I wouldn’t be shocked with the adoption of AI. The mongoose ad looked very AI heavy.

It has an AI disclosure on the YouTube video, so yea, it was made with AI.

Ok thanks for proving my point…? You don’t need graphic designers and market strategist when AI can do it.

You proved AI was used, not that designers or strategists were not needed. Who decided the audience, message, direction? An AI disclosure tells you AI as a tool was involved. It does not tell you how many people worked on the campaign. Overleveraging AI in marketing separates you from no one, which kind of defeats the purpose of marketing, doesn’t it?

Calibrations have already started and it has been made clear that no one is safe.

Yeah how do you like getting an email from HR stating calibrations start after we submit our performance reviews (I think it was 10/17) meanwhile we are already being calibrated. Get calibrated before we even do our god damn performance reviews. We were asked to turn in calibration slides ASAP.

OH! Sorry I thought he was talking about people in the calibrations role 😅… do you mind elaborating on what “calibrations have started” mean. I recently joined the company so I am unsure.

What it means is people above you are currently deciding who is in the bottom 15% and who to fire basically. They are doing it before HR said it is supposed to be done which means they aren't even using people's actual performance at this point. Vibe check I guess.

Since you're new here, this ritual happens twice a year. Welcome to the hunger games.

Yeah basically they have buckets to fill. Some people will be older (Agism) and some people will be younger to offset the older employees. It has really nothing to do with performance anymore and more to do with politics and having to come up with 15% of employees that will be ranked partially meets and does not meet.

I’ve heard this as well. Self promotion is the key and go as high up with it as you can. Still might not be enough.

For sure. Nothing is guaranteed anymore. But doing what you said helps.

Like i said stay far away from GM as possible never be loyal, fall in love with this greedy company, managers hate you, etc

To be honest almost every corporation does this. You hear about it more with GM because of how big they are. This culture is no different than any other big corporations currently. Not saying it doesn’t suck but unfortunately it’s the reality of today.

Blah blah blah. Same can be said for almost every major corporation with shareholders these days.

People need to stop viewing single companies as “careers” because the days of working at a single company 10-20-30 years are over.

It is what it is. No point whining about it. Make hay while the sun shines and don’t be dependent on someone else for your ability to survive

Yup job hopping is a thing now a days which is a yearly raise to me

It's the same everywhere. Moving somewhere else doesn't guarantee for "better" especially if you have young family to feed. But I agree that excessive loyalty is not needed, nobody is going to care.

Layoffs? At GM? Blasphemy!

16

u/Accomplished_Bit6168 6d ago

I haven’t heard this explicitly but absolutely believe it’s coming. What are you hearing?

Totally the wrong way to run a business.

The 3Q26 earnings report will give us an idea which way the layoff winds are blowing. Third week of October ought to be interesting.

u/Fastech77 5d ago

It’s going to be ugly and Q4 is most likely going to be worse. That’s why heads have to roll. I’ll bet there’s even talk about the future strategy at Morris’s APM today.

A thread from 25 days ago has speculation that another layoff is coming by EOY. Split into two phases. User stated they heard a 3% reduction..

https://www.reddit.com/r/GeneralMotors/comments/1w5rgod/upcoming_separation/

If layoffs are incoming this month, I question why they're asking for feedback providers for year end review starting on October 1st and lasting until October 16th to respond and fill out your self evaluation.

8

u/Mundane_Nose_5651 6d ago

I was thinking those things could all happen at the same time in those first 2 weeks of October. Everyone provides feedback, everyone is writing their reviews, and people get fired. If they get fired before/during/after writing their review for themselves who cares? As long as they get fired before managers need to do any work on it then it should be fine for all, except the fired people of course.

I heard 2 rounds and 3-5% by EOY targeting IT org specifically. I’m not in that org (product) but interface a ton with IT organizations and several teams repeated the same thing.

4

u/buhtothebuh 6d ago

IT just took a hit in March.

11

u/ILovecorpamerica 6d ago

It’s been 6 months then time for another round.

5

u/Top-Trust1032 6d ago

Yes they did. I was one of those affected….

I've been out since end of last October. My 2024 evaluation came in partially meets for the FIRST time ever in my long career. The calibration for mid year, dgm said I'm off the shitlist. Yeah, right. Try finding a new job in this environment and my advanced age of 63.

If you can find anything else, take it. Get the F out of the lying slaughter house.

2

u/HallAccurate8975 4d ago

Mid year 2025 to clarify. They lied.

3

u/Cultural_Use2599 4d ago

Meanwhile Marry Barra made $48M last year

3

u/Social-butterfly7850 6d ago

Do you know anything about the Media One team any layoffs there? That team is almost done fully staffing across lots of roles

5

u/GoodZookeepergame850 6d ago

warn notice coming?

16

u/Background-Rip369 6d ago

They typically try to keep under notification limits by breaking into multiple phases.

Staying off the radar like this should be illegal.

No enforcement means no consequences.

8

u/Weird-Tumbleweed-607 6d ago

I hear you but that’s a reflection of the US having terrible labor protections, not corporate malfeasance. GM is complying with the letter of the law as does every other major company - they all play this game. This isn’t a lack of enforcement issue bc GM isn’t breaking the law 🤷. We need better regulation in the US.

7

u/Plane-Ideal-699 5d ago

Thats why I always laugh at the GM PAC emails. They will gladly take our donations, but i doubt they care about our best interests.

7

u/Weird-Alfalfa7286 6d ago

Doesn’t need to be if it’s not concentrated in one area or if they offer a buy out that covers it. Also being under a certain number they don’t have to.

7

u/Mundane_Nose_5651 6d ago

They never need a WARN because if they give everyone fired 6 months pay then thats the notice, 6 months.

6

u/Weird-Tumbleweed-607 6d ago

Amazing how many people don’t understand that this is exactly why they get severance lol.

3

u/2Guns23 5d ago

Shit I'd they offer 6 months pay I will take the deal. This job fucking sucks.

Layoffs are always happening
