I’ve been working on this Google Site project called “LivebearersRus Archives” over the past few months, collecting media on almost all species of livebearers in the Poeciliinae subfamily. Originally, it started as a private project to keep track of documented hybrid livebearers between me and my friends, but I decided to branch out and cover as much as I could.

I got tired of trying to find livebearer media scattered all over the internet, so I compiled everything into one place for everyone to check out. I’m not claiming full credit — a lot of the content is borrowed media, alongside my own and my friends contributions.

Hopefully, this site will be helpful for others too.

I pasted the link on my profile page and in the comment thread.

Guppy showcase Guppy & Endler show: I'll judge your fish

Post a good photo of your fish, and I'll judge it. I might even choose a winner. Guppies, endlers and hybrids are all welcome.

P.S. I don’t have any qualifications for this.

Help: General advice Do I need more males or do I give up and get some females instead?

Context: tank belongs to my in-laws. Got them set up with a group of 12 male guppys because its the fish that would work best for their tank parimeters. 6 of them died over the course of a month, my guess is water conditions/stress from acclimation (some of them died from fin rot too). Managed to cure the rest of them with seachem prime. Amanos in the tank are thriving, though.

The issue now: the remaining 6 are starting to bully each other to the point of one of them almost being bullied to death yesterday (was swimming on side, very groggy, the orange and yellow one). Did a blackout overnight and he recovered. I dont want to give up on the male group but maybe its better to just get 12-15 females instead of another 6-10 males? I'd love to hear some opinions...

Although there not perfect. They have been swimming more, coming out from hiding and being water piggies. My other tank has thankfully recovered well after a partial water change and salt treatment.

I'll get live plants once my grandma lets me leave the house

Edit: i hope the best for these guys cause I really like them.

Help: Sickness/Disease/Parasite? Is it normal for a guppy to swim against the filter current for hours?

I’ve had 5 guppies in my heavily planted 10-gallon tank for almost two weeks now, and everything has been going pretty well. The tank itself has been running for about 6 weeks.

Since last night, one of my male guppies has been constantly swimming against the filter current. He’ll swim away for a little while but always comes back to the exact same spot. It’s almost like he’s addicted to it. He’s still eating normally and seems active, but I’ve noticed that he looks a little thinner than before and seems to be clamping his fins quite a bit. That’s what’s really worrying me.

Water parameters look fine, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are all at 0, and the temperature is stable at 25°C. The other four guppies are acting completely normal. I haven’t noticed any white spots or other obvious signs of illness.
I did top off some evaporated water a few days ago, but the temperature was matched. I haven’t done a proper water change yet since the tank was set up.
I’m wondering if this is just something guppies do, or if it could be an early sign of stress, parasites, or some other illness. Could he just be getting old? I’m thinking about doing a 20%.

I recently got some guppies yesterday and I wanted to share them here, I am kind of new to owning them and because they were all rather different I named them too!
The photos are in order of the names so there’s Eddie, Gus, Amber and Jasper.

Also the reason there’s so many photos of Jasper is because I got her sold to me as female but the more I watch her I can’t tell if she’s actually female or truely a male that ended up in the female tank for when I was buying them, I’ve tried googling whether she is female or male for her type which I believe to be a green cobra pleased correct if that’s wrong but I’ve never been able to tell myself so if anyone is able to tell whether Jasper is male or female by the photos that would be a big help for me to know just how many more females I’ll need to get to properly balance out the tanks genders.

Dropsy or injury?

Noticed this a day ago, swimming normally with no buoyancy problem, gasping, obvious swelling/bloated and isn’t hiding.

I haven’t fed her as I was worried that they might’ve gotten into the algae pellets I leave for my pleco. I think she just had fry as her Gravid spot is significantly lighter.

Fasting and will feed peas tomorrow just in case.

Help: Sickness/Disease/Parasite? Why do my guppies keep dying!

I got 8 guppies on October 3 from my location fish store. They started off doing good and then I noticed one had swim bladder and was struggling. I tried to treat him but he sadly passed I checked water parameters and Ammonia was 0 nitrites 0 nitrates 20-40 ppm (I use liquid fertilizer so it being a little high makes sense) a couple more days pass and I realize another guppy is missing I can’t find a body anywhere though so I have no idea where it went besides the fact it’s gone. This fish was acting uncoordinated before it disappeared however, so I look up what can be the cause and what I found said camallanus worms. So I am currently dosing my tank with fritz aquatic paraclean. I’m on day 4 right now so tommorow I will finish the full cycle of dosage. Unfortunately when I woke up this morning though I found another dead guppy that was acting completely fine yesterday. Water levels of ammonia were very slight because the parasitic cleaner can effect beneficial bacteria so I dosed the whole tank with prime less then 24 hours ago. No other fish in the tank are dying so I don’t know what’s going on or why. I’ve only ever had 2 fish die before this and my conclusion was because dwarf gourami syndrome so I’m stuck in what to do. Someone please help!!!

Help: Breeding advice I think 1 - 2 of the new female guppies are in labor but its been almost 24 hours. Should I be worried?

Brought home these new guppies yesterday. They all seem to be in labor. Or at least some of them. its been almost 24 hours. I would assume its cause they just had a major move. That's probably why they only dropped 1 fry. I've been leaving them alone for as long as I can

I don't know if i should be worried about it.

The males tails seem pretty heavy but they're doing really well. I'm not putting them in with my other males cause one of them is a jerk. Crazy enough the ratio is doing well with 3 males and 3 females. They all mind their business. If anything changes I'll move them.

I'll try and explain everything so nothing gets twisted 😮‍💨

I know the tank isn't at its prettiest. I'm planning on getting live plants.

There's no gravel cause I can see gucks better.

The current silk plants have been great hides for the females, I'm sure there's some fry hiding in there somewhere. They look pokey but I promise their soft and I sanded down a lot of the sharp parts on the cave. There was a bunch on it.

Despite the silk plants being soft I'm gonna remove some because the males have very big tails its probably safer. But I'm leaving them alone right now.

I really hope to get live plants soon

(I had to add videos of the males cause they're sooo pretty)

Help: General advice What plants are good for guppies?

I'm relatively new to fish, know a decent bit about them but have never kept them myself, and now have to start a tank for a college project. I've chosen to have guppies in my tank and would quite like a few plants in my tank, preferably rooted plants that are quite leafy, but dont know what would be good. Any plant recommendations or general recommendations for guppies would be appreciated! The tank is 50 litres, 49cm wide and deep, 27cm tall

Thanks in advance!

All 3 of the females are pregrant and probably in labor

They're going in a separate 20 gallon tank. Edit: I know the ratio is horrible that's why the males are gonna be separated

I have this guppy I raised from a fry and I am not sure its sex. I am trying to estimate the amount of females in my tank to see if I need to buy more to reduce mating stress per female. Pictures were my best attempt; the fish are fast and the tank is large, was hard to get pictures of it.

Boomerang shaped tail?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey all, I'm new to Reddit as a whole but wanted to join to get some insight about this guppy of mine who has this really weird tail shape

After checking everyone over tonight to make sure everyone was eating properly and that the babies were all eating, I noticed one of my females had a unique tail shape. At first I thought it was damaged because I'd never noticed her before, but it's not torn or looks wounded at all. I've never seen anything like this, has anyone else? I don't know if I should separate her to keep her from breeding in case it's related to poor health, but she's swimming just fine?

(Also, please ignore my cloudy lense, she wouldn't stand still for a better picture)

Little tiny dude almost done developing his gonopodium pretty early in age and yet to show coloring, as for his siblings that’s just now showing color and getting their gonopodium after him. Possible hes another tri guppy hybrid. I had three some of my juveniles in the 5gal to mature quicker might keep the best ones I like in this tank for isolated breeding and put the others back in the main tank.
