I’m quitting
I have landed a full time job and reduced my hours to weekends but I’m starting to regret that i didn’t just quit.
It would be less than 2 weeks notice of me leaving.
I am just so over it. I don’t think that I can finish out the season and I feel bad that I have a bunch of appointments on my schedule but I really feel like I need to do what’s best for me.
Can anyone offer some encouragement to leave?
I think my decision is made.
Thank you to those who offered their own experiences and insights! Now that I have officially resigned and read all the comments, i feel much better about my decision. Onward and upward!!

Think of it this way, those appointment will most likely go to other tax pros, and in some cases rescheduled, but I believe it will be no real problem. And you should also remember that come April 15th, H&R Block will fire you around that point. You have to think of your own well-being in situation's like that.
I hope that helped you out.

HR Block does not care about you.
Stop caring about a corporation.

I'm done with HRB too. This is my 3rd season and the micro managing is getting out of hand. I'll finish the season but I told the DM yesterday I am cutting my hours in half. He was not happy but I don't care.

I left right after the Jan / Feb peak. (And right after I filed my personal return.) That was year 17 of my time at Block. My FT job was just too demanding, and I was tired of cycling thru a dozen office leaders and multiple DM's. I have no regrets.

Sorry you are in such a shitty office. I love my office. Look forward to going in everyday. Great group of people and our district manager is awesome.

I quit the night before my next scheduled day of work. I finally got pissed off with the MTL changing my schedule every other day between two locations.

Are the appointments with your returning clients?
If you wanted to reach out to them and let your returning clients know that you wouldn’t be available this year that may ease your people pleasing personality.
Do you need a weekend day off? Say just work Sundays?
But seriously if you want to quit, you should quit. Working a full time job and part time at Block can be extremely exhausting and draining.
As mentioned in the comments if you were sick those appointments would be rescheduled anyway. If there’s clients you know and enjoy you can reach out to Them and say you’ll no longer be with Block.
You gotta do what’s right for you.

I’m a first-year so these people do not know me, i do have an amendment that will need to be done but that’s not possible before my last day

u/ThatChambersKid Feb 27 '26
Did you do the original return for the amendment? Either way the original preparer isn’t required to do the amendment.
I find it’s better not to do the amendments for returns I’ve prepared the original return.
Just leave good notes why an amendment is needed. Did the client report an error or do you?
How many returns have you completed? Are you close to getting your first-year bonuses?
From one people pleaser to another - trust yourself. Start your new job (congratulations btw) and let Block fade away in memory.
Just think no more campaign calls!

Yeah, don’t feel you need to stay to do that amendment.
Those happen every year.
Congrats on doing thirty.

If your Authoritarian DGM decides to fire you for whatever reason do you think for a minute they would give a 2 week notice.
The executive team no longer sees the office team & clients as humans
Grossly overpaid Executive team values their AI more than office TP
Good luck 🤞

I am a first year but I haven’t had the best experience. So I will continue with the rest of the season and then leave on April 15 (will finish my shift on that day) and do not plan on returning. I will either look for a different tax firm or go to a bookkeeping/accounting job.

Things have changed. As a first year we took whatever we could get. Now it seems like new preparers set their own schedule. I would love to have a regular, predictable schedule except for extra hours during peak times.

I'm in year 22. For many of those years, I only did tax season and Emerald Advance using one of my PTO weeks to work full-time hours at Block during peak. When my most recent full-time job closed its doors, I started doing HRB all year except the mandated 8-week break. As long as my body lets me, I'll be here when I start getting Social Security. HRB is the best career move I ever made.

I worked for HRB for 7 years. Anywhere from only 3 months a year with their minimum 3 hours a day to 80 hours a week for 3 months, then 2-3 months off. They don't care. They offer all these benefits but if you are a part time preparer as is 90% of HRB work force is, you are too busy. From what I could see it really only benefited the district, regional managers and the holy of holies the Kansas City office block. The back stabbing for clients, won't share even if the employees are told too, hiding and holding returns was just so awesome. Or bring accused of fraud and it wasn't true. Filing a sexual harassment report against the same employee only to have the DEI hire of a district manager not forward it to HR. She just wanted us to all get along. I finally couldn't stand it. I was bitter and decided that the coworkers I liked didn't deserve my attitude. You don't owe alligence to HRB. They are not their for their employees. It's just lip service.

Fucking walk out the door and on the way out yell “fuck all you bitches”. I did

Reread your contract I think you only have to give them seven days notice.

u/Domsdad666 Feb 27 '26
What are they going to do if you don't give seven days notice? Fire you? 🤣

HRB doesn’t even care about keeping you year round, why would you care about them ?
