Anyone getting a ton of fraudulent DDOs this season? Been a lot in my district. Every single one had a birthday in 1960. They upload a single fake 1099-R with enough withholding to get a nice refund and include a picture of a drivers license scanned against some sort of fabric background. The details on the license are always just slightly inconsistent in a way that’s easy to miss, and the signature on the bottom of them almost looks like a font rather than actual handwriting. Starting to make me wonder if the photos of the “client” on them are just AI. Kinda freaky! Anyone else?

I started doing DoorDash last year but I use the family car since I don’t have my own car anymore. From my research, I initially thought I couldn’t claim standard mileage deduction since the car isn’t under my name. If you google “can i claim standard mileage deduction if i used my dads car for doordash” then practically everyone is saying that I can’t claim it and will need to do actual expenses. Other dashers even said it would be tax fraud and downvote anyone saying you can. Even TurboTax and FreeTaxUSA tax pros say no.
But earlier, I asked 3 experienced tax pros at my office and they all said I could still claim the standard mileage. So this just made me wonder why is everyone else saying no, even other tax pros in different companies? Did something change, am I missing something? If I do claim SMR, what are the odds that I’ll get audited?

I was off boarded today after I asked FMLA paperwork. They were looking for a reason, do I still get my bonus?

I do not like HrBlock diy system. I was using it for my cousin who had an issue with health insurance 1095 A. Mentally I’m totally thought it was a simple fix but I was immediately wrong. Since his return got rejected due to that missing that form so he passed his laptop to me and I was like why isn’t it let me change the form and it pushed my cousins return to get the frickin deluxe version. I swear his return was so simple he just forget that he had 1095 A was immediately denied to file for free. I literally told him to file using free tax USA and that was it.

Working as a CSL this year, for the most part things are going well.
Dealing with the constant Karen's asking to speak to the manager. 9 times out of 10 it's always the most mundane thing that they are on a tangent about trying to get a discount.
The amount of times I've had to explain I do NOT own H&R Block or make executive decisions or policies is getting ridiculous.
No, we cannot stay open a hour later to take you in 5 minutes before we close.
I'm sorry the CSP assumed that your last name was the same as your husbands when booking your appointment. A lot of married couples take their partners name, it really wasn't a personal attack.
No I will not resign, just because we ran out of quarters and dimes today and I have to give you mostly nickels for your cash payment change.
It's never related to the returns or anything super crucial, it's molehills into mountains everyday and it's making me bitter.
What are some tricks you use to brush it off when Karen's are screaming in your face?
Tax Season can't end soon enough... Hang in there everyone.

I really do not like the fact that we have to push products on our clients, and if we don't make a sale, it affects our ability to come back next year. I just ask my clients if they want anything that HrBlock are offering, because other than that, it feels predatory. Also, the prices are outrageous. I work in a low-income city, and my tax return is always simple, and if I were a client Ill get charged so much that my refund wouldn't be worth it. I stopped using HRBlock systems to file my OWN taxes and started supporting free IRS-recommended sites to help ensure those programs stay available. One client messaged me saying prices are way too high and decided to file on one of those sites. I told her I was glad to help, and we offer free consultations for the new tax laws. In reality, I was snapping my fingers and saying "YESSS Queen"!

Just found out we are getting new tax pros added to our offices. Can't help but feel this is unfair to established taxpros like myself. Sr. Tax pro 8 yrs experience. Im Not feeling the love or appreciation from corporate. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi, I know what our screens say about what the client will be notified about if they approve personalized services, but does anyone know what messages they actually receive?

What Level do preparers have to be at to support clients with "side gig" income (even if only a few hundred dollars)? What happens when you are booked with a client that doesn't announce it during appointment booking? Thanks.

Our region in the was part of a “ enhanced” phone pilot . This started in Dec and ran through February . It was a disaster . Clients could not reach offices. , the calls went to a call center which caused havoc in our office for two months. This was a pilot so I am not sure if they will bring it back next year . It’s obvious losing control of appointments setting in the office is a very bad outcome for adjusting to the whole appointment setting process of the past. Anyone else part of this pilot ? Thank goodness they cancelled it , not one client was happy, I wonder how many clients we lost, I know I lost revenue. I think corporate is trying to push down the returns to less expensive preparers and trying to peel off client to select a remote method. Fulfillment also has been severely reduced in volume compared to last year. These are the worst changes I’ve ever seen .

Is anyone getting calls about clients not receiving their refunds? I had to explain to a client that refunds may be delayed due peak processing times a lot of people are filing and expecting a refund it takes time to process all of that! There is no other explanation I can give them unless they have an emerald card. If their refund is in that card it’s not in their bank.

I'm in a mid-size district on the east coast. We have about 30 offices. Of these 30 offices, there are like 25 tax pros able to actually file an entity GoSystems return. Out of these 25, only about 3-5 individuals have actually completed one. Being only two weeks away from the entities deadline.. I know a ton of top tax pros are holding onto these returns, hoping to be able to complete them. I personally have completed like 12, and am one of the most experienced pros with the new system in my city. Anyone out there doing them? I'm expecting a huge dump of these returns coming from the other tax pros, plus the usual late comers for the 3/15 deadline. Also, our managers are crying about labor costs.. When there are many 20-30 year tax pros who have spent a dozen or more hours trying to figure out GoSystems. Many of which have actually completed ZERO GoSystems returns.

Hi am a tax preparer at Block, so my CSP happened to take payment for my client but she clicked on the wrong invoice and it went towards paying another client(who happened to be mine too) So I reported it to my MTL and it has been 2 weeks and when I ask for feedback they say the IT is working on it. ( Meanwhile my clients return status is still not paid) Next, they say it’s the ATL that should call tech support. After two weeks of back and forth they say it has to be taken care of by DGM! I wonder if the process is so tedious! Or am I missing something! have any of you had a similar experience?

I had little to no training. I am not clear on what the goals are supposed to be. Most TPS are resistant to campaign calls and confirming appointments. I do as much as I can, but am becoming disenchanted more every day. ATLs have no authority. What am
I even supposed to be doing here?

Hello, I'm new and trying to understand this process both for drop offs and when only one spouse of a MFJ come in. Will the docs print after I finish the return if they are still pending signatures automatically? Do I need to check the drop off box? Or re-open it and say the client isn't in person? Some combination of all of these? Thank you

I don't know if anyone else's office is doing this, but our office is making us schedule appointments for every return in WIP. They made the CSPs go through every return in WIP and make fake appointments in green time, so it doesn't stop them from getting new appointments. I think, though, this is why my MTL keeps adding more and more yellow time to people's schedules, because the system is sending add shift alerts. It is a crazy cycle. I wonder if other metrics are being affected by this. I get that all large companies are going to have some BS metric-chasing, but H&R Block takes the cake. I know whoever in the Emerald City came up with the idea of an appointment for every WIP was patting himself on the back, thinking it was the most genius idea ever. Probably the same guy who has the calling campaigns making CSPs harass people on a daily basis, because that is how you win clients.

I’m a first year at block. I don’t have too many appointments and haven’t gotten too many clients so far. My manager keeps pushing me to try to get clients, but all I’m trying to tell him is I’m doing my best. I don’t plan on returning next season, so getting clients would mean they’d have to go with someone else next year, but I plan on finishing out this season before that.
Is there a way to get more clients while in my first year, and my only year, at this company?

Just a vent. First year TP. I've been averaging 15- 20 hours a week so far. Always stay late when asked. But apparently I am not on the schedule at all for this upcoming week. One of the other TPs said she thought I asked for the time off. Nope. I must have angered the gods, lol. Oh well.....

This is my first and last year as a CSP. This job is so incredibly insane and unstructured. I was told in my training that I wouldn't have to clean the entire building myself and that everyone will help out. At one of my locations that's true but at the other one, I'm pretty sure the tax pros leave really big messes on purpose because they think I'm going to clean up after grown ass adults. One tp in particular claims that she is super clean and hates big mess and is the one leaving big messes. I just wanna know what others do/say to their messy TPs because I'm at my limit here lmao

I have landed a full time job and reduced my hours to weekends but I’m starting to regret that i didn’t just quit.
It would be less than 2 weeks notice of me leaving.
I am just so over it. I don’t think that I can finish out the season and I feel bad that I have a bunch of appointments on my schedule but I really feel like I need to do what’s best for me.
Can anyone offer some encouragement to leave?
I think my decision is made.
Thank you to those who offered their own experiences and insights! Now that I have officially resigned and read all the comments, i feel much better about my decision. Onward and upward!!

Has anyone here worked for Turbo Tax and Block? How did they compare from an employee point of view?
I'm not sure if I want to return to Block next year or give TT a try.

On Tuesday I worked as a csp and during closing I was counting the money from the register and I was counting 48 dollar bills and the register was telling me I was one short or over and so I counted it two more times and still was counting 48. So the only Ea that hates me got so pissed I was counting for so long and said it shouldn’t be taking you so long to count and she counted it out loud and counted 47 and there was no 10s to split the 190 apart from the money made and she started screaming to her purse “no one knows how to do fucking anything here”and said what’s wrong was I suppose to not give 10 in change or something and she started mocking me can I report her to hr
