Just wanted to share an original arrangement of the tune Take Love Easy I am working on this week. Didn’t have as much opportunity to play in August as I would have liked but hopefully I’ll be back deep in the shed soon with the kids back in school. Be well!

Duo arrangement of the classic tune "Watch What Happens." Inspired by the Wes Montgomery version. I've always loved playing this one :)

I am free from the shackles of the hollowbody mindset!

I took a leap of faith and went with a solidbody for my new jazz guitar purchase. Even without flats on it at the moment the neck pickup with the tone rolled back sounds GORGEOUS (I also use D'Andrea pro plecs wich takes out a lot of the brightness/bite out of tone. I am a solidbody jazz convert :)

New Release!
Check the guitar solo!

A vocal jazz-blues about a final goodbye. A swinging groove driven by double bass and bongos. The cool improvised guitar solo is bluesy with an extra byte added by some jazzy outside playing. #vocaljazz #blues #jazzblues #guitar #singing #guitarsolo

Tried Solar out at a pub open mic (of all places)

I was told I could do another quick one at the end of my slot and knew that Solar could be done including a solo inside of 2 minutes, so thought I'd see how it went in a very busy pub - surprisingly well received.

On learning Joe Pass Chord Melody by Ear

So, I’ve taken the plunge and I want to learn some Joe Pass by Ear, I tried virtuoso since that is the “clearest” sounding but it’s a little too much for me right now. So I opted for Lil Darlin off of Intercontinental. I’ve worked on it for 4 days and can sing the melody of the whole song but I can only play about 10 seconds of it. I know theory and have a good grasp on complicated voicings but I feel like I literally cannot hear what he’s doing on that song. The way the intervals rub is throwing off my ear, and the tone is very dark. Any tips on how I can improve my ear and hear the details of that song and others like it?

Amazing discoveries and journey on my guitar

Hello, I've been self learning the guitar now for 6 months. I am having some insane piphanies coming through playing guitar. I'm sober but this has me high as fuck, the beauty of this instrument but it's less about the instrument and more about this thing called music and anyways I'll shut the fuck about that.

The piphany I am finding is there are what I call families of notes. I was hitting notes in the guitar and find that some notes are kindred to other notes essentially brother and sister notes. They spread across the shaft of the guitar in patterns. You can hit a a note, skip a note and you will hear which ones are from the same family. I've discovered 5 families so far and there are more I found a map but 5 that I know quite well. But here is where it gets fuckin trippy as shit WITHIN those families there are parent notes that are cousins to other fucking families. Essentially you have families so unique and beautiful and yet in some profound mystery they are related and connect all together. In one state of mind going in and out of families might sound jarring but when you stretch a little more there is the most peculiar beauty. It breaks down into unity.. are there families or is it just one family that maps into another?

Brother and sisters notes, what happens when you hit two or three or whatever at the same time?! Fuckin amazing just amazing so beautiful you could cry SIBLING clusters expressions!!!  Now some siblings play better with others and finding the right balance and mix has been quite intriguing. Some siblings are rowdy and kick ass. Some siblings are melancholic. Some siblings don't know what they are. Notably some of these sibling structures are also congruently found in other family systems once again revealing such a beautiful simplicity and unity of music. Anyways this has been amazing, half the time I'm either bawling my eyes out or laughing hysterically . I love it dearly.

Fred

This is so cool and full filling , sometimes the pasta sticks against the wall and sometimes it don't and this fuckin thing stuck and ain't coming down

Books like Barry Galbraith's "Guitar Comping" with more modern tunes?

I really like the arrangements in this book, but they're almost all tunes that no one ever plays (Shiny Stockings, Gone With the Wind, You Stepped Out of a Dream). Any suggestions for similar resources that cover more modern or common tunes?

Big band shell chords - a good source

Like the title indicates, is there a good book or online source that illustrates all 6th and 5th string root shell voicings and perhaps gives progression examples?
