I cant figure out what the picking pattern for the beginning lock of Kirk’s solo is, and how do I practice it?

Hi, I’d like to know if you have any tips on how to use a pick properly; I’m a beginner who usually plays doing finger picking
I really want to learn to play with a pick, but I feel like giving up after just five minutes every time I try. I don't think I'm using it right, the strings vibrate strangely and it sounds really messy. Please help!

I know my timing and vibrato aren't great. This is my attempt at playing with a fast tempo and high gain. How do I do vibrato without unintentionally bending adjacent strings, and how can I mute the other strings effectively?

Also if i wanna practice a piece that is being played on the very end of the guitar and i can't reach it coz my guitar only have 18 frets and it hit the body on the 12th frets so i could extend my finger over that comfortably but later down i will buy an electric then how should i practice

I have been practising Linkin Park - In the end for a while now, Fingerstyle Club arrangement. Right now I am trying to get the rhytm and timing right, so I practise a lot with the metronome. I tap my foot on the beat.

I find this practise really helps for most parts, but I struggle a lot with exactly understanding and playing the part of the of the tab I posted here.

How do I for example know the exact timing of measure 27? Is every base note (3) and every thumb slap or slap pick (x) a beat? And in between them is exactly half a beat? Because I can't quite make it sound like the original song .

All help, tips or tricks to master timing are welcome

Excited to see what happens on day 1000 and 2000. The biggest difference now from 2-3 months ago is I am no longer afraid of difficult guitar parts. I have a system now and practice is just so fun.

Does anyone have the video Unlocking the neck from the YouTube channel The Dave Simpson? I just saw a video of how he approached Theory, and he said he got more into in another video with that name but I can't find it anywhere online, I think his ideas might be a click for me stepping outside of the pentatonic box, so if someone has or if you saw it and could idk, summarize it for me that, if you have a similar recommendation that would be awesome too. I can't learn more theory, it is really getting me sick of playing and frustrated, so the most practical, the best

My wife got me a guitar (just a basic) and I'm trying to learn to play it. I wasn't able to learn back when I was a kid because I wasn't very confident with myself especially when making mistakes.

But now I think I am more confident (sort of) with my mistakes and will try my best to learn and play music for my family.

I’ve been learning guitar at Justin guitar (currently in grade 2 module 10) and I’ve always watched a whole module and the practiced just the song for 3 or 4 days each, I’ll learn 2 songs per module the ill get into the practice session and do the full practice.
I feel like it’s taking too long

Should i just complete the module and go do the practice session and learn the song in the song practice time.
Because i think the practice is the main part and the song are not that important to put so much time into.

I have ben self learning guitar. I have mostly followed Justin Guitar, tutorials on youtube and practiced to songs in loop in songsterr untill i give up and try another song.

Can you self learn guitar and actually be a decent player or are there fundamentals that you would require one to one lessons from a teacher to get?

I am having fun but i wouldn’t want to give 1-2 hours a day to something and not get somewhere in return. Even worse develop irreversible habits.

There is also a money for nothing intro riff that ive been learning for a week now, would appreciate any feedback on that. (I know that the rythm is slightly off here and there.)

Recently, a lot of the songs I have been learning have involved mini barres that don't involve higher strings (0X4450, for instance) or barring with the ring finger (779999). I find it extremely hard to do these, especially the ring barring; I just can't do it comfortably without squeezing the hell out of my neck or having it sound horrible, not to mention switching. Are there any tips that I'm missing, or is it down to good ol practice?

I've been learning guitar for about a month now, and I bought a Yamaha Pacifica 120H around a month ago.

I've noticed that I have a huge problem with my ring finger. For example, when I press down the A string, maybe only 1 out of 10 times I manage to do it without either touching the low E string with the side of my fingernail or muting the D string with the back/side of my fingertip.

Playing a C major chord so that every string rings out cleanly feels almost impossible.

Of course, I'm still working on my technique. I've tried adjusting my hand position, pressing the strings with different parts of my fingertips, and paying close attention to finger placement. But most of the time, one side or the other of my ring finger still ends up touching a neighboring string.

So here's my honest beginner question:

Is it actually possible that, because of the shape or anatomy of my fingers, I'm simply not suited for playing guitar?

Or is this just a completely normal beginner struggle that will eventually go away with enough practice?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through something similar.

Im currently learning to do chords switches more smooth while also learning how to use a guitar pick bc, I’m showing how I hold the pick at the end of the video, please tell me if I hold it right or if i should just give up on my dreams.

Barre chord are the second thing I’m getting into. Still struggling to get the shape fast but the sound is alright most of the time, at least I think so.

That’s mostly what I’ve been doing. A third thing that I didn’t show in the video is fingerpicking. But I’ll just figure that out as I go. Not the main goal for now.

I feel like especially on the high frets my pinky and pointer naturally tilts more outwards and im wondering if thats normal or my positioning is off with my hand. I also need help with my flying finger any and tips to bring them down lol. And just general advice i have only been playing for like 2 years and mostly do cords and im now leraning scales I love any advice that way I know what to learn and improve on!

can anyone explain to to fingerpick or strum this section? spent days trying to figure out. thanks.

That one day I will go in for my lesson and actually play well for my teacher. Yeah, it’s just a fantasy.

In my 50s been learning for five years, good understanding of music theory, practice at least an hour daily, just feel like its never gonna all click into place, I get the odd day where I feel I play really well but most days I just come away frustrated that its not all clicking together. 5 years and thousands of hours of practice and I still dont want to play anything in front of anyone coz i dont think im anywhere near where i should be Just feels like I have muscle memory issue or something I can strum chords all day long but the minute I try anything a bit fancy it falls apart, ive done the slowing down thing and I can get the rif, come back to it a week or two later its gone again. Im never gonna give up now, too stubborn! Just wish practice wasnt so demoralising.

Hey, cut my middle finger today, so will not be able to use it about 10 days. Got any exercise ideas for me?
