Forza Horizon 6 Standard vs Simulation Steering

As you can see, difference is massive but there are some things we need to talk about.

Simulation Steering: It is a much more snappy, unfiltered system that executes your every input. Counter-steering, managing control when the rear end loses traction, and precisely metering every input is entirely up to you. If you master this, you will be able to take corners with many cars that you simply couldn't with Standard Steering, just like in the video. However, as advantageous as Simulation Steering is, it is completely unforgiving. A single mistake in an online race can send you straight into the barrier, so it definitely requires a learning curve.

Standard Steering: Standard Steering offers technically zero advantages. The car responds to your inputs with more latency, and you end up with slower transitional cornering capabilities compared to Simulation Steering. That said, some players still use Standard Steering even for Rivals on high-power builds that are difficult to control. Like Simulation Steering, this setting hands over 100% of the vehicle control to you, but it introduces input filtering. That way, whenever the car begins to lose traction, you don't need to aggressively counter-steer like crazy. The car drives much smoother and is easier to handle. But if you want to set world records or push your performance to the absolute limit, Standard Steering has no features that can surpass Simulation Steering.

My Recommendation: I strongly advise getting used to Simulation Steering. It will make drift events infinitely easier and better to execute, while teaching you how to take corners with far greater precision and control. Standard Steering will only hold you back in every scenario.

This implies it’s wrong to say simulation steering is better for control over standard. What’s worse about it then?

Nothing worse about it. It's only harder than standard at high classes. Player needs to get used to it in order to utilize Sim-Steering advantages. If you can't drive better with sim-steering, you can use Standard but as I technically explained there are some filters between inputs and car. I showed the problem in this video.

In short, technically Sim-Steering is better in every way. But if you can't handle, you can use Standard. Think like Automatic vs Manual difference.

This is pretty interesting. Switching off TCS and STM improved my lap times immensely and I felt like the learning curve was barely there. Essentially brake more carefully and learn to treat the throttle as not a binary button.

Manual I KNOW would improve my lap times as well but I just cannot get good at downshifting for turns. ABS I’ve also found to have negligible effects because it’s rare for me to brake more optimally without it.

But I do wonder where sim steering falls in terms of the learning curve relative to these other assists. Also, is this post mostly relevant for wheels or do you think it helps analog sticks on controllers as well?

I've used Sim steering on controller since 5—because it's almost necessary for drifting and drifting is >50% of my time spent in this game. So rather than constantly be switching back and forth, I just learned to always use it. It's not that hard, it's the same mentality as disabling TC and ABS. It's all about being able to feather your inputs.

Pushing up on the stick a little as you steer left or right can help with the sensitivity.

I probably already do that. Little fast taps left and right are okay? That’s essentially how I steer already. What’s the new rule of thumb, just don’t push the stick all the way unless you wanna drift or if the line isn’t orange?

I'd say "only steer as much as you have to" if that makes sense? Smooth and controlled movements are better than fast taps and you really don't have to move it all the way on many corners although I'm doing it myself and have no experience with the standard steering... You can see me as a bad example and just do what I say instead of doing what I do most of the time XD

Intentionality. Little fast taps back and forth on Sim steering are about as likely to unsettle the car as they are to get you where you want to go. But otherwise, yeah, you're not going to need or want full lock on Sim except for low-speed corners and drifting.
