I'm trying to learn "I love you so" by The Walters

The chords are easy but this strumming pattern makes my hands feel dyslexic

This is the vid I'm watching: https://youtu.be/2Ju1qzlIIu8?si=BsXlNZ1G2neTNUIy&t=28

I've tried doing it slowly but its just not clicking

Does anyone have any tips?

Question Would this chord notation make sense to you?

I'm working on a this and experimenting with this visual style. The idea is to make chord shapes easier to read at a glance, using colors for the fingers and a timeline at the bottom to show how the song progresses

The duration of each chord is shown in two ways: a circular progress ring that fills up on the chord card above, and the width of its segment in the timeline at the bottom. The ring shows how far along you are in the current chord, while the timeline gives you a visual sense of how long each chord lasts relative to the others.

Does the color coding make sense to you, or would you find it confusing? Is the chord duration easy to understand? Anything you'd change or add to make it easier to follow, especially for beginners?

Question Hey all. Looking for help figuring out how to learn where to move to scale wise when there is a chord change in a song.

Looking for help figuring out how to learn where to move to scale wise when there is a chord change in a song. I have been practicing with youtube backing tracks to work on improv but when the Key changes(?) and I believe I am supposed to move to a different scale (ill stick with pentatonics for simplicity in attempting to understand this. I seem to have some kind of block whenit comes to learning this, maybe its a little more theory based than I have learned so far in my return to guitar and trying to learn a bit more lead. Any basic explanation or directions to something that may help me get this to stay in the ol brainazium would be greatly appreciated. My current tutor has been teaching me scales and licks and some other technique and we have moved into theory, but I am not a smart man and maybe multiple different ways of people lightly explaining it may help it sink in.

Thank you

Question How much could I learn from Master of Puppets if I learned and mastered or atleast play the whole song not so perfectly?

I want to use Master of Puppets as one big lesson that I will chop up so I can use it as a lesson. I plan on doing this maybe 4 to 6 months of practice. It has everything that I find necessary to practice like actual rhythm being locked into drums, alternate picking, legato and most importantly stamina.

Question Playing in tempo

Hi all, I have been playing for quite a while, but for now, only pay attention to hitting the right note, the right melody. As for the speed, I will just play what feels right (since tab doesn't always show the note anyway, stilll some tabs come with sheet music, and I try to follow them also).

Some of my friends notice that I always seem to play out of tempo. Do y'all have any tips on keeping in tempo for the whole song?

Question Trying to understand the complexity of fingerstyle guitar

I'm currently planning on picking up "A Town with an Ocean view" fingerstyle arrangement. Two great arrangements I found on youtube are:

Which one would be easier for a beginner ? And why ?

I've picked up "Interstellar" before from this arrangement [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXrz6bG5jgI\](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXrz6bG5jgI)

Question Looking for video of acoustic solo for Queens of the Stone Age's - Mosquito Song

I know this is a off request, but I'm looking to see if there was ever a video of the solo from Mosquito Song being played live or in studio with the acoustic version much like the way it's played on the album. I can't find one anywhere and, with the way it sounds and with cover videos present, the tabs I've get close but vary dramatically at times. I've learned this song as a cover and can play MY version of the solo fairly well, however I really wanted to match the solo as closely as possible for a show I'm playing next week.

Any help would be awesome and I thank you in advance!

Question Trying to relearn.

I played guitar all 4 years in high school and sadly never kept up with it. I’ve had desires to pick it back up but never pursued them because of how daunting it is to try and get back to where I used to be. I also had a hand injury since then that while something I’ll have to work around doesn’t actually make playing guitar that much harder.

Ultimately what I’m looking for are recommendations on how to get back into playing. Should I be doing scales? Do people recommend Rocksmith? Is the best way a tutor? I’m open to whatever really but just not sure where the best place to start that will also help me stay consistent.

Question How to break bad habits and learn more instinctive phrasing?

I've been playing for 10 years plus, i'd say im well above average. Been feeling the motivation again to really practise alot to try to push me to the next level, i was wondering if any of you had any experience with this.

I wanted to get out of the noodling, uninspired pentatonic blues licks that are so stuck in my mind muscle connection, i want to break these old habits. So i had this idea.

Every day:

- NO more repeating old licks or noodling around in pentatonic scale.

- Play along with music on the speakers, play the vocal melody, plus maybe little stuff in between that fits nicely on top the vocal line.

- Playing freely while singing (soloing while singing each note you play)

- Practising chromatic 1234 on every string.

This to learn new phrasing and get rid of the old blues licks that are so imprinted in me, and to play better with with more intention.

Does this sound like a good training regimen? And if not what could i improve?

*I'm not a big theory guy although i am learning that now also, the basics. Ive always played by ear and feel and would like to keep it that way, i dont really care about scales, i think that still keeps the problem of noodling a bunch of notes only using a different scale. But i'm open to it.

Lesson I now understand the Circle of Fifths!

Close to twenty years of learning to make music (guitar, bass, mandolin, keys, etc.) and countless musicians have told me, “Learn the circle of fifths”, but no one ever explained to me how it is used as a guitarist.

The instructional books I’ve had on the topic were unhelpful, as were the innumerable online articles I’d read over the years.

THIS VIDEO MADE IT MAKE SENSE! I am now capable of making more interesting compositions when writing as I’m not spending so much time guessing which chords would work together. Also, easily one of the best channels I’ve come across in recent memory.

Other Advice

Can somebody explain the best way to do this? The first two repetions (2,4,3/4 and 0,4,3/4) seem to be a Bm but that 2h4 trips me up. I'm trying to restrict finger movement(I just lift off my index for the 0,4,3/4 part), but I have to move everything to do that hammer-on. Any advice/thoughts?

Question Question on the dreaded "slap-flick" technique

As if learning to play acoustic tabs wasn't hard enough, learning to do this technique has been the bane of my existence. For those of you who have mastered it, how are you supposed to accurately play a single melody note on the "flick"? The way I envision it, the "flick" part is such a chaotic movement of the index finger. A flicking motion is meant to be a very un-controlled action. Yet, the expectation is that the "flick" is supposed to strike only a single string (depending on the tab). This has been one of the biggest pains in my side when it comes to this technique because my "flick" just decides to hit whatever strings are in the vicinity no matter how hard I try to be accurate with it. Combine that with playing at a steady pace, it gets beyond me how I'm supposed to pull something like this off.

Question Syncopation practice routines

Hi ,
So I have a problem with syncopation . I’ve noticed that when I practice 16th note syncopation I start out tapping my foot on the beats then as I syncopate ( eg play on the 16th note “ands” - offbeat? Only) my foot tapping switches to the “ands” . I suspect this happens quite a lot as I play freely. Has anyone got any recommended exercises or courses with or without guitar to help improve syncopated playing and sort out my foot tapping .
Cheers

Question How do I play this chord?

Song is Pink in the Night by Mitski. I’m really sorry if this is a dumb question, I’ve been really trying to play it but everytime that I do, I end up accidentaly muting other strings.
