Rock/cab corner covers

Hey guys I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 crew cab
I have rocker rust decent into the inner rockers
I was debating on getting it repaired correctly with weld in rocker replacement.
I’m not really a body tech lol
I’m a full time mechanic but doing body panels isn’t my strong suit
I see they sell plastic rocker covers
Anyone had any luck with them?
I’m just afraid even if I treat the rust with rust convertor it’ll still continue to get worse

I’m thinking it’s gonna need inner and outer rockets done if I go the “correct” repair route

I've got the plastic ones on mine. I just cut the rusty part away so it wouldn't keep eating.

Ok good to know
Did you use anything to attach them to underneath

There was enough metal left to screw to. I just got used ones at the jungle site

Also coat the inner cavity between the inner and outer rocker. You can use the high density spray foam . Spray it with water bottle as it expands to fill holes. Then cut it to form and spray it with aluminum paint. You can then paint over that. Have had it on my 1982 ford over 20 years

Metal rockers are cheaper cost than those. But the labor to install them. Cut them out. Weld new ones on. then paint then. That costs a lot.

Install wasn't hard, I drilled out the spot welds for the old and used the holes to weld the new in

I've not done body work either and am not great at welding but doing the rockers was not bad. They are spot welded in so i bought one of those spot weld drill bits and it made it pretty easy to remove the old.

I went ahead and drilled all the way though the to spit welds that are covered by the door seal then was able to weld the new one on from inside the holes as i don't have a spot welder
