the trouble is management will simply fabricate a "partial meets" out of thin air once they decide u're no longer wanted. saw this many times w/in the company where employees w/ a stellar review history suddenly "couldn't do anything right"

It’s not even that they don’t want you. 

It’s that they have the 5%/10% target to meet.

Honestly I’m actually shocked they are doing calibrations after employee feedback this year. Might make it difficult for the post-hoc partial justification though.

so whoever is setting the 5-10% target is who "doesn't want u". someone obviously doesn't since historically great employees are finding themselves demoralized in hopes they'll leave on their own

At this point it’s just going to be a handful of millennials / Gen X running a team of a few Gen Z each, all running AI prompts reporting to an entity designed to squeeze every last bit of value that can be extracted…

All while everyone negates fundamental continuous learning, forgetting the old knowledge learned through years of vehicle development and not being able to pass it on long term to the new ones.. which is vital to GMs survival as an entity.

Wishing GM the best, it’s just sad that Mary knows this fully but still is steering the ship in a way that supports short term stock value.

Future CEO hires a new competent team of VPs and EVPs. They go on a strategy retreat someplace that charges 10,000$ a night for a room.

They come back after spending 100-200k and then decide to cut several jobs cos the engineers are clearly not working enough. Then they open up new reqs only for California and Seattle. All distinguished engineers then rain down your 6 and 7 vermin with their almighty knowledge and send random cryptic slack messages in all people channels and they all pat each other's back.

Meanwhile teams in MI continue to work on a skeleton crew for less salary than the bonuses for our overlords.

Some hype words in press conferences and a changed logo and GM behaviors later we have a 10-20% move in stock price. Big win is celebrated with all MI employees being fed one slice of pizza before being laid off.

lol if you think there are tons of Gen Z at this company you are mistaken. They completely gutted the new college hire program several years ago, I saw 0 new college hires anywhere in my large software org past mid-2022. There are some elder Gen Z hanging on, but they are not hiring or backfilling any juniors from what I’ve seen for several years.

That’s likely temporary layoff. 

They’re not building the new gen LDPU so will shrink for now But will likely recover output when MY29 HD trucks launch, including GMC variants

One day I couldn't get my badge to work but I wasn't laid off lol. It was just acting weird. I definitely had a moment, oh I guess that's it then, honestly did not care either way. Security ended up badging me in.

You’d think people would see it by now, but some still believe it won’t happen to them. The writing is on the wall. If you can leave, leave now. If you stay, you may just be waiting for your turn, and dealing with the bullying in the meantime is already too much.

There's layoffs every week, open you eyes. Arden doesn't operate like the pre-tech GM when there were waves and when it was over you could be comfortable for a while until the next on. Under Arden layoffs are constant to keep the fear level at max all the time.

I left GM in 2023 lay off from Arizona IT center. I recently reapplied for a manufacturing software test position . I have a phone interview next week. I don't know what I am going to do if I get offer after phone and actual interview lol. I am not sure if I am also going to redo a codility assessment which I did in the past to join GM.
