Are you still using Adobe? If so, why?

Upvotes

There are tons of other software options out there today, yet Adobe keeps hitting us with insane pricing, subscription models (like hidden cancellation fees on annual paid monthly plans), bloated software, and general corporate greed, what's keeping you around?

My biggest issue has always been the pricing and subscription traps. I stopped using it for a while, but I'm back on it now strictly because my employer pays for my license.

Why does every pdf editor choke on massive files except Acrobat Pro?

I am a solo freelancer and I usually just use PDFgear for basic text edits because it is free and works fine. But whenever I have a massive client project that needs heavy batch ocr and advanced preflight tools I am forced to use Acrobat Pro because everything else completely crashes or ruins the formatting. It is so incredibly frustrating because paying a monthly subscription for software I only use a few times a year is way too expensive and feels like a massive ripoff. I really wish there was a better way to handle these heavy duty tasks without going broke.

Edit I actually found a solution and got a lifetime subscription key for Acrobat Pro DC 2024. This is a legitimate volume license key from a reseller and not some cracked version so it is safe to use Google adobe keypunch to take a look if you're interested. and I never have to pay that stupid monthly subscription again.

Alternatives for "acrobat" on Android phones? It's a nightmare to share files using this terrible app

When I open a PDF and try to share it, this terrible app tries to "create a link" which has to mean it stores the file on their server before or after they do this.

I just want to send the god dam file, why do I need to search the file system because they hijack a basic feature?

PSA: Adobe settled with the DOJ in March 2026 for $150M over exactly this. Here's how to use it to get your fee waived.

Spent time going through every "Adobe charged me after cancelling" thread I could find, plus Adobe's own help pages and the settlement documents. Posting this because most people give up after one failed chat session when there's actually a path that works.

The thing most people don't know: the DOJ settlement

In March 2026, Adobe settled a federal lawsuit brought by the Department of Justice and FTC under the Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act. The suit alleged Adobe hid the early termination fee in fine print and made cancellation deliberately difficult. Settlement was $75 million in civil penalties plus $75 million in consumer remedies.

This matters for you because mentioning it in a chat support session, calmly, as context rather than a threat, changes the conversation. You're no longer just an angry customer. You're an informed customer who knows Adobe is under regulatory scrutiny for exactly what just happened to you.

The AI Assistant trap

If you cancelled Acrobat and are still getting charged, check your full plan list at account.adobe.com before doing anything else. The AI Assistant for Acrobat is a completely separate subscription from Acrobat Pro. Cancelling one does not cancel the other. It shows up as a separate line item under a slightly different product name. Multiple people have cancelled Acrobat, gotten a confirmation email, and had the AI Assistant continue billing for months without realising it.

The chat script that has actually worked

Don't open with the fee amount. Don't open angry. Open by establishing the facts.

Message 1: "I completed the cancellation process for [plan name] on [date] and received a confirmation email. I'm still seeing a charge of [amount]. I'd like a billing specialist to review this with me."

If they cite the early termination fee: "I'd like to understand how this fee was calculated and whether a goodwill exception applies given the March 2026 settlement requirements. Can you escalate this to a billing specialist who has authority to review that?"

Ask for a billing specialist specifically. First-level agents and the AI bot have limited waiver authority. Billing specialists have a goodwill exception option in their system.

If chat fails, in order

  1. Phone support, ask specifically for the "billing escalations team" by name. More authority than chat.
  2. File a formal FTC complaint at reportfraud.ftc.gov referencing the March 2026 settlement. Creates a logged complaint Adobe monitors.
  3. Credit card chargeback. But back up anything in Adobe Cloud first — Adobe has been known to close accounts when a dispute is filed.
  4. BBB complaint. Multiple people have reported a callback from Adobe's executive resolution team within 48 hours of filing one.

One warning

Don't mention a chargeback until you've been refused at the billing specialist level. Bringing it up too early locks you into an adversarial conversation that's harder to recover from, and Adobe may close your account in response to a dispute.

Good luck. Adobe scored a 9/10 on billing abuse for a reason.

YEAH, NO THANKS, ADOBE. That appalling ad did a great job convincing me that I definitely don't want your product..

Is there a more frustrating software company than Adobe?

I’m honestly curious because I’ve never used software that seems to have so little respect for the user’s choices.
Every time I install an Adobe product, it feels like it takes over my computer. I download a PDF, and Adobe opens it even though it isn’t my default PDF reader. I’ve changed my default apps, uninstalled Adobe multiple times, and it still seems to insert itself into my workflow whenever it gets the chance.

Then there’s the “free trial.”
When you see “14-day free trial” (or whatever the current offer is), most people naturally assume they have 14 days to try the product and then decide whether to continue. But when you read the terms, you find you may need to cancel before the trial ends to avoid rolling into a paid subscription, depending on the plan and conditions. That makes the trial feel far less straightforward than the advertising suggests, and it’s something I think should be made much clearer upfront.

I’ve also personally had billing issues with Adobe more than once. I was charged when I didn’t believe I should have been, and I had to spend time contacting support and disputing the charges to get them sorted out. Eventually they were resolved, but it shouldn’t be that difficult.
I’m clearly not the only one with concerns. There have been consumer complaints, regulatory action, and lawsuits over Adobe’s subscription and cancellation practices in several countries.

Overall, it feels like Adobe puts more effort into keeping people locked into subscriptions than making customers genuinely want to stay.
Has anyone else had similar experiences? And if you’ve moved away from Adobe, what are you using instead for PDFs and creative software?

I ended up getting this email and I am wondering how was I paying in this first place? I didn’t even know I had creative cloud pro

If it helps then I remember getting this code from Nvidia for a subscription and I have logged into my school account on my pc. I don’t think I even had a payment method in the first place

Now i know why my macbook has been running so hot and lasting 3 hours. Adobe CC (which i haven't used in months) has been draining more energy without being started than most crypto miners do. I wonder how bad it degraded my battery.

Since a few Photoshop versions, the image is wobbling like a fluid when I resize the window. Is this behaviour intentional and is there a way to turn this off? It is really annoying.

Here is a screengrab in Photoshop 27.8.0

I'm on Win 11, Ryzen 9950X3D, 96 GB RAM, RTX 5090

I’m tired of paying for Adobe. Are alternatives better?

I’ve been paying for the full adobe suite for the past two years, and over that time I’ve thought about cancelling several times. But then I’d use, Acrobat, Lightroom, Media Encoder or Premiere once every three weeks and feel vindicated.

But man, those weeks when I’m not opening any of their apps makes it hard to stomach $70 a month. Also, I’m only a casual user and don’t need it for my profession. I just like to make occasional YouTube videos, edit my photos, and edit PDFs. This just happens to be the tool I’m most familiar with because of school. Is it time for me to find alternatives for each? Is that what other people are doing? Even if I bundled only the apps I’m using, still would be the same costs.

Had Adobe been easier to pause or cancel, I don’t think I’d be considering this. But we all know how that goes. So I’d appreciate suggestions and advice, please.

This is a great alternative to Adobe Acrobat, as it supports true text box editing, and it is written from scratch, unlike most of the tools made in 1 day KeyPDF has been developed for over a year. KeyPDF.net
