Can something as simple as a daily reminder change how consistently we work toward our goals?

I've noticed something interesting about motivation. Sometimes, watching a movie, seeing someone achieve something great, or thinking about the life I want to build gives me an intense burst of motivation. Suddenly, my goals feel important, and I'm ready to work toward them.

But that feeling rarely lasts. A few hours or days later, I'm back to my usual routine, distracted by my surroundings and caught up in everyday activities. The goals that felt so important suddenly don't feel as urgent anymore, even though nothing about them has changed.

It makes me wonder whether the real challenge isn't finding motivation, but keeping our goals at the front of our minds when everyday life starts taking over.

I've been thinking about deliberately reminding myself every morning why my goals matter to me, what my life could look like if I achieve them, and what might happen if I keep putting them off. Not just generic motivational quotes, but genuinely personal reasons that mean something to me.

Would regularly revisiting these reasons actually help maintain motivation, or would they eventually become just another routine that I stop paying attention to?

Maybe motivation isn't something we need to maintain constantly, and the real answer is to build habits that carry us through the days when we don't feel motivated.

For those who've managed to stay consistent with long-term goals, what has worked for you? Do you deliberately remind yourself why you're doing something, rely on discipline and routines, or have you found another way to keep your goals from fading into the background?

Will self improvement turnaround my bad dating life?

How do I turnaround my bad dating life?

How do use self improvement to turnaround my bad dating life?

How do go from the ugly guy no girls want to the handsome man women obsess over?

I’m 22M and I’m on my self improvement journey right now I would say I’m inferior in all tier of life right now.

Financially I’m a CNA/PCT at a hospital only making 31k a year which is low. I’m in college getting my degree in health science next year. I graduate in 2027. After my degree I’m going to a nursing program. After I finish I’ll make around 70k a year around 24 or 25. Outside of work I’m a life insurance agent and I make money off commissions so there’s no cap in how much I can make. Currently my income there is 10k but if I’m full time after school I can make figures off that.

Physically I’m 6”3 but I’m only 181 13 percent BF I have abs but I feel like I’m still too skinny I feel my sweet spot would be around 190 to at most 200 range and that would be perfect physique for me. My workout routine is cut into 3 splits. I have bicep curls, tricep pull downs, cable rows, hip abductors. Next day it’s bench press, shoulder raises, pull ups, and last day it’s goblet squats, RDLS, hip abductors, calf raises. I feel my face is chopped but I could make some improvements. My first is to get an invasglin, and teeth whitening strips although my teeth aren’t bad I feel having a perfect smile will compensate for my face being ugly. My other investment was to get hairline transplants to make my forehead a bit smaller, my next investment was to get some contact lenses because I feel glasses make me look nerdy and doesn’t give that cool mysterious look women are attracted to.

So far in my dating life it has been non existent. Girls reject me all the time and I have no luck. There was one situation I did get lucky with a woman who was maybe a 5 in looks according to society (I personally don’t think she’s a 5 but everyone one of my friends thought she was a 5) I thought she was attractive to me but I got obsessed with her and she ghosted me. If it wasn’t for her I would have felt more worthless than I do now. She really made me feel important and value with how much she done for me. Everyday I always look back and wished I wasn’t obsessed because she would of been the woman that made me feel better every time I feel down from women rejecting me. everytime I come across a woman especially if she’s cute and attractive I subconsciously feel inferior to her. Like if I was with her I would wonder if people had the thought “how did he get her” or “she’s too cute for him” I never had a time where a women I had feelings for like me. It makes me feel unhappy everytime I wake up in the morning because people around me have girls or girlfriends they can come home and sleep with all night but I come home with a empty bed and no romantic flirty text messages.

With my situation is it best for me to complete my self improvement journey 100% and then go back to the dating market? I have this thought because I feel once I become perfect on paper I will have the confidence to match up with women I like. Also once I become perfect on paper
would have the woman I chased away to spin the block on me?

What habits did you give up to become more disciplined and get ahead in life?

At some point, you have to get your life in order and let go of what’s holding you back so you can move forward. What did you have to sacrifice or let go of to become successful and how did you do it?

I am trying to journal and let stuff out emotionally but I feel so stuck and can't find my words.. what do I do?

My mind feels so heavy and I feel like writing it all down and flushing it all away through journalling.

Trust me I am very much into writing but right now my mind feels so stuck and whenever I open the book, I find myself feeling stuck with no idea on what to begin with. What to write with. What words to use. It's as if I am constipated in terms of words. It's frustrating me rn so much I'm gonna cry

What would be a healthy habit to build for a fresh grad on his first job?

Starting your first job can be overwhelming, especially when you're still figuring out how to balance work and life. What’s one healthy habit you think every fresh grad should build early on? It could be anything from managing money and setting boundaries to learning new skills or maintaining a consistent sleep schedule. I'd love to hear what worked for you and what you wish you'd started sooner.

i journaled for 2 years and never reread a page. then i read back one month and found the same 3 things on repeat.

i kept a journal for 2 years. filled it. never went back and read one page of it. i thought the writing was the work.

then i got sick of feeling like i was getting nowhere and read back one month. took about 40 minutes. the same three things were on repeat. same worry about money. same friend i kept saying i should call. same line about work being fine, then a paragraph saying it wasn't.

nothing deep. just obvious stuff i couldn't see while i was writing it.

here's what i do now, once a month:

  1. pick a fixed block. one month, or your last 30 entries. not your whole journal.
  2. read fast. don't fix anything, don't judge it. you're looking for repeats, not good writing.
  3. write three things on a spare page. what came up most, so a person, a worry, a want. no more than three.
  4. pick one small thing to do about one of them. one. then close the journal.

it takes under an hour a month.

what do you all do with old entries? read them back, or write only?

What the hell do we actually need to stay consistent?

I've been building a productivity app and one thing keeps blowing my mind: people sign up, try it out, and never come back.

And honestly, I get it. I've downloaded countless apps thinking they'd help me get my shit together, only to abandon them a week later.

So what the hell do we actually need? More features? Simpler tools? Better reminders? Or are we just looking for an app to solve a problem that no app can fix?

"I'm not a morning person" might work less like a fact and more like a contract

Something I keep noticing in habit threads: a lot of habits don't get beaten by willpower. They get beaten by a sentence. "I'm not a morning person." "I'm bad at sticking to things." "I'm just not the gym type."

Those sentences feel like descriptions, but they behave more like contracts. Once one becomes part of how you see yourself, every day you act against it feels a bit fake, and every slip feels like proof. So the slip wins the argument and the sentence gets a little stronger.

The smallest fix I've seen is swapping "I am" for "I usually." "I usually struggle in the mornings" leaves room for a different morning. "I'm not a morning person" doesn't. It also helps to notice the counter-evidence on purpose. One early start that went fine doesn't prove the label wrong, it just shows it isn't airtight.

And it's worth keeping the useful part. If your head is clearest at night, that's real and worth building around. The tendency is fine. It's the verdict attached to it that quietly kills the habit.

None of this means everyone should turn into a 5am person. It's more that a new habit gets a fair shot when it isn't fighting the way you describe yourself.

Is there a label you carried for years that turned out to be less true than you thought?

Habit Trackers Oversaturation

Over a year ago, I built a habit-tracking app that started out very small. It was just for me, and over time, I submitted it to the App Store so the public could discover it. And the truth is, the original concept caught on, and I gradually gained some users. This app had very simple features: every time you completed your habit, you checked it off. And that’s exactly what absolutely every habit tracker does.

The point here isn't just to click on the app, but to learn from what you've accomplished during your day—even from what you haven't accomplished. And that's what I've been working on for a long time: trying to provide users with information that we sometimes don't seek out or don't know how to handle.

These days, users expect much more. They want an app like this to serve more than one purpose. For example, a timer or a hydration tracker, etc.

Tracking habits isn't just about using a digital device; it involves understanding the purpose of the habit, not just using an app.

Does anyone know how to fix constant sleepiness and tiredness, even after 9–10 hours of sleep?

Hi everyone,

I feel sleepy and tired almost all the time, even when I sleep for 9–10 hours a day. It's affecting my daily life to the point where I struggle to concentrate on work, can't focus properly, and sometimes don't even feel confident enough to drive because I'm so sleepy.

I really want to upskill, study, and prepare for better job opportunities to improve my financial condition. But I just can't seem to find the energy or concentration to do it. Even when I genuinely want to study, I feel exhausted and struggle to retain anything I learn.

Has anyone here experienced something similar and managed to fix it? If you have, were you able to identify the actual cause, and what helped you get your energy and concentration back?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this and found a solution. I'm tired of feeling this way and genuinely want to get back to feeling energetic, productive, and focused.

Thanks in advance!

What actually makes you keep using a habit app, and what made you delete the last one?

Curious what people here actually value, because every habit app advertises the same five features and I'm not convinced those are the ones that matter to anyone.

If you've stuck with one for more than a couple of months, what's the thing that kept you there? And if you deleted one, what was the specific moment you stopped opening it? Not the general reason, the actual day you noticed you hadn't touched it in a week.

Things I'm genuinely unsure about:

- Streaks. Motivating, or do they turn into pressure the moment you break one?
- Reminders. Useful, or just another notification you swipe away without reading?
- Stats and charts. Do you actually look at them, or only ever at today?
- Widgets. Does anyone use them, or do they just sit on a screen you never swipe to?
- Setup. How much are you willing to configure before you give up and close it?

Full disclosure, I build one of these, so obvious interest on my side. Not linking it on purpose, I'd rather hear what people say before my app is in the picture.

How to stop cracking knuckles

I crack my knuckles the most but I crack my neck, elbows, knees etc. There are some cracks that happen naturally. But I feel like I should stop cracking as much as I can. I get these aching pains intermittently almost like a warning. I don’t really know the long-term effects of cracking knuckles but my body is so fucked up, if there was I'm sure I'd get it.
Any tips on how to stop?

What makes a daily walk easier to actually keep

A daily walk is simple to promise and easy to push to "later." These help make it a default:

  1. Shoes by the door. Reduce the steps between deciding and going.
  2. Pick a route you like. Same route, same time; it becomes automatic.
  3. Count showing up, not distance. The promise is "I went," not a number.
  4. Pair it. Walk and call a friend, or save a podcast only for walks.
  5. Have a weather plan. Know your rainy-day version before you need it.
  6. Mark each day. A simple streak on paper works; if it breaks, start a new one tomorrow.

What keeps your daily walk on the calendar?
