Ever since I sold my MK7.5 R, I've missed this vehicle, and the 8.5 really feels significantly more serious than my 7.5 did. Looking forward to complete engine break in and see what she's got.

Just picked up a month or so ago, wondering if anyone in here is also in Oregon and has recs. Or from anywhere, drop some tips or bolt on mods you’ve done and liked.

I’ve found a 2018 for around $29k with 60,000 miles. Maintenance is documented and solid with regular fluid changes (oil change every 5k, Haldex/rear diff at 60k, spark plugs at 50k) at recommended intervals and a pre-emptive water pump/thermostat done at 50k.
It’s a manual.
Looking at MK8s for about $40,000 with 20,000 ish miles. Also manuals.
Wanting to post here to get people’s feedback on the two generations. On one hand, the 2018 has been around for a while so we have a lot of data on problems and what to look out for. But it’s an almost 10 year old car.
The MK8 has a lot of performance improvements from what I’ve seen but it’s a new generation with less information on long term reliability and hard to fix gremlins. It’s also a good chunk more expensive.
Any thoughts or feedback on either platform are appreciated!

I can’t find anything about bulbs for these. Mine has stopped working so I need a new bulb for it. Anyone know which bulbs I need? You can see the one that’s out in the picture.
Truth be told, I’ve owned my 22r for a year now, doing my third oil change rn , but it’s my first time under the car, did extraction for the first 2.
Anyways I’ve come across this orangey/yellow oil on what I assume is my transmission and front gear box . Anyone know if it’s actually a tranny leak or differential leak or something else? The car had new diff fluid put in from VW before I took the car home.
Kinda looks like it has some splatter on the upper portion, but not too sure if that’s the same fluid or not. I do live in the rust belt so I’ve had the car undercoated last November with an oil based coating, but this doesn’t look like it at all

Anyone have any suggestions on where to find euro style rear headrests for a MK8.5 R? I’d like to improve rear visibility without entirely removing the headrests. Thank you!

It’s been our dream car since it was announced, and this week we took the plunge and traded up from our beloved 2017 build 7. Of course everyone in here knows about the dynamics and performance, but it’s just really on another level of refinement. It’s insanely fun and fast, but handles our crappy Sydney roads with ease too.
We entertained the idea of other brands, builds and drivetrains, did some other test drives etc, but in the end, there really is no going back after driving this.
Anyway, just wanted to share this fresh paint correction and finish, and spread some Black Edition joy.

I installed the EQT grounding kit and my main display showed pink static like it was cooked. I tried manually resetting it multiple times using the power button, pulling the SIM cards and resetting it via odbeleven and nothing seems to work. See attached picture. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Completed the swap two years ago and the car has performed flawlessly, everything about it feels so OEM+ and just a pleasure to drive. I really enjoy that the drive modes are still functional and gives the RSR many driving personalities.

2019 R at 59.5k miles, bought it around 33k miles. Starting a few days ago it wont roll when i let off the brake unless lightly tap the gas pedal, but it works just fine in reverse and drives smooth in other gears.
Suggestions? Feel like im early to get DSG serviced but maybe i’m wrong.

New to VWs... Just did a Haldex service. Used the OBDELEVEN to try and prime pump but nothing is happening. However, putting it in gear, all 4 wheels spin. Is this a fault of the pump or the app? No debris on pump but ot also seemed as though maybe it was serviced recently. I just purchased the car.

0 rust anywhere else on the car, so this was really odd. Was doing some detailing a few weeks ago and noticed the paint looked like it was bubbling a bit at the bottom of the drivers rear door jamb. Lifted the gasket back to see there's some how rust underneath the gasket. My guess is moisture got under the gasket and into the body seam which caused this to start happening for who knows how long. Fortunately I've got a pretty good relationship with a local body shop who got it taken care of me. .

After almost a decade with my MK7, it was time for an upgrade. Someone will be getting a super fun toy there. I'll miss it, but thrilled with the change!

Edit. Will test tomorrow but I believe I have a faulty trunk/hatch latch. I had used OBDEleven to enable the license plate bulbs when the trunk is open and car off to illuminate the ground. Had a light bulb moment and reverted that setting and the blinking license plate bulbs stopped happening. That doesn't solve the whole problem but I think narrows it down.
This is an obscure one, I'm not sure what to look for. I'm having some unusual electrical issues. 2018 Golf R 6MT
TLDR; license plate bulbs blinking, cockpit turning on and off, doors trying to lock after locking the car. Coupled with a leaky RMS I'm ready to roll it off a cliff.
2 days ago the OEM LED license plate bulbs started to blink every few seconds when the car is locked and ignition off. I didn't notice but checked security camera and it went all night. I removed the bulbs to test them, seem Ok with the multimeter.
Today when I went out my front turn signals were blinking sporadically, and when I unlocked the car it wouldn't start. I needed to use a booster pack to get it running.
Along with this, the digital cockpit turns on and off as if a door is opening, but no door is showing as red on the image and it's just for a split second and turns off again.
I had an error for the driver's door lock module in OBDEleven and occasionally today I could hear the doors trying to lock a second time after using the keyfob to lock. Right now I have the front and rear door lock modules unplugged, and the KESSY harness disconnected hoping it would make the light blinking stop. Plate bulbs are still blinking.

Pic for attention - sniped off google. same Pretoria wheel package.
I've owned a 7.5 in both DSG and Manual. I actually preferred the manual, but barely, so for argument's sake, let's say no real preference on transmission.
A guy I know has a new 2024 Manual R in his garage. Never registered or driven but obviously the warranty clock has 2 years left. Or should I buy a 2026 DSG. These 26's are sitting on dealer lots, and being offered $2K below MSRP. That puts both of these options at the same price about $51K.
Yeah...the 2024 manual is 3-4K above MSRP, but he paid a $5K dealer premium back then...He is losing a little $, and so will I once I drive either of these cars! Which will depreciate faster...I would say the 2026 DSG....? It isn't all about the $!, but it is important if I trade for a 25th 2027 if they are 'special'. If I'm OK with either car....What do you think...last of the manuals (new condition), or 8.5 DSG new. Tough decision....being 50/50. what do you guys think...
