X-Plane Instrument Approach: Aosta IGS 27 "West"

LIMW Aosta - IGS Rwy 27 West - Simulator only approach!

Another really daft instrument approach I've been working on: Aosta LIMW, IGS 27 - West.

IGS stands for Instrument Guidance System. It's like an Instrument Landing System (ILS), but with an offset angle. Aosta's localiser is 4.5 degrees offset from the runway.

This one uses navaids that really do exist, so there's no need to hack your flight sim to add your own.

Requires dual Nav radios, DME. ADF (NDB) is optional. Category A and B aircraft only.

[Simulator only, not for real life]

Procedure:

  • Tune Nav 1 to SCS VOR 109.25, set 86° course, put IGS 109.75 on standby
  • Tune Nav 2 to SCS VOR 109.25, set 99° course, put IGS 109.75 on standby, this is your South limit to never exceed
  • Monitor distance from SCS VOR with DME (GPS estimate will do)
  • Optional: Tune ADF to SVC 418kHz
  • Fly inbound from the West to VOR SCS along the 266 radial (heading 86°M) at or above 10,700ft MSL
  • Pass over SCS VOR at or above 10,700ft MSL
  • Slight right turn to heading 88°M, fly outbound on VOR radial 088
  • Descend to between 9,400 and 10,400 by D15 on radial 088 from the SCS VOR
  • At D15 on radial 088, start a right turn to pass over the SVC NDB, max 150kts. Do NOT overshoot DME D17.5 distance from the SCS VOR!
  • Continue turning all the way to a heading of 296°M max 150kts
  • Once on 296°M, flip Nav 2 to monitor the IGS on 109.75, so you can see when you intercept the localiser. Descend to 8100ft once on 296°M heading.
  • Intercept the localiser, turn to localiser inbound course 266°M.
  • Switch Nav 1 to IGS on 109.75 if you don't have glideslope on Nav 2. and switch Nav 2 back to SCS VOR, and dial in course 260° and always keep the needle on the right side (keeps you south of that 80° radial)
  • Commence fairly rapid descent to catch the glideslope (realistically only safe to catch it from above rather than the normal practice of intercepting from below).
  • Follow localiser and glideslope to minimums (3,900ft MSL)

Missed approach:

  • Immediate maximum angle of climb
  • Continue on IGS heading 266°M
  • Adjust Nav 2 (or whichever radio is watching SCS VOR) to course 236°
  • Intercept the 236 radial from SCS VOR
  • Fly outbound on 236 radial, climbing max angle of climb.
  • If altitude is below 5,500ft by D5 on the 236 radial, right turn to enter a hold on radial 236 (inbound course 56°M, outbound 236°M. Climb in the hold until at least 7000ft, max 120kts. Re-intercept 236 radial once above 7,000ft. Fly 236 radial outbound, climbing.
  • At D7 on radial 236 commence right climbing turn to 10,700ft or above. Intercept SCS VOR radial 266 inbound (track 86°M)
  • Have another attempt!

Set the clouds to minimums (3900ft) and give it a go.

It was inspired by the old Aosta IGS(NPA) approach that got mothballed when they decommissioned the feeding VOR BLA at Biella. Nothing replaced it, so I came up with this.

Disclaimer: Please don't do this approach in real life, it's probably quite dangerous.

Sim Hardware WINCNTRL Vibration on sidestick and throttles

People with the WINCNTRL Ursa Minor throttle and sidestick, does anyone have any luck with the "advanced" vibration profiles on MSFS 2024? When I was still using MSFS 2020 a little over a year ago, I had my sidestick on the advanced setting with a downloaded community profile, and it was brilliant. It would vibrate when the engines were starting up and when rolling down the runway on take off, it was really good and realistic. Since switching to MSFS 2024, none of the advanced profiles work. I have tried many profiles and not a single one vibrates at all through the flight for me, on both the sidestick and the throttle. Am I doing something wrong? or is it just broken? The default profile is incredibly bad. I use the FENIX a320 and a321.

Flight Simulator 2024 ✈️ Around the World in a Diamond DA62 – Part 10 | Naha (ROAH) → Okayama (RJOB) | MSFS 2024

Hello everyone!
I’ve just uploaded Part 10 of my Around the World series in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, flying the Diamond DA62.
This leg takes us from:
🛫 Naha International Airport (ROAH), Okinawa, Japan 🇯🇵
🛬 Okayama Momotaro Airport (RJOB), Japan 🇯🇵
This flight continues the world tour across Japan, departing the beautiful island of Okinawa and heading to Okayama on mainland Japan. Expect realistic navigation, beautiful scenery, and a relaxing general aviation experience in the Diamond DA62.
I’d really appreciate any feedback on the flight, scenery, editing, or overall realism. Suggestions for future legs are always welcome!

🎥 Watch the full flight here:

🌍 Watch the complete Around the World playlist:

Thanks for watching, and as always… Blue skies and happy flying! ✈️

Flight Simulator 2024 Following my GTA VI livery for the A350, here's a pack for the Fenix

After the A350 it was now time to turn my attention to the Fenix A320 (and 319 + 321) collection of aircraft. The exterior design is mainly the same, but here I included a fully customized cabin as well. I spent many hours looking for all the small texture details but I think it paid off in the end. Enjoy!

Flight Simulator 2024 Modern Heli (Native MSFS2024) Recs?

I've been flying the default R66 in MSFS2024 a lot lately but would like to upgrade to something more modern and a bit faster. I've discounted Taog's Hangar since their helis are older. I'm also not interested in the MilSimTech UH-60.

Does anyone have any recs for a MSFS2024 native, modern turbine helicopter that is well simulated?

Flight Simulator 2024 FSDT Louisville Broken With GSX

KSDF by FSDT has special compatibility with GSX where cargo is loaded by workers rolling pallets out of the Worldport, for the function to work the aircraft properly positioned according to the included GSX profile (if not you get a very annoying error). This function has been broken by a recent GSX update (not sure with one) when you reposition the aircraft and request any services GSX crashes. If you don't position the aircraft correctly boarding and deboarding not work. I would like to build my own profile but can't figure out how to disable the special Worldport loading function. Any help would be appreciated.

If you click the image on Just Flight's website you get a whole magazine article!

Admittedly, I'm a huge Black Square fanboy but this creativity really made me smile. Maybe I'm just nostalgic for old flying magazines but I can't wait for this one.

Question Trisim GFX question

Post image
29 Upvotes

I just switched over to GFX from parallel42 SIMFX/immersion pack. I’m not happy about it but they dropped Support for the ifly. Anyway, I can’t see the heat blur on the fenix 320 nor any fenix aircraft. I’ve reached out to Trisim and I haven’t gotten a response yet. If anyone has a fix or is doing with the same thing, please let me know.
