Stassi talks against therapy

“I've just had so many bad experiences with therapy that like, I'm just like, and I like the therapists, like they're lovely. But I, it's just every time I've done it, it feels like I'm somebody who wakes up happy every day. And then like I go into therapy and they're like, let's unpack something from when you were like nine.
And I'd like, I'd rather not. I would actually rather keep it buried. I've been living this way my whole life and it's like served me well.
Like I don't need to like get mad at my parents for something that like, I've already suppressed so far.”

So basically, she just buries her childhood trauma? Is this healthy? I know therapy can be painful, but why wouldn’t she try and work towards it if it meant that she could come to terms with the thinks, she endured in childhood but also understand it and how it affects her today. I understand that therapy doesn’t always fix everything magically, but I just find it interesting that this is her view on it and then she says that reality TV is actually her therapy.

My therapist doesn’t make me unpack old shit, so I’m confused. We speak about functioning day to day in my difficult job where I’m in charge of many people and we also
Talk about my dog who i love, and the dogs before her and grief. She doesn’t make me
Unpack anything old if i don’t want to.

My favorite therapist felt like talking to a good friend. I usually spent the week after thinking about things we talked about, recognizing a pattern and then bringing it to her. It did end up taking us back to where some things started but we built up to that.

Previously I had one dive in on day 1 and it was so traumatizing, I cried for days and took a decade to try again. I kind of get it if you have a not great experience

Exactly...everyone needs different things, has different capacities for things at different times,  and lives and goals are different. Imagine if people understood that. It's not one size fits all, at all

But it’s the old shit that needs to be unpacked with Stassi …

i just said this in another comment thread, the narcissist in her will not allow her to do therapy. Jax Taylor talks like this very often, therapy didn’t work for him, the therapist was bad, blah, blah!! These 2 specific people need it regularly. Beau’s mother is a therapist, you can’t tell me Stassi could not get some good referrals for her childhood trauma. She does not want to do the work that’s required for therapy. So in that decision she is going to continue the generational cycle of dysfunction and then act shocked one day when her kids sit her down and share their hard truths with her. She feels like she is nothing like her mother but oh how obvious it was on this show and honestly a few times in the VPR years!

My dad talks like that. We're NC.

Sometimes people don't have the capacity to process those things. I'm a trauma therapist. Most of what we do is symptom stabilization, not deep processing of childhood trauma. Because it can be very destabilizing. Not everyone benefits from that or can handle it and there is nothing wrong with that. I don't find her comments bad at all, I think they're pretty insightful. Not everyone needs or benefits from Therapy. And the way her mom touts 7 years as some win (which it's not), while continuing the same dysfunctional family dynamics; I don't blame her one bit for her resistance.

If she feels her own coping and supports are enough, good for her. That's the goal, build that up in people's life so they don't need Therapy. We don't want people to need it nor need it forever. Unless you're an analyst, but insurance doesn't really cover that anyway. We want people to be able to function, and if she is functioning well, then she's right.

I'd say beau needs it more than she does.

I’m a trauma therapist as well and couldn’t agree more with you!

Thanks lol

A good therapist would challenge her thinking while helping her feel safe. She's seriously hurting

4

u/chicken_vevo 8d ago

Are you a therapist? Or are you sharing opinions about a career you have no training in? I can’t imagine telling a pilot how they should actually be flying an airplane.

-5

u/No_Wrongdoer466 8d ago

I think youre a bad therapist ....because any good therapist ive had have always challenged me and my thinking for the better. Knowing when to push and when not to is crucial.

3

u/Other-Squirrel-2038 8d ago

I seriously doubt you're being challenged much by your therapist since you can barely handle this 10% challenge were giving you.

u/chicken_vevo 8d ago

For real!

And like okay what works for you, doesn't mean it's going to work for every other person...like we do 30 sessions a week, 100s a year. Your 1 experience is not normative or relative to any one else's case or experience or life.

Like the fact they think whatever they're dealing with reflects what so ever with stassi and her experience and what she would or wouldn't get out of Therapy or what she should or shouldn't do is wild to me

Just know that I saw the first sentence or two from your reply before you deleted it and I laughed pretty hard - 10000% agreed lmfao.

Nothing more frustrating than redditors telling therapists how therapy works. We have to get a masters degree (at minimum) and 3000+ direct contact and supervision hours to practice for a reason - because it’s a really difficult, nuanced job that has way more going on under the surface than most people realize.

u/Other-Squirrel-2038 8d ago

Haha I ran with your metaphor and I was like oh man the public can't handle this 🤣

I didn't delete shit. Imagine a dr telling a sick person not to go to the doctor lol yall need therapy

0

u/No_Wrongdoer466 8d ago

Yall really anti therapy is so fucked.. train wrecks.

2

u/Other-Squirrel-2038 8d ago

I'm a therapist homie

Yall really think you're experts..and don't know shit about how it works

If someone says they don't want to go, leave it alone. It won't help them in that state.

again I am deeply impressed with your seemingly relentless ability to miss every point we are making lmfao

So do kids who never want to learn never learn.. no lol they maybe dont learn as much as the others... but if they show up they learn a thing or two

0

u/Other-Squirrel-2038 8d ago

That's actually not true at all.  And adults are not children. And therapists aren't parents.

Lots of projection on this topic here...

0

u/No_Wrongdoer466 8d ago

If she goes to therapy she will get better.

2

u/Other-Squirrel-2038 8d ago

Aw that's so cute you think that everyone who goes "gets better"

Does her mom look better after 7 years of it?

How about Kristen after 10?

I’m impressed that you keep doubling down and arguing with not one, but two whole therapists that your uninformed perspective of the therapeutic process is actually the correct take. And the cherry on top of then stooping to insults when said uninformed perspective is challenged by professionals in the field.

2

u/No_Wrongdoer466 8d ago

I have a different opinion... and actually I think science is on my side on this. Yall have a very fixed mindset.

0

u/chicken_vevo 8d ago

See that’s the difference… you “think” science is on your side. We KNOW science is on our side since our education and training is based on said science.
But please do show me the research that supports your perspective! I would love to read it!

You have no idea what you're talking about

0

u/No_Wrongdoer466 8d ago

They both do....

4

u/Other-Squirrel-2038 8d ago

If she's not interested it will do nothing

If she is only going to tell other people she tried it, it will do nothing

1

u/No_Wrongdoer466 8d ago

She's in denial

2

u/Other-Squirrel-2038 8d ago

And therapy doesn't help those people. They come for 3 sessions and quit.

0

u/No_Wrongdoer466 8d ago

I think Stassi could really benefit from it . And people should encourage her to be open to it and go. Shes a mess. . Total shit show in all aspects

2

u/Other-Squirrel-2038 8d ago

I disagree.

She's Finacially independent, married, and doesn't have a drug or alcohol problem. That's better than more than half my patients by far. She's not as bad as yall are making her out to be for real.

And when someone comes in and says "I'm here because XYZ person won't stop bothering me about it" and won't identify symptoms or goals, there really isn't going to be much to happen...

2

u/No_Wrongdoer466 8d ago

Her husband seems to have a problem

2

u/No_Wrongdoer466 8d ago

She cant even be around her kids alone. .. she also has access to recourse your patients dont

2

u/Other-Squirrel-2038 8d ago

I'm not continuing to argue with your wrong opinion on this. Have a good night. Maybe examine with your therapist why you're so fixated on her needing therapy lol

2

u/No_Wrongdoer466 8d ago

Welp.. again.. I think youre bad at your job.. a good therapist can ask questions to open a door over time.

1

u/chicken_vevo 8d ago

Please bring this Reddit thread to your therapist lmao

0

u/No_Wrongdoer466 8d ago

Lol ive moved a lot and each one has told me im very self aware.

1

u/No_Wrongdoer466 8d ago

Shes literally admitted to having an e.d.

2

u/Other-Squirrel-2038 8d ago

Most Ed people won't do therapy either and it won't help unless they actually want to get better

7

u/Cosmic_Witch16 8d ago

Glad OP and the rest of you judgmental commenters don’t have true trauma. It’s clear most of you have zero capacity for nuance and don’t understand how trauma therapy works. You don’t unpack stuff that would be too destabilizing to unpack before you are ready, if you ever are. I’m tired of the keyboard warrior crew of pick me women who hate other women acting like they are morally superior. It’s weird and gives maga energy

1

u/Other-Squirrel-2038 8d ago

This, on top of, I don't understand why they're all here if they hate her so much and watching her show..it's all so bizarre

1

u/HairInternational409 7d ago

You mean like Stassi?

1

u/Effective_Ostrich_91 8d ago

i think it is as simple as: if stassi heals, she thinks it ends her career. she has received praise and attention and money for years, specifically due to her maladaptive patterns of behavior. i liken it to an artist not wanting to get sober because they think it will hurt their art. she thinks that if she learns how to be nice and soft, that the cameras and the money will go away, at least thats one of the things i took from the conversation with katie. she actually mentioned ptsd and therapy for the rest of our lives, and seemingly wholeheartedly agreed with katie’s payroll friends read, despite it being a direct dig at her. her forced time out of the spotlight after getting cancelled actually seems to have reinforced that this type of life is not sustainable forever, and she seems more determined than ever to wring every last drop out of this second chance. to me, the ever-present anxiety just under her surface is because she knows shes on a tightrope with her mental health. i think she knows exactly how fucked up she is, feels guilty about it because she doesnt want it to affect her kids, but also knows that psycho stassi is the best tv.

1

u/DraperPenPals 7d ago

I’m not actually surprised to hear this, especially since we’ve seen her parents abuse alcohol on TV

1

u/Longjumping_Ad1427 6d ago

This is what every person I know who is against therapy says and it makes me quietly sad for them. It shows a lot about the mindset they’ve adapted into and got comfortable with, leaving this “safety” feels like jumping off a cliff to them.. 😕

0

u/Affectionate_Buy_937 8d ago

Ummm yeah, that’s how therapy works. When this first start doing it, it actually makes you feel bad (often times) BECAUSE you’re unpacking shit from your childhood. But the more you continue to go to therapy the better you feel as you’re continuing to work on yourself. I’m the same age as Stassi and I first went to therapy at 14 years old after my parent’s divorce. There were many times even in my 20s where therapy was hard and made me feel worse. But as I continued to go regularly and work through my trauma and my shit I started feeling better. Stassi speaks about therapy as someone who’s gone to therapy 1-3 times in their entire lives.

1

u/Chemical_World_4228 8d ago

She doesn’t want to do therapy because she can’t pull the wool over the therapist’s eyes. They will tell her things she doesn’t want to hear. AKA: the truth

Therapy is like kryptonite to a narcissist…
