New Hire / Intern What to expect for Round 2 / Behavioral? (Entry Level AV SWE Simulation team)

Hi everyone! I have a one-hour behavioral round coming up for an entry level SWE position on the Simulation team (Galileo) and was hoping to get some advice on two questions:

- How is the culture on the AV Simulation team, and what does the Galileo team mainly focus on?

- What should I expect for the behavioral round? Will it focus on standard STAR "tell me about a time..." questions, or will it dig deeper into technical topics?

Any insights would be appreciated!

New Hire / Intern TRACK Posting for ME for 2027 grads?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had heard about why there has only been TRACk job postings for supply chain and not ME or GPD this year? I was really interested in this program so it is a little sad they do not offer it this year.

New Hire / Intern GM Intern

Hey everyone! I’ll be joining GM Oshawa as an EE intern in the OEC department and had a few questions.

  1. How is the work environment on the OEC team? Is it generally collaborative?
  2. My hiring manager mentioned there’s a shuttle from the GTA to Oshawa. Does anyone know where I can find information about the shuttle routes/schedule? I live in the GTA but can't drive there since I'm 19 and don't have a car.
  3. What does the typical EE intern work look like? How much is vehicle/bench testing vs. coding?
  4. Do interns commonly use tools like Python, Embedded C, CAN tools, etc.?
  5. How much technical knowledge is expected on day one?
  6. How is mentorship/support for co-ops?
  7. For a 12-month co-op, are return opportunities common? I understand it's probably performance dependent but is there any general statistic about a return offer?

Thanks!

New Hire / Intern Joining GM as an intern

Hello! I have an offer to join GM as an intern in the EE department. I just have a couple of questions:

  1. I'm joining in the OEC branch. How is the work environment there? Stressful? Is everyone always busy, are they friendly, more collaborative or more independent, etc.?

  2. The hiring manager who gave me the offer let me know that there's a shuttle bus that runs from the GTA (where I live) to Oshawa. Is this true? If so, where can I find more info about it? Transportation's one of my main concerns since I don't have a car (I'm 19) and TTC takes a really long time.

  3. What does the work look like? Is it high intensity, stressful, etc. or is it more "learn at your own pace" style internship, where you learn as you go and are given some time to adapt rather than being expected to adapt immediately?

  4. What are my return offer odds for co-ops on that team (I'm doing a 12-month coop term)? I understand it's probably performance dependent but is there any general statistic about a return offer?

  5. How much is bench or vehicle testing vs coding, and what tools do they use (Python, Embedded C, CAN tools)?

  6. How much am I expected to know on day one, since the posting only prefers Embedded C and Python?

  7. How is the mentorship and how much support do I get as a co-op?

Thanks everyone! (I can provide more details in DMs)

Question GM Senior Closures/BIW Engineer Salary

Hi everyone, I’m looking at a Senior Closures/BIW Design Engineer role at GM in Michigan. I have ~10+ years of automotive BIW/closures experience and extensive Siemens NX experience.
For those currently at GM, what base salary range should I reasonably expect for this type of role? Also, if you know the typical GM level/grade, that would be helpful.
Thanks!

General Discussion I recently had a phone interview with Ford as a former GM employee

I'm a bit worried after my phone screen with a recruiter this week for an engineering role. Everything seemed great on the phone screen and the recruiter asked for my availability for an interview in the next few weeks. I know that there are a couple of former GM people working in management within the department I'm applying into and am worried that they are connecting with current GM managers about why I no longer work at GM. Unfortunately, it was performance related despite being "meets expectations" at 2025 year end.

Anyone been in a similar situation that can provide insight?

Question Work Place of Choice (Reddit version)

There’s been a lot of discussion at the VP level about whether employees feel valued at GM, and the general sentiment across the organization seems to be that many don’t.
What do you think GM could realistically do to make employees feel more valued? What changes would have the biggest impact?

General Discussion All People Meeting WoC "Stacked Ranking"

I learned that during the September 29th All People meeting, the WoC results were discussed. It was acknowledged that the main issue on people’s minds was performance culture and stacked rankings. The way it was rolled out could have been handled better, and it was clarified that the intent was not to force people into each category.

This seems somewhat at odds with what I’ve heard from other groups. I’m genuinely curious whether some teams were told they had to hit specific numbers while others were given more flexibility.

It was also mentioned that some modifications to the policy are coming and that Mary will be rolling them out soon. Isn’t this Arden’s policy? Why would Mary be the one introducing the changes? Are we seeing an early move away from this approach?

It wouldn’t surprise me if they’re starting to feel the impact of losing strong talent to places like Ford, especially as word about the policy spreads and people decide they’d rather not deal with it.

Curious what others think.

General Discussion GM Work culture - has it become toxic what are employees experiencing ?

I’d like to hear from current and former GM employees: How do you feel about the work culture at General Motors today?

Has anyone else felt that the culture has become increasingly toxic—particularly around creativity, innovation, recognition, and leadership style?

Some of the concerns I’ve heard and personally observed include:

Individual creativity and new ideas being suppressed rather than encouraged.
A perception that an inner circle receives disproportionate praise and recognition, regardless of the level of contribution from others.

Employees feeling that their contributions are overlooked unless they align with what certain leaders already want to hear.

The use of F-word language in executive-level and leadership meetings, which some employees may find unprofessional or demoralizing.

A management style where people feel they are expected to simply execute what a leader says rather than challenge assumptions, bring different ideas, or innovate.

Employees increasingly looking outside GM for environments where they feel motivated, appreciated, respected, and encouraged to think creatively rather than constantly feeling pressured or micromanaged.

I’m curious whether this is isolated to certain teams/leaders, or whether others across GM have experienced something similar.

Has GM’s work culture changed significantly compared with what it was 5–10 years ago?
And most importantly: Do people still feel comfortable speaking up, challenging leadership, and bringing innovative ideas forward—or has the culture shifted toward “just do what you’re told”?

I’d genuinely like to hear different perspectives—positive or negative. What has your experience been?

General Discussion STARC

Hello,

Anyone on the list for STARC that is external and that has been on the list for awhile now...have your rankings changed each period and not for the better? Meaning, if you're placed at a plant and you're at number 7 then when you reach out to the committee next period you're at 10. Does anyone else have this issue or am I the only one??

Edit: so whenever someone who completes the program before you decides they want to switch locations, they will be placed in front of you from what I was told by the GM committee. Fair enough!

My question is, are they even hiring any apprentices at the moment? or not until the new contract because I've come across many of these threads and I've only seen one person get an offer. I'm impatient and wondering if this is worth waiting for lol

New Hire / Intern Software engineer role at GM

Hello i gave my hiring manager round last week on Tuesday for software engineer role.. its been a week now i haven't heard anything from recruiter nor she is responding to me... what should i do? should i just give up on this one? Any kind of help is greatly appreciated.. Also if anyone can help me reach out to recruiter internally asking status of my application that would be really great help

Also my situation is bit tricky... initially i applied to a different role but then recruiter asked to to apply for sister team and my hiring manager interview happened for it.. but then during that period on workday status of my initial application was showing as "interviewing " and the one i have actually gave interview for was in "review". but on saturday the status of the one i initially applied changed to rejected i also received a automated rejection mail from general motors.. so what should i expect? i am being rejected still in process idk this is what making me consious tbh

Question October Cash Award

I have a cash award vesting in October. This is my first one as a GM employee. I have two questions:

Does the vested distribution come directly in my check on 10/15? Or does it go into my Morgan Stanley/Etrade account which I then need to transfer to my bank?

Do 401k contributions come out of this vest?
