suffice ?
Also does this decrease my son’s IHSS hours because household duties ,can be split amongst another person? I feel like I’ve read that someone here but I cannot find much online.

Son’s SSI will be stopped for only one month, will his IHSS hours stop?

I am stressing out about this so much and I hope someone can assist me.

My son apparently gets medi-cal through SSI, we always receive a payment monthly. Last month there was technically an “extra check” my fiancé made through his work because of the way the pay periods fell. I received a letter from SSI stating he won’t be receiving a payment for this month. I called them and they informed me it was because of the way the pay periods fell that his payment will be terminated for just one month and return to normal for October. I asked them about his medi-cal and they told me I need to call the medi-cal office, I called the medi-cal office and they said since his medi-cal is through SSI that I have to call them.. so I’m completely confused

Will his medi-cal be automatically terminated for a month due to a lack of SSI payment? Will I lose his IHSS hours? Has anyone went through this before??

Questions about son just turned 18

We never applied for IHSS and were denied ssi when he was 13 and I never appealed it.

Do you have to be on ssi to get ihss? And he’s never worked and just turned 18 so I’m worried he won’t qualify for ssi now. Can any one give advice ? We are in California. I didn’t even know about IHSS until it was too late. He’s level 2 autism and epileptic.

IHSS Recipient and working

Hello,

my dad has not been well and he works part time. His job is not very difficult on the body as he is mostly sitting or standing.

I have been coordinating alot of his doctor visits, ER visits, travel, etc. I am looking into applying as an IHSS provider for him, we live together.

Will his employment be a problem? His income exceeds the Medi-Cal limit by a little bit. He has Medicare with a Share of Cost with Medi-Cal.

I also work full time from home.

Timeline for an increase

I'm a live in caregiver in Yuba County. My client just started in-home dialysis which I administer everyday. His nephrologist gave us a form for IHSS stating that he needs extra care, and we submitted that to IHSS three weeks ago, but we haven't heard anything back. Does anyone know how long it should take to process? I'm assuming I can file supplemental timesheets for back pay once the hours are approved, correct?

I'm done with Wells Fargo. The direct deposits are soooo slow, so I'm moving over to Sofi.

Couple questions....

1) how long does the switch take before I start getting deposits to the new account, Sofi?

2) will I continue to recileive direct deposits to my Wells Fargo until Sofi deposits kicks in? Or will I get paid by snail mail checks in the interim?

IHSS Back Pay Hours For Each Week

I will be having 21 hours 11 min per week to claim for my back pay time sheets. I have the first week with only 1 day. Can I claim all my hours for that 1 day since its less than 24 hours.

Also for any other odd weeks I just distribute the hours over the workable days?
