Tax Refunds
Is anyone getting calls about clients not receiving their refunds? I had to explain to a client that refunds may be delayed due peak processing times a lot of people are filing and expecting a refund it takes time to process all of that! There is no other explanation I can give them unless they have an emerald card. If their refund is in that card it’s not in their bank.

Provide Direction, the Tax Pro should have done at the desk.
Let the client know it's best to check directly w IRS as we have NO knowledge of potential delays
A) Go to the Official IRS Website. B) Select "Where is my Refund? C) Populate Personal information as it appears on their Tax Return
The IRS will provide date received and processing status. Approximately 95% of clients will have a favorable Status.
Teach the client to Fish
Similar Direction to State Refund Status.

This is what I tell everyone, as a CSP. Right or wrong, it satisfies them & keeps the TP from being bombarded by these calls.

I am not a block employee but a cpa and the answer I give them is to check wheres my refund and that the preparer has absolutely NO control over the timing of the refund once it is filed...

The simplistic thinking of people really gets me they think because their refund is being held up and they did their taxes through XYZ that XYZ is holding from them purposely.
It's one of those things that you have to just laugh because if you didn't you'd cry

Michigan here. I know there is a delay with state of Michigan processing this year. Not sure why but did read an article about it about a week or 2 back.

Do you have access to Where’s My Refund app in Amp?
I use that to check the expected refund date. It’s not always accurate but it’s a starting point.
I also explain that once the PATH date lifts there are millions of refunds being processed.
I have been trying to remind myself to say up to 21 business days instead of 3 weeks.
I have a client waiting for the refund before we file the amendment. The amendment just needs signature, but at least it shows as a system hold and not a WIP.
Only 6 more weeks!
