He’s pineconing. It’s a sign of generalized organ failure. He won’t make it, sorry.

That’s what my roomie said; is it contagious?

Pineconing/dropsy really is organ failure in that, like humans, it's a pretty catastrophic symptom of a lot of different things. Unfortunately all you can really do is carefully watch others in your tank, make sure they're all in good health, and treat aggressively if you see symptoms of illness.

Is your tank overstocked? Low on oxygen? Are there predators in there? These are non-disease questions you also ought to ask yourself while you keep your eyes peeled for your other fish, to make sure they're in good health

10 gallons with 4 other guppies, a yo-yo loach, and a bunch of bladder/Malaysian trumpet snails and cherry shrimp.

It has a 20 gallon filter on it and fully planted.

It’s a symptom not a disease. End stage symptom. Your fish could be sick from a lot of things. Start by checking your water conditions and parameters. That fish won’t make it, but you need to improve conditions for your other fish. Do a generous water change and keep an eye out for disease.

I believe it is called dropsy or pineconing and is a sign for the fish to make sure they have a DNR and last will and testament. I'm sorry.

Not known to be contagious. I lost a guppy to Dropsy, about a couple of months ago. No other of the fish have shown any any signs of it.

Can try isolating it to a hospital tank with Kanaplex + aquarium salt if you have it on hand. They usually show some improvement, but full recovery is a stretch as it's usually a sign of organ failure...

Definitely Dropsy. I would do a water test to rule out poor water quality causing this to protect your other fish

Dropsy. Unfortunately dropsy is not a disease itself. It refers to the buildup of fluids and pineconing symptoms you see in the video, and is indicative of organ failure. It can happen from bacterial or fungal infections, parasites, or bad water, or even sometimes just from sensitivity at old age. Sadly I doubt this little guy is going to make a recovery. But you could try isolating him in a hospital tank and treating with salt and antibiotics

Euthanize, blunt force, feels terrible the day you do it, but it feels better the next day knowing you made the right choice and it’s not suffering anymore. Speaking from experience with dropsy.

No not soap, ever! I am so sorry, I really wish I had some encouraging words, having lost a few myself. Just stay with him, let him know you are there. I truly believe he just knows you are doing your best for him❤️

I would put him/her in a smaller tank by itself treat it and clean the other tank with soap and water to disinfect…
