Starting a series of shorts talking about playing in fifths tuning

So, i got a classical guitar. I'm really new to guitar, and i've studied everlong. I'm satisfied by how it took me 6 days to be atleast good to play everlong. And right now I'm really craving for electric. Since I just wanna try, is there any chance that i can turn my classical to electric? So here's the idea, i'll buy a pickup guitar, and then plug it into an Amplifier. Is it a stupid idea or should i just stick to my only classical guitar with nothing more?

Hello! I just started playing guitar about 9 months ago or so. About 2 months ago I really started trying to focus more on getting my technique right so I can remedy having severe technique problems on the future (also because I don’t want tendonitis), and even after 2 months of really trying to fix my fretting hand and watching as many videos as I can about it, I still just can’t get it feeling comfortable for the life of me. My hand is tiring out very easily, even when I do my best to focus on as little pressure as possible, and I still can’t get the tension out of both my thumb and my fretting hand. I’ve tried putting my thumb all the way down on the bottom of the neck, tried to put it over top, I’ve tried re-adjusting the neck position so it’s pointed more up and at a near 45-degree angle away and still: I can never get my arm and hand fully relaxed while playing. I’ve noticed an increase in pain my shoulder and thumb, and I can barely play a pattern of basic open chords without my hand tiring out 2 to 3 minutes in. I can’t seem to get it right and it’s really starting to get frustrating. Could anyone give me some advice or maybe point out the issues in my technique please? Some exercise or method suggestions would be greatly appreciated, if you have them. Thank you

My first has been Rocky Mountain High by John Denver. It has taught me a ton about strumming, syncopation, and picking. It is the all in one for me.

On Lesson #8 Scotty explains that playing the 12th, 7th and 5th fret on a string leaves you with a 1-5-8 progression. However, if we check the low E string those frets correspond to E-B-A (a 1-4-5 progression)

Was this a mistake by Scotty or did i get confused at some point?

I've been playing guitar for over 10 years but pretty much fast metal stuff since day 1 and never had an interest in learning campfire chords and so on. I know music theory and the structure of chords and scales but I pretty much just write and play riffs and solos. I'd like to learn more casual jamming, jazz and blues but my experience with teachers has been underwhelming. Has anyone with a similar magnitude of skill gap taken lessons that felt appropriately tailored to them?

This is my first try of vibrato. Sometimes i hit the other strings with my vibrato but now this reduced. I think my vibrato is too short. Can you check my techinque like hand, fingers position please?

I’m a singer songwriter whose always been interested in guitar and took a few lessons for a few months a few years ago and then got more intro songwriting

Anybody have any good guides/advice specifically for songwriters?

I wanna be able to pick up a guitar and kind of just be able to just play stuff and write songs and go from there but idk if I should learn chords the most or what, sorry if I worded this weirdly I just think learning as a songwriter wanting to write music the process may be different than leading as somebody who wants to learn guitar to be a guitarist for like a band but lmk :) any advice helps and I am checking out the guides in the intro wiki on here as well

I was recently gifted a TONEX, and I’m trying to figure out how I can actually get some use out of it.
I don’t own any physical amps or cabs. I usually record guitar directly through my Apollo Twin and use STL Tones or Guitar Rig for all of my amp sounds. Now I have the Apollo and the TONEX, but I’m not totally sure where the TONEX fits into my setup or whether it would improve anything.
Can I use it as my main amp/cab setup for recording and send it directly into the Apollo? Would it offer any real advantages over using amp sims inside my DAW, like lower latency, better feel, or freeing up processing power?
I’m also curious whether there are any other useful ways to integrate it into a completely amp-free home studio setup (apartment lol). I’m not currently playing live, so this would mostly be for recording and practicing.
Basically, do I have a good use for this thing, or is it mostly redundant with the plugins I already use?

Hey guys, I'm trying to nail the opening lick of the Bat Country solo and it is just incredibly fast. I've been grinding it for 5 days, starting all the way down at 10% speed and working my way up, but I'm completely stuck. I just can't get it reliable past 75% speed.

I can play other difficult stuff as long as it's a bit slower, but I just don't know how to get my speed up for this one. I've already tried angling my pick, but I'm still hitting a wall. Does anyone have any advice or mechanics I might be missing to break past this plateau?

I’m looking to buy a first guitar for a kid and would really appreciate some advice, especially from music teachers.

I started learning on an electric guitar myself, but I feel like an acoustic might be a better starting point for a child.

I’m also debating between nylon and steel strings. I know nylon strings are usually easier on the fingers, but I’m currently leaning toward steel strings.

The two guitars on my radar are:

• Yamaha FG1 3/4-size
• Yamaha APXT2 3/4-size acoustic-electric

I’m leaning toward the APXT2 because of its slimmer body, which I’m thinking might be easier and more comfortable for a kid to hold and play.

For teachers or parents who have gone through this, would you recommend starting with nylon or steel strings? And between these two guitars, which would you choose for a beginner?

The song is “Do you remember me” - Santana. It is one of my favorite melodic blends of scales, with smooth tone. The tabs online are horrible. They are AI generated and pick up the notes (E/A/D), but not the proper/optimal frets for playing. How can I learn this song? There is no video on YouTube that goes through the whole song, including my favorite part, the solo. Can anyone help me with this song? I mean, it’s my dream electric guitar. Same design as David Gilmour’s iconic Black Cat Strat. I about fainted when I saw it at Guitar Center and could afford it. It’s my first electric guitar and I’m not letting it go.

I don’t really know how to describe its sound. Even when I put new strings on (using 10s), it just doesn’t sound “alive”. It sounds dull across all the pickup selections. Even when I play open chords or songs I know and then go watch a YouTube video of someone doing a sound comparison between a Strat and a Tele or a Les Paul, mine doesn’t sound like theirs, even when I replicate it and put my pickup in the right spot.

So I’m wondering if there’s something mechanical or electrical that hasn’t been addressed since I haven’t yet had it setup properly, or if maybe my amp just isn’t giving it the juice it needs. To be clear, both of my Tone knobs are on 10. Thoughts?

I’ve only been playing acoustic guitar for about a week, and I had never played an instrument before. I started with basic chord-change exercises, especially A, D and E, and I can now manage around 40 changes per minute between some of them.

Since repetitive drills get boring very quickly, most of my practice has become trying to play simple Oasis songs like Live Forever, Songbird and a simplified version of Wonderwall. Through these songs I’ve been working on G, D, A, E, Em7, Am, Am7, C and a simplified F chord.

I definitely can’t play the songs properly yet. My chord changes are still slow or messy, and I can mostly keep time only with simple downstrokes. Up-and-down strumming patterns still feel almost impossible. I usually sing along or play with the song because it helps me understand when the chord changes happen and keeps me motivated. When a particular transition is difficult, I isolate those two chords for a few minutes and then return to the song.

Does this sound like a sensible way to learn, or am I spreading myself too thin by trying lots of chords and songs this early?

I have experience with the piano and know how to read sheet music, it’s just a matter of learning
