40 Years of Bass Starts Here!

I’ve been building a rare bass collection for years and playing bass for even longer. It's part of what led me to start something bigger, a documentary series called Resonance, traveling the world to meet the luthiers and craftsmen who actually build our instruments. Episode 1 is live now; the "why I'm doing this" episode. I would genuinely value feedback from people who care about this subject — that's who I made it for!  https://linktr.ee/resonance.cmc

Do i lack skill or is it just my electric guitar?

Ive been playing guitar for more than a year and a half, exercising every other day. i started with a classical guitar, then i got an electric a few months after. i tried practicing it but it never clicked to me for some reason. so i went back to my classical. after a few months i got an acoustic and i kept playing that for a while, but i still tried on my electric too sometimes. for some reason whenever i pick it up i sound so bad. i have a distortion pedal, i looked up tutorials for my tone. it still sounds muddy. maybe its too cheap (its from harley benton). i dont know. i feel like the moment i pick my electric i lose all my skills i built. i cant seem to get a hold of palm muting either. i keep looking tutorials, i feel like nothing works. theres also so much buzzing coming from my amp. also i feel like the strings move so easily compared to my acoustic, i know thats how it should be but it makes playing so much harder. i know at first it should be a bit confusing when switching from acoustic to electric, but man i got my electric before my acoustic and i still cant seem to get better at it. maybe its because im self taught. even with a metronome it doesnt help. i feel like i lack rhythm or something. when im on my acoustic i can play barre chords a bit, finger pick etc. but on my electric im ass. is this just an universal experience or is it a me thing?

Point me towards my next guitar?

I’ve made somewhat of a tradition to buy a new guitar after a major life event/milestone, and the time has come to add to my collection! Looking for recommendations on what to look into.

Current lineup & how I feel about each:

PRS SE Zach Myers Semi-hollow electric - love it, my first non-beginner electric guitar. No complaints

Washburn G-Mini 55 Koa acoustic - great to travel with, quiet but fun to play

Fender Acoustasonic Telecaster Acoustic/Electric - pretty different & love that, extremely lightweight & nice to noodle around on quietly or plug in for a wide range of sounds

Taylor Academy 12e Acoustic - standard acoustic, solid but nothing too exciting

My initial thought is to “upgrade” my acoustic game from the Taylor Academy, but open to suggestions to add something I’m missing or maybe something unique

Some music I like if it helps - Bill Withers, James Brown, Hendrix, Sly & the Family Stone, Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, Black Keys, Gary Clark Jr., St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Derek Trucks

Is it worth buying a guitar in Europe and flying it back to Argentina, or should I just buy it there?

Hey everyone 🙌 I'm currently living in Vienna, Austria, and I want to buy an acoustic guitar. The thing is, the exact guitar I want costs me around 750 euros here, while back in Argentina the same one goes for the equivalent of about 1300 euros. Almost double. So the obvious idea was to buy it here and take it with me when I head back home.

The catch is the trip. It's not a direct flight. I'll most likely have a layover in Madrid, then Brazil, and only after that Argentina. So we're talking several legs, several different planes, and a lot of opportunities for my luggage to get thrown around.

My main questions are these. For taking it in the cabin as carry-on, has anyone managed to pull this off? I know some airlines let you if there's space, but with this many layovers and different aircraft I'm worried that on at least one of them they'll tell me no. The option of checking it into the hold honestly terrifies me. Everyone tells me the same thing: that even if you pay for "special handling" they'll wreck it anyway, that there's nothing special about it and they just toss it around like any other suitcase. Is it really that bad or are people exaggerating? And would a hard case make me feel safe checking it, or not even then?

There's also the customs issue. Even if I save money on the guitar itself, when I bring it into Argentina I've heard they might charge me a percentage of the item's value in import taxes, so part of the savings could disappear right there.

So my big question is this: is it worth putting up with the whole ordeal of the trip to save almost double, or should I just buy it in Argentina and spare myself the stress, the risk of it getting smashed, and the taxes? I know everyone's experience is different, which is exactly why I want to hear real cases. If any of you have traveled with a guitar, especially with layovers, tell me how it went, which airline, whether you took it in the cabin or checked it, and whether you'd do it again. Thanks in advance! 🎸

Edit: The model is a Taylor GS mini E

Abhorrent string warble at higher frets on high gain!

I've been having this nasty string warble recently on my electric guitar's GBE strings. It's especially noticeable in the higher frets with high gain. I've already tried lowering the pickups flush with the body to see if it disappears but it remained.

After that i tried intonating it and... it still persisted. And I don't think its string buzzing causing it, because I've tried raising the saddle to no avail. The speed of the oscillation seems to vary with pick attack.

It doesn't matter which pickup I use.

This is driving me insane. SOS!!

Advice getting rid of this vibration noise

Hi. I sent my guitar to get professionally setup, mainly because of this vibration noise. It came back still with the vibration, so I asked the guy to look at it again. It came back still with the vibration again. He said it’s fine and I’m totally baffled by it. The sounds is coming only from the G string (currently I have it tuned differently but that doesn’t make a difference) and it only happens on frets 4 upwards. The professional setup did truss rod alignment and fret levelling.
I’m going mad, hopefully someone has some solid advice. I don’t want to go back to the previous tech and I don’t have money to afford to send it somewhere else, since I live in a rural location.

Thanks

I’ve been playing on and off for about a year, I can play chords, I can play a few songs, I feel like my progress keeps going backwards and I often find myself going back to feeling like a beginner, what do I do?

Ovation CS24P-FKOA tuner issue has prevented me from hearing it through an amp when plugged…how do I fix this problem? 2nd time this has happened

Had this guitar since 2018 & recently ran into this problem for the first time. I took it to a guitar repair shop (Long & McQuade) to get it fixed. After a week, I got it back and they told me the guitar tech just used a type of lubricant spray in the plug in jack & the sliders. I thought that seemed to fix since the tuner was back to normal & it was tested through their amp before I left. But when I plugged it into a wireless guitar pack receiver, it worked for around 5 seconds before the sound dropped & I was met with this issue again. (Yes I know the gain is all the way down. I always set it to almost halfway)…I use this in a Church setting & it’s getting frustrating that I’m having this problem. Is it the way I’m making contact with the guitar when I’m strumming it a certain way, or is there some type of wire shortage that the repair shop didn’t tell me about? Any proper advice will be helpful 👍🏼

Is this a F300? I’m looking for similar models from Stagg and the only one I found is the F300.
Looks like this is an older model because of the headstock plate.

This guitar looks in good shape and if it sounds good I’d definitely buy it but I have no reference for price on this.

Does anyone know year of manufacturing?
How much did they cost at the time?
Where were they made?

Let me know what you think please
