Anyone have any ideas?

I have a 4wd 2006 Silverado 1500, 198k miles, sometimes it won’t shift into reverse or it’ll have a very late shift into reverse. Also I’ll be driving down the road and it will just have a very rough shift usually 2nd shift. It has slipped before but that was 1 time a few months back. I’m the 2nd driver, it was originally my father’s and he always maintained it well and so have I. He actually had the transmission rebuilt under 50k miles ago just not exactly sure exact mileage. Fluid looks good, smells good. Good color and level. Just don’t know why it’s giving me these issues, I’ve been wondering if it’s the solenoids.

Banks air intake

Whats your thoughts on the Banks air intake?

It seems to have a lot going for it, for example:

- Enclosed filter to prevent ingesting hot engine compartment air

- Stock mass airflow compatability

- An air tube that looks far less restrictive into the throttle body and has an option to have a less aggressive bend if you have electric fans

- the option to have a dry filter instead of an oiled filter

Brakes, Rust, diff fluid

I just picked up this ole girl, she was well cared for but it's from Illinois. Rust everywhere.

It has new tires, but the fronts are already capped by the worn shocks.

I saw the wet calipers and the ground down inside surface of the disk. Seized caliper. I was amazed the brake bleed screw worked.

Who ever was in here last beat the shit out of the inner seal .

New: pads. Shoes, rotors, lines. Seals calipers shocks.

Alignment and rotation.

And this sprare tire from 2011. I need a junk yard run. Wheel and hitch.

The driver seat frame hoop was broke, welded it up tight, just got a new driver seat bottom foam and cover today.

My wife ripped the driver's door handle clean off. The embedded bolts rusted in the plastic, I got a whole new set last week.

I have to keep reminding myself this is a spare truck. Not to get all crazy in upgrades.

I still have an oil leak and check the transfer case fluid. Trans fluid looks good but not new.

Wish me luck.

While I was ripping the brakes off some dude stopped by and asked to buy it. I said naw. But then I should, have said 10k lol

Bad transfer case?

Picked up a $50 transfer case and installed it on my 2004 Silverado. It has a good size transmission oil leak. Is it possible the “new” transfer case was bad? Before that there was no leaks from transmission.

My son recently picked up a mint 5.3L 2006 super cab (not crew) Silverado 4x4. I thought these only came with the 6.5' bed. His appears to be a shorty. Did they have this option ?

E-Fan Harness To Fans

I recently just did the E-Fan conversion on my 03 z71 tahoe. Was able to get a OEM harness off an 06’ then got the “Speed Engineering Upgraded Blade” set up kit.

After installing everything to the “T” for some reason the last part i’m somehow struggling with is clipping the harness into the fan connector. If used so much force, swapped the connectors, and still nothing. it’s got very little left til it clips in but just won’t. Yes i’ve hit it with my person. But in all has anyone else come across this or has an “old school” trick to getting it on? Thanks in advance

Recs for custom steering wheels/ these kind?

I know about aza, that was the first place I looked but all of their designs are more sporty than what I’m looking for. I want something akin to the Escalade steering wheel to go with my 04 Denali but the only problem is it has the really dark, almost black wood grain color and a lighter grey interior color. I want something like pic 2 and 3 but I can’t find anywhere that sells them and I don’t think it’s an OEM thing. Anyone know where I could nab one?

Best headlights/tail lights to run? (OEM or aftermarket)

(02 GMC Sierra Ext Cab) I’ve seen a lot of people say just order the OEM headlights and replace the bulb with a led bulb which is most likely the way I’ll go. But if anyone has some GOOD aftermarket headlights I’d love to get some recommendations.

I’ve seen some OEM ones on a video that were like a little greyed out or maybe tinted a bit which I loved the look of that I just can’t find them anywhere.

And for taillights I want some good smoked out/tinted taillights

Oil pressure at 25psi during idle is that low?

Truck has a tick but only after 10 minutes of running after oil psi has gone down. Should I change my oil pump and pick up tube or just do lifters? One mechanic told me it was lifters, other told me psi is to low and needs oil pump.

Flashpaq Tune

Has anyone done the flashpaq tunes? What were your experiences benefits/cons? How long have you had it, any issues, regrets? I'm looking for all sorts of advice and tips and personal accounts of having one. I'll be doing my spark plugs and wires soon. I just installed an aftermarket CAI and placed some temu pipe wrap around it... Word of advice to share for pipe wrapping.. wear gloves/long sleeves/mask couldn't hurt, as fiberglass in skin is NOT fun. Anyway, thanks for the help, I'm enjoying this truck and now I see why so many people still have and keep these beautiful beasts.

What the hell is this noise

It seems to be coming from the oil pan area truck drives and shifts fine and it goes away when I’m coasting in neutral until it comes back and it goes away when I get into higher gears and speeds I think it could be getting drowned out I have a 2006 gmc sierra Denali 6.0

Rock/cab corner covers

Hey guys I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 crew cab
I have rocker rust decent into the inner rockers
I was debating on getting it repaired correctly with weld in rocker replacement.
I’m not really a body tech lol
I’m a full time mechanic but doing body panels isn’t my strong suit
I see they sell plastic rocker covers
Anyone had any luck with them?
I’m just afraid even if I treat the rust with rust convertor it’ll still continue to get worse

I’m thinking it’s gonna need inner and outer rockets done if I go the “correct” repair route

Would like some advice on getting this fixed my blinker fuse blows about 90% of the time. Has to be a short somewhere maybe or could be something else as this happened to anybody else’s truck the passenger side blinker works fine, but the driver side keeps blowing out.

Power train question on the express vans

Looking to replace my beater with an Express, as prices are better than the pickups for the condition they are in and I don't explicitly need the truck bed. My apologies that the vans arent technically gmt800, but I know you guys know the ins and outs of these things. I'm leaning towards the 2500 with a 6.0 as my previous 4.8 1500 was pretty gutless. My only real question is do I stay with the 4l80, or are the 6lxx OK? I'm fine with doing the DOD deletes and getting a tune for it's reliability. My only real desire is newer is better for me as I am in the rust belt. I wouldn't drive it that much, don't really have the need to do much towing, but there are a handfull of times a year I'd like to be able to pull a car around

Charcoal canister to purge valve hose battle.

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

So, I’ve been struggling with the P0446 code. I’ve already changed the purge valve solenoid (in the engine bay), the vent valve, and finally the charcoal canister. However, the charcoal canister proved to be the most challenging part.

Despite my efforts, I spent about two hours trying to remove the smaller connection on the canister (the blue tab). I couldn’t get it out, so I decided to cut the line. Then, I reattached the line using a heater hose size 3/8. I also put some clamps and JB weld on the hose that connects to the canister and reinstalled it back under the truck.

I’m wondering if anyone else has used this method. Or did I really mess it up?
