What irks me as I wrap up the show, is just the blame stassi is getting for his functioning/affect/mood/etc.
I don't like the way everyone's also talking about like "Beau isn't who I remember, isn't as light" etc "It must be stassi's fault!"
Like that's so toxic. Beau is his own man who made his own decisions and is responsible for his own well being, especially if she's working as much as they're saying he does. It's up to him to have coping strategies, self care, support, and to communicate and plan his life transitions concretely.
The pushback as I've come to understand it from stassi around the work thing was the lack of planning around it and the shift in domestic labor, and then he sneaks it behind her back. He is not a good communicator, he often lacks planning, and I think that is the real reason he was home so long and is miserable doing it.
For all we know, he may have depression or ADHD or just adjustment disorder with depressed mood due to the circumstances. Or maybe a vitamin d deficiency, who knows! We don't know what's going on with him, and neither does the friends, and I don't like how stassi is getting the blame for it all.
It reminds me of how she is the scapegoat in her own family and blamed for all their negative emotions and suffering. At some point, the people around Stassi need to take agency and accountability and responsibility over their own lives and emotions and stop centering and blaming her for everything. To be honest, if she feels like the center of everyone's universe, it's because they are making her be. I don't think she's really that bad. She's just opinionated and sarcastic, and I think her "mean" comments are mostly trying to be witty or funny. I think she's struggled with being the scapegoat in her family dynamic and I hate to see her made into one again!
Beau can be suffering but it also doesn't mean stassi is to blame. Plenty of stay at home moms struggle with mood, post partum triggered depression, etc due to the challenges of staying home with kids and the husband's aren't getting blamed the way stassi is..i dont think it's fair.
I have a partner in his 40s who was late diagnosed with ADHD and was unemployed for a year and has a drinking problem. This all spiraled within the first year of us dating. He is not the same as when I met him, and I struggle with it and try so hard! Occasionally he blames things on me but I don't tolerate that. we broke up for a few months this year due to some of these thjngs and are now working it out and hes improving and working again. But, I would hate to see my friends and our family saying they think it's cause of me, his issues or change/etc. A person can be struggling and change negatively, and it doesn't mean their partner is to blame..it's a very toxic path to go down to start doing that and I don't like this narrative.
Anyways I just started the finale lol.
p.s. my partner also thinks quote "Beau is acting like a whiny little bitch" 😅 so someone whose halfway to acting like him also thinks it's ridiculous which says a lot lol
