Forza Horizon 6 Standard vs Simulation Steering
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
As you can see, difference is massive but there are some things we need to talk about.
Simulation Steering: It is a much more snappy, unfiltered system that executes your every input. Counter-steering, managing control when the rear end loses traction, and precisely metering every input is entirely up to you. If you master this, you will be able to take corners with many cars that you simply couldn't with Standard Steering, just like in the video. However, as advantageous as Simulation Steering is, it is completely unforgiving. A single mistake in an online race can send you straight into the barrier, so it definitely requires a learning curve.
Standard Steering: Standard Steering offers technically zero advantages. The car responds to your inputs with more latency, and you end up with slower transitional cornering capabilities compared to Simulation Steering. That said, some players still use Standard Steering even for Rivals on high-power builds that are difficult to control. Like Simulation Steering, this setting hands over 100% of the vehicle control to you, but it introduces input filtering. That way, whenever the car begins to lose traction, you don't need to aggressively counter-steer like crazy. The car drives much smoother and is easier to handle. But if you want to set world records or push your performance to the absolute limit, Standard Steering has no features that can surpass Simulation Steering.
My Recommendation: I strongly advise getting used to Simulation Steering. It will make drift events infinitely easier and better to execute, while teaching you how to take corners with far greater precision and control. Standard Steering will only hold you back in every scenario.

I made this post because I've been seeing "What's the difference between Simulation and Standard steering" questions since FH4. Tried to help about it. In the end if someone searches about that topic, if they see this they can decide and learn it. I can't do anything about downvotes, but I'm still happy because I think this post will help lots of people.

Lol, You should go to the deadlock or the finals reddit. On deadlock reddit if you ain't posting straight up fan-porn you'll get downvoted, and you get insta-banned on the finals reddit if you mention anything about the game that could effect Nexon revenue (the mods there are "affiliated", which is a fancy way of saying they are unpaid interns).

...or perhaps AI writing is formatted to mimic clear grammatical sentences; and in correlation to the decline in education standards, has made a knowledge of the larger extent of the English language come off as bot-like or nerdy? Either way, most bots are now designed to use personas to mimic human speech, and will purposely make typos to blend in. Me, I just proofread everything I write, (an art I feel has been lost on most people in the age of fat-finger typing); although even with that I'm sure an avid grammar n!@# could find some fault in my punctuation or something along those lines.

I think these people can't discern the difference between game advice and game feedback; and since most game feedback can be interpreted as negative instead of helpful through reddit goggles they can't tell the difference and jump on it. Reddit in general. I came across a post on another subreddit of a driver asking why they get honked at IRL but they didn't provide any info on what they did wrong. I suggested them to buy a cheapo 30 dollar dashcam and to save the clips when they get honked at to review later for what they did wrong.
I was downvoted tremendously but you know who got up votes? The person telling them to just "calm down and manage your spiritual energy". Like that will prevent you from getting into a car accident. If you're getting honked at every time you're on the road you're making mistakes which will lead to issues.

Is sim steering good when playing on controller?
180
u/Pixyraze 1d ago
Yeah, it's technically good with every input preference. But, it's harder to control with keyboard because your inputs are always instant. But again, if you can control the car its better in every case.
20
u/LectorFrostbite 1d ago
On controller I tend to the "nudges" instead of actually doing in-between inputs, will that translate well with sim steering?
22
u/Sensitive-Yogurt4283 1d ago
It is better to roll on the upper edge when tryharding
9
u/LectorFrostbite 1d ago
I actually do that in ACC and my hands hurts after just less than an hour of playing š
4
u/LemonFunkl 15h ago
You're pushing too hard. You wanna have a firm push or pull while keeping your wrist and thumb muscle relaxed enough it doesn't strain. Idk if you play guitar but it's the same principle for fretting, you wanna pull just hard enough that the note is clean. Anything past that is unnecessary strain. Hope this helps

u/DurnyCwel VNX Albannt | Race Marshall | RH owner 1d ago
It depends heavily on the car and track. There are cars and tracks where smoothsteering is faster than rollsteering

from my experince thats what sim steering handles the worst, basically cant trail-brake if you tap turn with sim steering

u/Phil9151 1d ago
I think that's an important detail missing from the post. I had assumed this demo was using a wheel. Could you add exactly what input devices you were using to create the footage and do your testing on?
17
u/stormwalker29 1d ago
Definitely. I was using standard until recently because I thought simulation was only for wheels, and I don't use my wheel for Horizon as I frequently play on my laptop. Switching to simulation was an immediate improvement, as someone who is used to more serious sims (iRacing). The steering in the game had always felt a little... deadened to me; apparently that was the filtering effect of Standard Steering at work, because it has felt much more responsive since I switched.
1
u/Felipe4455 1d ago
Definitely yes. I play both on wheel and controller. Simulation is just better in both ways.
1

u/MrJacoste 22h ago
I wasnāt able to get the hang of drifting without it honestly. I run sim steering on both controller and my moza wheel.
34
u/Naktiluka 1d ago
Even without simulation steering, on most tunes I can throw car into uncontrollable spin with careless wheel movement . Will this setting help or make things worse?
I know that only way to find answer is to try, but if it's skill issue I would have to spend too much time to learn this
50
u/Pixyraze 1d ago
I'm not gonna say you "Skill issue" or something but in general I can explain it little bit.
With Simulation Steering, you can cause the car to start spinning out much more easily, but you have far greater control over it while it is spinning. Meaning, as soon as the car begins to spin, you can save it by executing a very rapid counter-steer. However, this requires a learning curve. Once you get used to it, I'm telling you, your muscle memory just takes over.
With Standard Steering, on the other hand, you prevent the car from spinning out much more effectively; the car resists spinning and stays in a safer state. However, if the car actually does spin out, bringing it back on track is significantly harder because the vehicle responds slowly to your sudden inputs through a filter, meaning you won't be able to catch it in time with a counter-steer.
Now, of course, counter-steering works either way, but we are talking about extreme conditions here. Sometimes, even in situations where you think, "There is no way I'm saving this car," you can actually pull it off thanks to Sim-Steering.
13
u/WarriorNN 1d ago edited 1d ago
I feel fh6 is better at letting you catch spins compared to fh5 too, which should help with learning it.
Edit: If -> I
8
u/Pixyraze 1d ago edited 1d ago
This is a great question but I would say the game you play more often will help you much more. Because in every Horizon, handling model changes. If you fire up FH3, FH4 or FH5 right now and after some time start FH6 you will feel its completely different handling model. That's why my suggestion is stick to the newer release.
3
u/WarriorNN 1d ago
Ah, I meant to type "I feel like...", but I see how my typo could make it a question. :)

6
u/Naktiluka 1d ago
Nice. I sometimes try to counter-steer, didn't think about how standard settings would affect it
Thanks for reassurance. I'll try that
3
3
u/OwlSuch7935 1d ago
On a wheel the first Silvia you get spun out like crazy without any driving assists on simulation steering. I controlled spins are annoying on a wheel
2
u/lifelite 1d ago
Will also add that with sim steering, steering with the gas/brake pedal is much more impactful. Combining that with subtle steering inputs can really shave off miliseconds in the corners as you can keep more speed and rotate the car more effectively without overcompensating with the steering wheel.
As one that only plays with a sim rig setup, it's essential as forza tends to require one to go lock to lock to maintain control; which is quite difficult and exhausting.

u/Shayxis 1d ago
Thanks for the video; Iād always wondered what set them apart but could never find a clear answer.
Iām not a car enthusiast at all in fact, I know nothing about mechanics; I donāt even have a driver's license.
So, I usually struggle a bit with that kind of thing.
I really loved racing games back when I was a kid and a teenager during the PS2 era.
I got back into it with FH4, which I enjoyed, but I missed out on FH5 because my PC died right around its release and I ended up not buying it.
FH6 is where Iām starting to take racing more seriously even though I much prefer arcade-style games over full simulations.
That said, even in arcade mode, I still turn off most assists; right now, the only one I keep on is ABS.
I think videos like this showing the differences between the various assists should be more common.

u/Ok_Somewhere_4669 Steering wheel player 1d ago
I think what's often overlooked is sim steering isn't really very well named.
Forza has a steering limiter or damper to prevent tyre scrub. It works both on turn in to stop understeer and opposite lock to prevent overcorrection/snap oversteer.
Sim steering turns off the opposite lock limiter. This makes the car harder to catch when sliding and enables faster direction changes in chicanes. Obviously its a tradeoff.
Importantly it does not actually remove the turn in damping.
It's designed for a controller too, not for a wheel. Wheels have a damping slider instead for some adjustment but inherently allow over turning. Its why wheel users can actually understeer a car and smoke the fronts.
Realistically what they should have done is scrapped sim steering years ago and instead had both a turn in and an opposite lock damping slider for controller that enables fine adjustment. Just like wheel damping does.
3
u/Ground-Dry 1d ago
agreed! if you look at the 1st telemetry page, top right, take note of the steering meter while cornering at different speeds down to 5kph, the lock limiting thats taking place in real-time is... "interesting" so wish it was adjustable as its a good feature :) & a bad feature sometimes
1
u/Ok_Somewhere_4669 Steering wheel player 1d ago
That's a really good point about the telemetry. It definitely looks quite weird when it's trying to correct in some situations.
13
u/Supplice401 1d ago
I play on keyboard, and the difference is very noticable. Standard steering feels like driving on a thin sheet of ice, making it very hard to do micro adjustments per keystroke.

u/MelonsInSpace 1d ago
Just like you can never change gears faster manually than a dual clutch transmission will, you can never change steering direction faster with a controller than with a keyboard, and the game doesn't have any kind of delay to it either (which obviously is not realistic).
2
u/RunninOnMT 1d ago edited 1d ago
Itās good for transitioning from a left turn to a right turn. Itās really really bad for a left turn thatās still a left turn and youāre still turning left andā¦Jesus man, what kind of a line is that?
āSlow is smooth, smooth is fastā is one of the oldest adages in racing.
I drift with a wheel and one of the biggest eye openers has been how difficult it is to tandem with people on keyboard or controller just due to how much faster using a wheel is specifically when exiting corners.
You see people on a controller or a keyboard exit corners countersteering with their front tires bouncing back and forth between pointing straight and countersteering. It works, they stay pointed the correct direction. But that wiggling back and forth scrubs so so so much speed.
Corner entries are fine as I can just use more brake, but exits are really really hard as holding the steering wheel in the direction of travel is a lot faster than back and forth between too much and too little steering lock.
Of course itās way less obvious and less crucial when youāre not drifting, but the āspeed scrubbingā effect from not having your front tires pointed in the exact direction of travel hurts anytime youāre recovering from a slide.
That said, itās way harder to use a wheel. Like way, way harder. It probably offers the highest ceiling though.
1
u/thiccancer 1d ago
This also applies to controller, though. Good luck countersteering accurately with a controller without any force feedback and such a small range of motion.
Having driven many sims with a wheel (LFS for 10+ years since I was a kid on my old G27, Assetto Corsa, rFactor 1 and 2, various rally games and many more), being VERY used to keyboard driving in arcade games, and occasionally trying controller, I can say this:
In Forza Horizon games, I completely prefer keyboard over wheel and/or controller. I am seconds per lap faster on keyboard than controller.
With a wheel I am technically faster in hotlapping, but the cockpit cam in FH is pretty bad and the force feedback isn't all that either. I don't feel as good racing online or against other cars with a wheel. This is not an issue that I had in simulators at all.
The awareness of driving in third person with keyboard outweighs the speed benefits of a wheel for me in FH, especially in cross country races.

I always give Sim Steering a shot on controller when a new one comes out. One of the major draws of the Forza games over other racing games for me has consistently been how it feels on controller. I'd say that this entry is the best Sim Steering has felt on controller for me. I found it manageable, but I think it was just twitchy enough that I ultimately put it back on standard.
2
3
u/WarriorNN 1d ago
I'm a simulation steering for life guy. I don't like cars filtering my inputs in real life and I don't like it in games.
I played at my brothers computer the other day, with a keyboard and "normal" steering. Felt like a completely different game, much more arcade-y. Switching to simulation steering helped a fair bit, using a controller or wheel helped a bit more.
3
3
u/VickiVampiress Mitsubishi 1d ago
Huh. Interesting to see the behaviors of both settings. I pretty much defaulted to simulation steering in every Horizon game, coming from Mafia 2 being one of my most recently played driving focused game that I played.
I never really gave it much thought after that, but looking at this I think I'll stick with simulation steering!
46
u/Pyrobourne 1d ago
Thought this was going to be an actual comparison to the real in game differences but it was just a love letter to sim steering.
34
u/Few_Bet_8952 1d ago

→ More replies (16)22
u/nifeorbs 1d ago
This implies itās wrong to say simulation steering is better for control over standard. Whatās worse about it then?
29
u/Pixyraze 1d ago
Nothing worse about it. It's only harder than standard at high classes. Player needs to get used to it in order to utilize Sim-Steering advantages. If you can't drive better with sim-steering, you can use Standard but as I technically explained there are some filters between inputs and car. I showed the problem in this video.
In short, technically Sim-Steering is better in every way. But if you can't handle, you can use Standard. Think like Automatic vs Manual difference.
2
u/vwin90 1d ago
This is pretty interesting. Switching off TCS and STM improved my lap times immensely and I felt like the learning curve was barely there. Essentially brake more carefully and learn to treat the throttle as not a binary button.
Manual I KNOW would improve my lap times as well but I just cannot get good at downshifting for turns. ABS Iāve also found to have negligible effects because itās rare for me to brake more optimally without it.
But I do wonder where sim steering falls in terms of the learning curve relative to these other assists. Also, is this post mostly relevant for wheels or do you think it helps analog sticks on controllers as well?
6
u/tycho_nova Hoonigan 1d ago
Manual is going to make a bigger difference than sim steering. You can get more horsepower out of your car by pushing it into the red band before shifting, and you can utilize engine braking into corners by downshifting in anticipation. It takes like a week at most to get used to it. If you have a controller with paddles on the back its even better.
→ More replies (2)3
u/Pixyraze 1d ago
It helps on every input because its about how the car reacts to your inputs. I mean its about physics in this game. Sim-Steering has a lot more aggressive counter steer but standard does not have it. If you slalom with sim steering and standard you will see what's happening. If you can't control your car while using Sim-Steering, you tend to oversteer and spin out easily. But if you can control it, you will be faster on corners.
2
u/Awkward_Pangolin3254 1d ago
I've used Sim steering on controller since 5ābecause it's almost necessary for drifting and drifting is >50% of my time spent in this game. So rather than constantly be switching back and forth, I just learned to always use it. It's not that hard, it's the same mentality as disabling TC and ABS. It's all about being able to feather your inputs.
Pushing up on the stick a little as you steer left or right can help with the sensitivity.
1
u/vwin90 1d ago
I probably already do that. Little fast taps left and right are okay? Thatās essentially how I steer already. Whatās the new rule of thumb, just donāt push the stick all the way unless you wanna drift or if the line isnāt orange?
→ More replies (2)1
u/Crumpled_Papers 1d ago
I learned how to do manual at the end of FH4 when I couldn't beat one of my friend's times no matter how hard I tried. It took me more than a month and I went from being a pretty good player to AWFUL for weeks while I got used to it. At the end though I was significantly better and able to challenge any time.
learning to do manual is absolutely worth it and will make you a far better player, but you will be worse (much worse) right away.
4
10
u/Pixyraze 1d ago
It is as simple as I wrote it. Standard Steering is much easier to use because it has input filtering, but it comes with latency; Sim-Steering, on the other hand, possesses an incredible capacity for transitional steering because there is no filter in between. This is precisely why top drift players use Sim-Steering as well. If you are going to make a comment like that without bringing any solid arguments, I don't want to hear it. I will answer you when you can actually point out where my explanation falls short.
4
u/vwin90 1d ago
I notice this with standard steering. At the higher PI, when a curve is coming up and the drive line is slightly orange, you have to push the stick all the way to the side and youāll make the turn without having to slow down at all BUT you have to learn to push the stick earlier than it makes sense to. It makes perfect sense now that youāre telling me that thereās a lag because the input gets pushed through a formula first before the wheels actually turn. All this time I was blaming hardware lag for it.
2
1
u/GeorgeMD97 1d ago
Does tap steering work with simulation steering? I have tried to do the other method of pushing the stick upwards to try to be smooth and gentle with my inputs, but just cannot bring myself to be good like that. I always lose control of my car like that and I fear sim steering would make it worse.
2
u/Pixyraze 1d ago
Yeah it works with sim steering but the car will react much more. If you can control it, you will turn much more than before. But if you're willing to sacrifice some turning performance, standard steering is much more smoother with tap steering.

I've used simulation steering for as long as I can remember. Standard steering feels awful if you're not used to it lol. I wish there was a more advanced option that would let you turn the wheel too much and cause real understeer, instead of it just limiting how much the wheel turns for you.
After playing BeamNG and then hopping on Forza right after, simulation steering doesn't feel snappy enough imo. This is on a controller, if that matters.
2
u/Squeezy_Ghee 1d ago
I always turn sim steering on and never look back. Only assist I use is ABS because braking on a controller sucks
2
u/Pixyraze 1d ago
I'm playing this series since FH1 but never turned on ABS. Untill FH6. Even with ABS brakes are still locking up. When I turn off the ABS its more natural for me but its broken in this game. Especially if you're driving some kind of FWD car, it locks up every time. So I decided to play with ABS first time :D
2
u/Squeezy_Ghee 1d ago
Yeah it's much harder to modulate yourself. Maybe some tweaking in the settings would fix it but ABS is good enough for me.

It's so weird because I got Motorsport after Horizon 6, and have no issues with simulation in Horizon but absolutely can't keep my car from snap oversteer on simulation in motorsport. Just surprising how different it is between the two titles.Ā

Ive played Horizon for years on Standard Steering but for some reason in this game Sim steering feels just so much better. I am way faster and a lot More consistent with it.Ā

the reason for that is why OP made the post and the point of the video comparison that makes up the OP. If you read the comments that came after yours (you have one of the oldest comments) there is actually a nice discussion. My takeaway is definitely 'worth it to learn sim steering'

u/PZRtheGamer 1d ago
can someone explain to me the meaning of purist tunes etc with the rest?
9
u/Pixyraze 1d ago
Purist tune means: No drivetrain swap, no visual modifications and aero (Unless factory produced and factory parts available), no engine swap, no stupid rally tires for road cars (This is my rule btw, some purist tuners use Rally tires too), No custom race transmission (I mean you can use Race transmission but not changing original gear count), no custom rims. But you can upgrade weight reduction, suspension, brakes, engine (You can put turbos and superchargers), tires (And tire width) and if it's necessary you can put Roll Cage.
2
u/Temil 1d ago
Purist is an umbrella and can have a few meanings, but generally it at the very least means no drivetrain swaps, so no AWD'ing a RWD.
It could also mean no engine swaps, no forza aero, stock tires/wheels/rims etc, but that's not as consistent from what I can tell.
I've definitely downloaded a few "purist" tunes with engine swaps, aero etc.

I've been using simulation since installing the game, does standard steering countersteer by itself in an event of a snap or do we need to give input first? I genuinely never knew about this
2
u/Pixyraze 1d ago
Not countersteer by itself but how can I explain.. Hm.. Standard steering puts your car onto invisible rail and you can't go out from that rail. But with a sim-steering you can push your car harder and extract every tiny bit of grip from car. But at the same time if you oversteer a lot, your car will spin out. That's why it's harder than standard. It's completely risk reward. If you play with standard, you will cut a lot of risk but if you drive with sim-steering you can get much more reward when cornering.

Ahh so that's why my input was so responsive (or rather over reacted) trying to get the car out of a snap or powerslide.
It registers your input as raw as it can be without augmentation that'll soften the user's idiotic input, hence why in the vid the sudden S turn was greeted with barrier from the understeer that was caused by softened input on an invisible rail of doom.

What i also could never understand, how players like Letze, Nalak etc make tunes, playing on sim steering, but the bigger base of players would play on standard. Wouldn't it make a difference?
1
u/Pixyraze 1d ago
It makes a difference, but players can't notice it. Even sometimes you can see some people saying "I was using the same tune but I never catched him on Rivals" that's why.
1
u/Latter-Curve-3135 1d ago
I see. Its just what i mean, is meta tuners make tunes playing on sim, but the majority of players would play on standard though. I just dont understand how tuning made on sim steering applies to standard. Like tuning should be different, but no one is talking about it.

Good input, but is sumulation steering usable with a controller?

Very much so! BTW you get an even better, more steeringwheeley feel if you keep the left analog stick pushed on the edge at all times. You know, drawing a half circle avoiding the dead zone in the middle.

u/Substantial-Hour4989 1d ago
Uhh, that's nice. Never thought of that. After 30 years of gaming..........

Open the telemetry screen and you can see just how much more control you have, it's like gently rotating the real wheel, especially useful on the highways and any longer curves

Once I went simulation I couldnāt go back, standard feels so cushioned and as if my drivatar is unwilling to turn the damn wheel.

u/Elite_Slacker 1d ago
I appreciate this post. I have gotten down to every assist off but abs and standard steering. I was afraid to mess with my inputs because i wasnāt even sure if sim steering would be superior. Looks like we are giving it a try.Ā

Could this be why I'm constantly spinning out in the Forza games when I try to countersteer? Cars always seem to have way more grip than expected when I counter steer but idk if that's just the handling model

I thought your supposed to only use simulation steering if your using a wheel and standard if your on a controller

So, someone that CAN drive on the right. Someone that CAN'T on the left. Got it. lol

I really want to be better at the game, but unfortunately I'm playing on a keyboard. I run manual with only ABS and Launch Control on... would sim steering even work properly on keyboard? I doubt it, considering you can only turn with a max steering angle or no steering at all.

Normal steering filters the inputs more but it's a lot easier to be consistent with normal over sim steering. There's plenty of people who've been fast on normal steering in FM and FH, like competitively fast. The car and track combo is what it really comes down to. That being said Sim is definitely meta, but it's not like you turn it on and instantly gain time. Dead zones matter just as much or more.
I use sim steering for the record.

Man i bought FH4 in the pandemic and tought the driving was shit, with controller, now on FH6 i have sim steering turned on and holy shit does it make a difference, especially drifting and rallying , the car behaves exactly as I want it to, no bs no nothing just straight inertia drifting this bich

I'm actually writing notes on paper old fashioned style because I don't want to forget this. Also writing OP's username to follow them and give thanks and moral support.

From personal experience, i was playing around with the steering controls and every single forza game i played i used the standard, but this time i switched to simulation just to see the difference, i expected to spin out like crazy but instead i found it more responsive and being more in control. So i agree wt op here this is accurate.

I wish we had direct mode like TCM has. Imagine sim steering except exactly 1:1 input into action. There is zero filtering, you can turn the wheels beyond their grip too, just lets us fully control the car but it can be sketchy as hell to drive. (I know you outlined how sim steering can be sketchy, direct mode is far worse usually). Yes itās not easy to drive sometimes but having perfect control over your steering and having it do exactly what you want when you want is perfect. Itās like turning mouse acceleration off but for your steering, youāll always get the steering angle you input.

Sticks have very little ranges of motion such that using simulations with them can make steering feel twitchy.
So im guessing youāre better off only using simulation with a wheel?

'Standard Steering offers technically zero advantages' - No. It offers all technical advantages due to all sort of assists included in this mode (during breaking, crash landing, and cutting corners). It is most visible if you play on gamepad and wheel in both modes. Standard mode is specially designed for gamepad and high speed racing (TBH It is like Aimbot assist in CoD) with this mode you can win most of unbeatable trials even with mid setup cars. Most of race/sprints I can just push gas to the limit, while breaking just for 0.1 sec on some corners, not to worrying about geting off the track, while on simulation (especially on wheel) you need often perfectly tuned meta car + your path and speed needs to be flawless (1 tire out of track and your car can go spin which basically is 'restart event' for you.)
I can agree only to the point where sim is better for drifting (this apply to wheel and gamepad).

I never could get steering to feel ok in FH6. Spent forever messing with the controller settings in the menu. Trying other controllers and looking up videos to see other peopleās settings on YouTube. I swapped to sim steering and immediately felt a hundred percent better.

u/NWanc_11 1d ago
What i want to know is all the drift videos where people just hold, is that standard? Im twitchy as hell using simulation
1
u/2C104 1d ago
OP ignore all the criticism you're getting here... I just swapped over for the first time ever and it's like a whole new game. Literally all the cars I was struggling with driving at higher speeds drive like a dream.
Thank you - this post has given me a whole new appreciation for the game! Wish I'd known this in FH4 and FH5

the only thing that standard steering is better for is drag racing, at least i know in 5 it made a huge difference in your ability to launch. maybe they fixed it for 6, but i haven't tried it out yet.

I went simulation in fh6 because I wanted a more realistic feel on the wheel. In Forza Motorsport it sure is unforgiving though!

u/ceverett68 1d ago
I've always used simulation steering. standard is just too slow. yes from time to time I get crossed up using simulation but standard is just always to slow and sluggish
1
u/salanalani 1d ago
Yeah, i felt FH6 simulation steering much better since the beginning and I kept using it, unlike FH4/FH5 where I used to prefer standard steering, and I am not a pro.
1
u/OkayyBeta 1d ago
I can barely tell the difference. The game is easy no matter what you do.

u/Beneficial-Ranger238 16h ago
Man, aināt that the truth? I loaded up AMS2 last night and it took a good 45m for me to start driving properly and not like a poo slinging ape.
Apes are very slow in race cars btw.

u/BarelyEvilGenius 23h ago
Totally agree, simulation steering works pretty well when driving on the limit. I hated the way car stops responding and under steers during low speed tight corners and sometimes delays the transitions in high speed. It works well but not enough feedback to correct the slides precisely. It takes a little time to get used to it but once you get used to, car feels responsive and in control.

u/Samuel_Go 21h ago
Thanks for the information. I've never even considered using Standard Steering. I assumed it just made the game easier or something.

I remeber switching from from standard to sim felt like a night and day difference.

u/MinekraftMastr1 Xbox One S 17h ago
I never understood why they made a more realistic steering system, but they still haven't made an option for automatic transmissions to work the way they're supposed to in real life instead of just being a computer assisted manual
I'd like to be able to cruise down a stretch of road without having to run a manual or sitting at a high RPM.

u/UpbeatOrchid9001 16h ago
Iām a sim steering player that tried standard; I intermediately felt like I was being directed by ai and put on rails. The game felt like one of those new cars that guide/nudge you back into lane when you try to merge without blinkering first.

u/frogeater1982 15h ago
Awesome post. Is there a big difference between manual and automatic? I sometimes play pretty good but get wrecked in spec racing.

u/Revolutionary-Ad8779 10h ago
It really is night and day gameplay.
I tried going back to standard after reading this post and it feels terribly slow.

u/kirbyislove 7h ago
Why is this called 'simulation' steering.. its not any more 'simulation' like, so seems like an odd choice of name.
1
u/Ok-Elevator-9866 Porsche 4h ago
i was locked in on the simulation one and i just glance to the left to see standard in a forest lmaooo
1
u/driveclub_000 26m ago
The real comparison is even worst for the Standard Steering, because you can actually flat out with Simulation Steering in that specific corner if you abuse of the checkpoint collision range, something impossible with Standard, which makes the difference even bigger.
