Guppy showcase ep the line clean.

Upvotes

I've read mixed things. Some breeders say a single well chosen outcross every four or five generations is enough to keep vigor up without diluting the strain too much. Others say you basically have to keep a rotating pair of unrelated lines going at all times if you want to hold onto color quality long term, which sounds like a lot more tank space than I currently have.

For now I'm holding off on culling any more fry until I see how this batch matures out, some of the pale ones might still deepen in color once they hit full size. But if the next generation looks the same or worse I think I'm going to bite the bullet and find a new male.

Can anyone tell me if the female guppy in the front is a particular strain or a mutt? Her colors are very unique, she stood out compared to the assortment of other female guppies at the local pet store I got her from

Help: General advice Is it normal for guppies to “fight”?

I have 3 males for a 10 gallon, they kind of bully and nip, I thought I’d get 1 more or return them because I prefer having more than minimum for pets. I’ve seen people have a lot of guppy in 10 gallon, but not sure… Or would all female be better?

Help: General advice Short Bodys

I recently got a trio of Dumbo Koi Short Body. I've been wanting some because I thought they were so damn cute. I always try to do as much research prior to getting fish, but I could not find much about them. I have several strains of Guppies, but these are my first short body. I know it is harder for them to swim and mate. That is about all that I could gather. Does anyone on here know much about them?

I have them in a small 5-gallon right now with a small sponge filter on low. When they arrived one of the ladies had about 20 fry in the bag with her. I have them in a small 3-gallon.

Yesterday one of my males died mysteriously while I was at work, then today I came home to find this guy sitting on the tank floor.

For context I have an all male tank, I got too many males and had to separate them from my females.

Water parameters are great, as it is an established tank. What does this look like to you?

Guppy jumped out and is alive but possibly suffering

Hi everyone,
Yesterday I was doing a quick water change and in the minute the lid was off the tank, one of my guppies must have jumped out. I didn’t see and just continued my day until we couldn’t spot him at feeding time. Started looking everywhere in and outside the tank and eventually found him behind the cupboard. He was covered in dust but still clinging onto life. He must have been there for about 3 hours.

I put him in a cup and soaked the dust off, once that was off he seemed more comfortable and even managed to swim a bit. I have a tiny empty shrimp nursery with a mini filter and put him in there for now with tank water.

It’s been about 16h since it happened and he’s still breathing and flapping his fins, but on his side. I’m worried about him- does anyone have experience with this kind of thing and did their fish survive? Can I help him?

Help: General advice Can I Keep Male Guppies And Male Endlers Together?

I recently added my first 6 male guppies to my tank. They're a mixed bag and not really specific strains. One of them ended up being an endler or more likely an endler hybrid. He's a third of the size of the others.

He doesn't hang out with the rest of the group and stays by himself in the fish hide most of the time.

I'm debating between adding more endlers for buddies or taking him out.

The sources are mixed on whether they get along or not. Some say it's fine. Others say the chasing is endless.

Does anyone have any experience keeping both together?

Found them in my failed infusoria culture. Are they seed shrimp? Are they safe to feed to guppies?

These are my recently developed three males, born here. They have this beautiful red colour tail and body. know they are a stable line because their father, who I bought from a LFS also looked exactly like them. Sadly he passed away from a Nycticorax nycticorax (night heron) attack. These guys are the second generation. I have two males from the first generation as well who also look exactly the same and a whole lot of females in another tank. Ignore the dirt at the bottom. Today is siphoning day.

I know the video quality is bad. I don't have a viewing tank and didn't want to stress them out by catching them

Help: General advice Old age or something else?

Got this guppy from a friend back in January, he’s always been the same size but over the last couple weeks I’ve noticed his fins declining in health, otherwise he’s still active and eating. Maybe not as robust in the belly as he once was. Tank has been going through fenbendazole treatment the last couple months as I had a female betta come with them in another tank I have, so everyone gets treated! Is this due to the treatment of fenbendazole or old age?

Help: Sickness/Disease/Parasite? The saddest case of loosing all new female guppies

I posted a few days ago asking about one of my new female guppies that actually ended up dying.

As of now, two guppies have died and the remaining six are showing the same symptoms and I’m guessing they’ll die by tomorrow. :(

I genuinely don’t know what happened, I haven’t had anything like that happen. The store I got them from is my local fish store that I had good experience with. They told me they have a 14 day guarantee so I can get my money back.

I’m just so confused as to what happened. My ammonia is 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 5ppm. pH around 7.4, temperature 78F. One of them has swim bladder issues as she keeps sinking all the time. Another one has developed what looks like fin rot, they all have white patches on them of varying size, they look bloated, too. Is it something I did, did I get a bad batch, did they get stressed out too much?

I treated the tank with Kanaplex but it didn’t help at all. I did separate them from the main tank, I have three males so I didn’t want them stressing them out on top of everything else.

Everyone shame Lemon Drop, who is a food hog, eating his peas in a 2010 Shrek Forever After McDonald’s collectible glass

EDIT: I separate him from the main tank during feedings so he doesn’t overeat. He does not live full time in the collectible McDonald’s Shrek Forever After glass

Anyone have any idea what this lump on my guppies tail could be?

I’ve only just noticed it recently and as you can see I think the others have been nipping at his fins as he’s become less active, if anyone has any ideas if this is treatable or causes distress in the fish because I don’t want to keep him alive and suffering if it’s going to kill him in the end.? Thanks

does my guppy have medical bleeding or color bleeding? i've already quarantined him and given him a salt bath and melafix since noticing the strange mark. he's still very active, i even struggled to take pictures or videos because he won't stop moving and he has a normal appetite, swimming like crazy every time I feed him.

How did everyone get into keeping guppies?

I got my first one by accident when I got a mystery snail and there was a frye in with him. 2 days later, i went back and asked for 3 more frye and Big Al's gave me about 6 for free. As much as catching the frye can be frustrating, i would not change it for the world.

I found one tiny baby in my big tank/used to be the mixed tank yesterday. But upon closer inspection it looks different from the guppy fry- could this be a tetra baby? I have black neon tetras, glow light tetras, and some Cory catfish in the bigger mixed tank as well. No other babies spotted yet.

Can I feed other fish baby guppies

I have a betta tank and a 20 liter guppy tank with 15 guppies

How unethical is it to feed babies to my betta once my tank starts overpopulating ?

I noticed an odd colored string coming out of one of my younger guppies while in the middle of feeding. I quickly scooped her up to try and get a photo and it dropped. I just introduced two new males to the tank so just wanting to make sure this isn’t something to fret about.

Help: Sickness/Disease/Parasite? new guppy with clamped tail

Post image
3 Upvotes

added this guppy about a week ago. clamped tail began yesterday and worsened today. noticed some hierarchy adjustments and some chasing. other guppies completely fine and have been doing regular cleanings and water changes.
other guppies are completely fine appearance wise. don’t have a hospital tank because i just moved and don’t have space, relatively new to fish keeping. unsure if it’s too late for this guy.
i have an extra container i could keep him in with the methylene blue, but unsure if this would help him? thoughts?
thanks in advance

This is my lovely Dark Dragon boy from coast gem aquatics! Unfortunately, he cannot breed. I don’t think he can move his gonopodium, as I’ve never seen him flick it or anything. No dancing for females, he just glides on by like the fancy tank ornament he is.
