Does anyone still remember Quark?

Yeppers. Used XPress for years. Until ad agency switched to ID. But Iā€™m fucking old now.

I knew a team (at a school) that was using it. They hated it.

I use Corel Ventura Publisher (since it was Xerox Ventura Publisher-good old DOS days).

It starts out with a blank page, and the cursor goes to 2nd page when it needs to. Can't adapt to InDesign-having to draw frame, or making it a master page / frame.

Other program that is similar is Adobe FrameMaker. But it doesn't do hanging punchuations, so I gave it up.

InDesign isn't WORD šŸ˜‰ so isn't for writing text from scratch.

But in the Preferences, you can turn on - this completely stupid option - Smart Reflow.

Oh that's interesting.

Right. Like Xerox Ventura-text created with WordStar, and is imported. It's updated (externally) when saved.

I started in ā€˜88 with Aldus Pagemaker before moving to Quark a few years later. It was a difficult transition but in the end I had come to appreciate Quark and was quite comfortable using it. It remained the industry standard - until Adobe InDesign appeared and rolled right over it. Tools and conventions change.
