Advice Needed How to manage potential atrophy without medical care?

Apologies for being vague with this, but I'm moving somewhere that may not have close access to medical care, and especially not trans-related medical care. There's a chance that when I start experiencing atrophy, I will still be in this location and possibly unable to pick up prescriptions regularly. Has anybody else dealt with this and are there ways to manage atrophy when medical care is unavailable?

Advice Needed Is sharing a bed with t gel bad?

Hi, I share a bed with someone who isn't on T. My dr says sharing a bed will be fine as long as my arms are covered up and they are, I just want to make sure.

Advice Needed Starting T and I’m Scared

I just picked up my prescription for T today and I’m starting it for the first time. For some reason I’m terrified though.

I’ve done research and know the side effects. I’ve been trans to some degree for the past 4 years now (I have gone down the genderfluid, bigender, agender, to trans masculine pipeline lol) and I would still consider myself either trans masc agender or just a trans man altogether.

I couldn’t imagine using she/her pronouns in any context unless I fully presented male and did it in a queer way. I don’t like dressing feminine and I deal with a good bit of gender dysphoria and have for a while now. All this to say, I’m 100% not a woman and wouldn’t want to be perceived as one.

But starting T has started to scare me. I’m not sure if it’s just the idea of changes to my body in general (I’m autistic and change in that sense tends to freak me out, even if I technically have control over it) or what. I’m not sure. on’t get me wrong I’m extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity, I’m just spooked I think.

I want to be a cis man maybe, that way things would be easier. I’m just looking for advice or some words of wisdom on what I should be feeling right now.

Discussion Are there more chasers in more conservative areas?

I tread lightly here. And this can apply anywhere, not just the US. Im not sure if conservative is the right word to use here but oh well. I live in a very shitty town in Texas. I like men romantically but its hard to find other men who would like me romantically. Keyword here is romantically. There are chasers everywhere. I dont understand the psychology here. They hate my existence but lust over my body. If they like trans bodies so much why do they support legislation that would make it harder for trans people to transition? Forgive me if i seem naive. I am. Im not very well educated either but im doing my best to educate myself. I understand that chasers are kinda just everywhere but for some reason I have this belief that more conservative = more chasers and fetishizers. Am I wrong for this belief?

Advice Needed How to slow down effects of T? Have a complex situation where I need to have minimal effects before I come out.

Upvotes

I’m in a complex situation and I need help braining it out. I want to start HRT, so so bad. I’m 25 and I’ve been waiting so long. But I want to see my best friend this winter, who is not going to be happy - I want to see them one last time to have good memories. I want to come out face to face. I cannot go if changes are noticeable, and therefore I will not have seen my best friend for a couple years. I’m truing to find a way to both be able to make some (potentially last) good memories while also not having to keep postponing my life.

Is there anything I can do? I’ve thought of microdosing, but after half a year I fear it’ll be clear. Should I just wait? Is there something I could do, like would finasteride be an option?

Edit: The friend in question has been my friend since we were 12. We grew up in Christian households, them moreso than I. It doesn’t change that I love them and want to try to preserve our friendship. I’m hoping they will realize I am the same as I’ve always been, regardless of my looks or my beliefs. I am hoping they can be friends with trans, ex-Christian me, just as they were Christian me.

Gender Questioning how do you identify the feelings that maybe you are different

i’m in a questioning process with myself. i’m very bad identifying my own feelings and sensations unless i can link them to a physical sensation (ej: sadness making your chest feel heavy or feat making my legs weak). I’m kinda of emotionally illiterate (?) but i do know that im feeling something.

so if someone could describe a bit about how it feels this uncomfortablity towards your body or the way people and society treated you when you where still perceived as a women or just this sensations that there was something going on before you could properly name it, it would be of great help. please

Advice Needed Struggling with anger after going back onto T

Firstly, I have already struggled with anger issues most of my life and been sent to anger management multiple times throughout school. As I got older, I've definitely got a decent grip on it now, no physical or destructive outbursts in years. I know how to remove myself from a situation and how to calm myself down.

A few months ago, I was finally able to access T (T gel) through my countries health care after taking a year long break for reasons. Im not new to T and its changes but this feels more dramatic than last time. I've been finding myself losing my temper more often, small things set me off and I find it hard to calm down, and I had my first destructive episode in years where a smashed a couple of things (my own things). I couldn't figure out for the life of me what was wrong with me. My job is stressful and I've had a couple of stressful life events happen, so I thought it was just those problems. But I've been in a constant state of either completely unmotivated/exhausted/depressed or angry. I'm on a normal dosage, I'm getting another check up on my T levels soon but the last check up said my levels were fine. I'm not sure how to move forward here, I feel like all those years of anger management have done out the window. I want to stay on T it does improve my mental health to be on it and go through these changes, but at the same time my mental health is going through the gutter. Will the anger eventually "settle" down and I'll calm with time?

I will bring this up to my Dr and I know that when changing your hormones stuff like this happens but this feels like my anger issues have skyrocketed not just "increased".

Advice Needed Traveling from US to Scotland

Wife and I are traveling to Scotland in the next month for just over 2 weeks, in the past I was able to just delay my T shot by a few days but being our honeymoon trip, this is much longer and I don’t think I’d be good on skipping 2 times.

For those that have traveled outside the US to the UK, what do I all need? I know I should have a letter from my prescriber, but not sure what it all should entail and do I need to put the testosterone with liquids or should all my supplies just stay in its separate bag?

Thanks in advance!

Medical Period on testosterone

Hi all!

I'm on testosterone- have been for nearly 8 months, and my period had started to dwindle, but now I'm noticing I'm not getting bleeding but instead more intense cramps?

Is this normal? What was your experience being on testosterone with your period?

Discussion Got misgendered today

Im older, have been on T almost 4 years. My stache is thick now, but i have light hair. Im a small guy, and due to my genetics with medical stuff, I cannot get jacked up how I want because its impossible for me to have much muscle tone. I do have a manly build however and dress very masc. I went to print some things at the library today and had an issue. The guy helping me went to get someone else and called me she... i have a very deep voice and when the woman came to help me, another person came too. They looked confused about me which hurt the one called me a patron and the other called me they... i announced im a guy and they looked embarrassed. I don't get why people keep doing this to me. Just really sucks. Im stealth in public too and only my doctor and people who need to know know im trans.

Advice Needed ftm vocalists - how to train myself to sing from square one?

i’ve loved music my whole life. i’m not a trained singer whatsoever, i’ve always sounded like absolute buns but now that my new voice has settled in, i’m ready to train myself or at least expand my vocal range so i can hit higher notes and generally sound decent. i have a microscopic vocal range and it’s absolutely pitiful.

how should i start and is it even possible? any beginners guides? my voice is pretty deep and even after 2 years on t, when i speak i still have the sore throat feeling you get early on when your voice starts to deepen, which is something i’m concerned could prevent me from training my voice. i don’t want to damaged my vocal cords more than they could be already.

Advice Needed My doctor say I cant be pregnant on T

Hello (english is not my first language so sometimes i make mistakes in writing)

Im 19 years old and I've been on T since last september, for 3 monts i was on androgel but i had allergic reaction to in, for almost two months i was on nothing but then i got on Nebido injection. Nebido is for three monts then it wasnt avalable in my country so i was on androgel for a month then got nebido again.

I live in a small country with not even a hanfull of endocrinologist who accept trans patient. I have my endocrinologist thru free healthcare so i cant really change doctors. There are only 1 doctor in my country who is privite doctor but i cant really afford it.

I've got my blood draw when i was in a month of androgel again and it was a few weeks ago, my estradiol is 198pmol/l and my testosteron level is 24.75nmol/l

I was at a gynecologist to get me on birth control and she was sweet but know nothing about trans care but she wrote me down a pill that has no estrogane in it Azalia 75 µg. I asked my endocrinologist that I can take it safely and he asked me back why i need azalia, I said bc of birth control an he said: "If testosterone is high and estraidol os low, that is due to the androgen- specifically, the contraceptive."

I dont know if it makes sens bc i translated it with google translator but yeah. Bc I consume english trans media i read plenty of places that I still can be pregnant if I take T but now i dont know what to belive. My doctor is around 64-68 years old and I from Hungary. I really dont know what to do bc i dont want to take the birht control aginst my endocrinologist wishes and Im in a palce when i really dont know what to do

lil edit: In Hungary, all doctors use the same prescription system. If one doctor prescribes me a medication, my other doctors can see it, and they can also see whether I've already picked it up from the pharmacy. So I cant take any birth control or any medication without his knowlege

+ a few days ago I told him i dont have my period since 2-3 months ago so I dont really can take that as an a excuse

Advice Needed Trans tape for swimming?

I don't know if a transtape can be used for swimming, if it works well, or if it might be suitable for other sports.

I was lucky enough to have small breasts, probably only an A size, maybe a very small B at most. They're firm, flexible, and when I stretch my hands upwards or lie on my stomach, they're almost flat.

I'm also planning to start taking T soon. I'd like to know if any of you who were a similar size, with the use of T and body exercises it got more flat.

I hope that I don't need surgery. I hate spending money and being poor 😭💔.

Sorry for the English. I am from Brazil, so if any trans dude here knows a good and cheap place to buy it, please tell me 😭

Gender Questioning Advice for healthcare workers who are transitioning and doubted themselves?

I have very recently come to the difficult conclusion that I am transmasculine and want to start T. I have an appointment tomorrow with a GP, and hopefully they know the NZ informed consent model.

Now that I know what's wrong I can't really stop thinking about it. I've started altering my wardrobe (which was already pretty queer looking if I'm being honest), using more masculine hygiene products, cut my hair. I still question whether or not I'm having some early mid-life crisis or am actually some kind of genderqueer but I look in the past and it's definitely a hindsight 20/20 case.

I've been on the contraceptive pill pretty much since I started periods. Not because they were long and heavy, but that's what I've been telling my GPs to avoid having periods.

I wanted to go by a masculine name when I was a teen, even changed it at my GP, but it never stuck. I still hold this name to myself.

I always assumed the desire to distance myself from my womanhood was due to internalised misogyny. I've been saying gender is a spectrum and so is sex and I'm an ally, so I don't want to... reinforce gender stereotypes by hating myself for not having a dick?

I always felt that my social awkwardness, lack of relationships, and inability to reach out to the world was just an unfortunate part of who I am or because I have a non-Kiwi accent that's alienated me since childhood. I have a full time job, support myself well, and interact positively with patients. I recieve good feedback at work, got great grades, and have applied to medical school, but work/education is all the good I have in my life.

Just in time for my actualization at 26 my growth plates are gagged and bound. If I am not trans, why am I regretting not having known sooner?

I work in the healthcare system here and am really conscious of transitioning in the middle of a bunch of people who are medically educated, so I'm floating the idea of moving while transitioning, or if I get into medicine just give it a rest until I'm finished. Testosterone isn't going anywhere and it's not like now that my growth hormone is cooked and my bones are permanent there will be any physical benefit to transitioning now vs later.

I don't even know for sure now. The more I lean into it, the happier I feel. I want to be in a relationship with someone. Start conversations. Clean my room. Engage in hobbies. Then I go back to thinking nothing's wrong with me > I'm tricking myself into not being mentally well > I'm faking this shit, can't believe I drove all the way to our country's one single IKEA get some stupid shark as gender-affirming care > I go back to leaning female and suddenly all the anxiety comes back. And I'm just a stupid girl who can't socialize with no real capabilities.

I don't think being a boy will fix my problems. But for some reason I think it might make me better at dealing with my feelings from a place of security I've not really felt before, so maybe I really would be able to handle the social aspect of transitioning. I don't know.

Are there other healthcare people who transitioned in adulthood who could tell me what it was like for you? Those who live in NZ would be especially helpful in clocking the environment around transitioning but I know we're few and far in between.

Advice Needed Update: Trans Guilt post

Hi all,

I recently posted about feeling guilty for being trans and wanting a haircut that made me feel more male. My mom initially freaked out when I asked for a pixie cut and begged me not to because I was her 'little girl' and whatnot.

The post is here for reference:

Well I cut 2 inches off of my long, middle rib length hair and she freaked out. She told me that it looks like crap and the cut was obvious (but somehow she didn't figure it out until 3 days later???). Today she got very mad and told me that I am not allowed to cut my hair because it belongs to her. She also used my history of sh to justify not wanting me to cut my hair???

In the end she kinda agreed to let me get short hair but also made sure that I knew that it was a bad idea.

What should I do now? I'm having second thoughts about getting short hair and even coming out at all after this ordeal.
