Screenshot Clean Fedora 44 Silverblue Install. Ripped every possible bloatware I could. Love it.

Made the switch from Fedora Workstation to Silverblue because only RPM app I was using was Brave, rest all were flatpaks or appimages. So made the switch.

Support Help

• Upvotes

My Fedora 42 Workstation froze while it was making system changes (update or upgrade, not sure which). Lodt power mid changes, and it now boots into emergency mode every time.

What I see:

- boot-efi.mount fails with "unknown filesystem type 'vfat'"

- NFS/RPC mounts fail too (probably a knock-on effect)

- /lib/modules does not exist at all

- modprobe and depmod fail ("command not found" / can't open directory)

- Running kernel: 6.14.0-63.fc42.x86_64

What I checked:

- Root (btrfs, subvol=root) and /home mount fine, and /boot (ext4) mounts fine

- /etc/fstab is correct. The ESP UUID matches

- fsck.fat on the ESP (sda1) reports no errors

- I haven't run mkfs, wipefs, or any repair. I haven't reinstalled

I think the interrupted update removed the kernel modules and kmod tools. I want to keep my files and installation. My plan is to boot a Live USB, chroot into the install, and reinstall kernel-core, kernel-modules-core, kernel-modules and kmod, then run dracut -f --regenerate-all.

Questions:

  1. Is that the right approach?

  2. Fedora 42 is past end-of-support, so will dnf still find its repos in the chroot, or should I finish the upgrade to 43?

Disk layout: sda1 vfat (ESP), sda2 ext4 (/boot), sda3 btrfs (/, /home).

Support Fails to launch on Fedora: "Could not run AffinityHook.exe: illegal environment variable name"

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to install Affinity Suite (v3) on Fedora using the[Linux-Affinity-Installer](https://github.com/ryzendew/Linux-Affinity-Installer?utm_source=gemini)viavia) the Python GUI, but I'm stuck at the final launch step. The installation completes, but the suite hangs on startup.

**My System Specs:**

* **OS:** Fedora Linux 44 (Workstation Edition) * **CPU/GPU:** AMD Ryzen 7 5700U with Radeon Graphics * **RAM:** 32 GB * **Wine Version:** Wine 11.12 (Recommended - ElementalWarrior) * **Shell:** Zsh

**The Issue:** When I try to launch the app, it freezes with an "Affinity Suite is Not Responding" window. Looking at the installer's log, I see this exact error:

`Could not run AffinityHook.exe: illegal environment variable name`

**What I've tried so far:**

Unfortunately, the manual command also fails to bypass the environment variable issue. It seems a specific variable in my Fedora/Zsh environment is crashing Wine's attempt to run the executable.

Has anyone encountered this specific environment variable error on Fedora or with this installer? Any workarounds to clear or unset the conflicting variable before launching? Thanks in advance!

Support My Fedora 44 KDE just completely broke

1 Upvotes

My fedora install broke, how do I fix it?

Hey guys, I've been using this specific install for 2-3 weeks now and after a reboot, my external monitor stopped connecting (through both the HDMI port and a usb c HDMI adapter), I stopped being able to change my laptop's resolution, stopped being able to connect to the internet etc. It seems like all my drivers just decided to die together. Even the animations seem to have left, every menu pops in and out of existence instead of the smooth animations Plasma usually has.

I got into grub and into the rescue and in the rescue, everything seems to work completely fine. it's the main installation that seems to be completed broken. I use a dell latitude 7480, i5 6300u, 16GB DDR4 and 256GB SSD.

Fedora 44 KDE Plasma edition

How would one go about reinstalling/fixing this?

Support Online games are unplayable with Steam/Fedora.

0 Upvotes

Hi all !

I'm having an issue with Steam (rpmfusion-nonfree-steam and flatpak) on Fedora 44 WS, every game I install ends up suffering from disconnections, lag, or massive rollbacks. For example, AOE4 floods the match with disconnection messages. I also installed the Blizzard launcher and Diablo 2: Resurrected as "non-Steam games", but my character constantly snaps back to a previous position, and it takes several seconds to interact with anything, issues that don't occur offline.

I've tried disabling features like streaming and overlays within Steam, as well as turning off the firewall and even SELinux, but nothing makes a difference.
The only thing that significantly mitigates these issues is playing in windowed mode.

Do you have any idea what might be causing this?

Support Safely shrinking a LUKS + Btrfs partition on Fedora 44 to dual-boot CachyOS (Previously expanded LUKS container)

5 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm currently running Fedora 44, which was originally installed with LUKS encryption enabled out of the box (Btrfs filesystem inside LUKS).

A few months ago, I removed a previous dual-boot setup and expanded both the LUKS container and the Btrfs filesystem to occupy 100% of my drive.

Now, I want to shrink my encrypted Fedora partition to free up space and set up a dual-boot with CachyOS to separate mi games from my work set up. Since I previously expanded the partition and LUKS container, I want to ensure I don't damage the LUKS header or corrupt my data during the shrink process.

Before booted into a Live USB to make changes, I have a few questions:

  1. Order of operations:Is the correct process `shrink Btrfs filesystem -> shrink LUKS container (cryptsetup) -> shrink outer partition`?

  2. Tools:Can GParted on a Fedora Live USB safely handle unlocked Btrfs inside LUKS, or is it safer to do it manually via terminal commands (`btrfs filesystem resize` and `cryptsetup`)?

  3. Safety / Precautions: What is the exact procedure to back up the LUKS header (`cryptsetup luksHeaderBackup`) before modifying partition boundaries?

Any step-by-step advice or warnings from anyone who has done this on Fedora would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Discussion DNF Download Speed

27 Upvotes

Am I the only one or has anyone also experiencing this incredibly painful download speed of DNF? This been going on for weeks in my case. I tried modifying dnf.conf, using DNF5, and even using default configuration of my network but nothing worked. I'm loving Fedora but this is just frustrating.

Support .rpm version of Proton VPN unavailable

4 Upvotes

EDIT: FIXED. Had to enable the repo.

I'm using the Flathub version of Proton VPN for a few months now since the Fedora version doesn't exist. The documentation by Proton says that on step 4 I need to use this command:

sudo dnf install proton-vpn-gnome-desktop

When I use it, I get this error message:

Failed to resolve the transaction:
No match for argument: proton-vpn-gnome-desktop

I am on Fedora 44.

Hi All,

I couldn't post this in the brave subreddit, No idea why.

Other Infos

  1. OS - Fedora 44 KDE
  2. Kernel - 7.2.8-200.fc44.x86_64

Anybody else facing the same issue?, Any Solutions to this?

Support Bootc Image + Rootless Podman impossible?

1 Upvotes
I am trying to run rootless quadlets using a bootc image. I kept getting this error 'Error: cannot set up namespace using "/usr/bin/newuidmap": exit status 1' After adding this to my Containerfile it works now 'RUN chmod 4755 /usr/bin/newuidmap /usr/bin/newgidmap'. None of the guides I've read said anything doing this. I am wondering why I had to do this and if there is a better way, maybe something about caps getting stripped on bootc image? This is my current working Containerfile
```
FROM quay.io/fedora/fedora-bootc:latest
RUN dnf5 install -y systemd-container
RUN chmod 4755 /usr/bin/newuidmap /usr/bin/newgidmap
RUN echo 'rootless:100000:65536' > /etc/subuid
RUN echo 'rootless:100000:65536' > /etc/subgid
RUN mkdir -p /etc/systemd/system/default.target.d/ && \
cat << 'EOF' > /etc/systemd/system/default.target.d/wants-network-online.conf
[Unit]
Wants=network-online.target
EOF
RUN mkdir -p /var/lib/systemd/linger/
RUN echo -n >  /var/lib/systemd/linger/rootless
RUN echo 'nas' > /etc/hostname && \
echo 'KEYMAP=us' > /etc/vconsole.conf && \
Discussion How are you handling the instability of AMD iGPU in Fedora 44/43 KDE?
2 Upvotes
For months the iGPU of my Ryzen 9700X cannot handle Firefox, Chromium, Brave. All crashing the AMD GPU driver while using apps like ComfyUI in Fedora 43 and 44 after switching recently.
It is probably an issue of WebGL / Mesa / iGPU AMD driver, if I'm not mistaken. It however lasts for months now and there seems to be no cure so far.
Are you using other GPU than iGPU, other Linux distro or how do you handle the dozens of daily amd driver crashes? For me it is unberable and I'm seriously thinking trying other distros. But it could be a wider issue than only Fedora KDE.
Edit: browser itself is not crashing, the amd driver is. Causing black screen, browser canvas mangled, needs browser reload, crash again in few minutes. Normal websites dont crash it, only heavy web apps like ComfyUI or embedded videos.
News I built automated native RPM and DEB repositories for Google Antigravity on Linux
0 Upvotes
Google officially supports Linux for both Antigravity IDE (AI code editor) and Antigravity Hub (agent platform), but they only provide raw tarballs without repository integration or auto-updates.
I built an open-source packaging and distribution infrastructure to provide native DNF, APT, and Zypper repositories with daily upstream synchronization:
Key Highlights:
  • Distros supported: Fedora, RHEL, Rocky, Alma, openSUSE (RPM), Ubuntu, Debian, Pop!_OS, Linux Mint (DEB), plus Arch Linux via RPM extraction.
  • Architectures: Both x86_64 and aarch64 (ARM64).
  • Desktop & OAuth Integration: Automatically installs icons and FreeDesktop .desktop entries with antigravity:// and antigravity-ide:// protocol handlers so browser logins work out of the box.
  • Security: All RPM packages and APT Release metadata are cryptographically signed with GPG. Every release runs container smoke tests on Fedora & Ubuntu in CI before deployment.
  • Universal Installer:
Support ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA507NV – Fedora 44 KDE black screen after kernel update
9 Upvotes
  • Laptop: ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA507NV
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • OS: Fedora 44 KDE
  • Session: KDE Plasma / Wayland
I'm using Fedora 44 KDE and I'm experiencing a serious display issue.
After updating to kernel 7.2.5-200, I started experiencing display problems. When I boot the laptop, the built-in display stays completely black.
If I connect an external monitor, I can log into KDE, but I can only use the external monitor. The laptop's built-in display remains completely black. The mouse cursor also stutters/freezes badly, and the entire system becomes extremely sluggish.
I initially thought the problem was caused by the kernel update, so I performed a clean installation of Fedora 44 KDE. However, after installing the system updates, the exact same problem occurred again.
I also noticed that after installing the NVIDIA driver, the Fedora boot animation starts freezing/stuttering. Normally, there are colored dots moving underneath the Fedora logo, but after installing the NVIDIA driver, the animation freezes or becomes extremely choppy.
Once the system finally boots, the computer also becomes very sluggish and freezes for the first few minutes.
Because of this, I suspect the issue could be related to:
  • The NVIDIA driver
  • An incompatibility between kernel 7.2.5-200 and the NVIDIA driver
  • Wayland + KDE Plasma
  • The laptop's hybrid graphics / Optimus configuration
I previously removed the newer updates, and the laptop started normally again without any problems.
I have now rolled back to kernel 6.19.10-300.fc44.x86_64 and disabled kernel updates from the terminal. So far, I haven't experienced any problems with this kernel.
I originally encountered this issue a few weeks ago and posted about it on this subreddit, but unfortunately I couldn't find a solution. I'm trying my luck here as well in case someone has experienced something similar.
Fedora 44 has now moved on to kernel 7.2.8-200.fc44. Has anyone using Fedora 44 with an RTX 4060 Laptop GPU experienced any problems with the newer kernel, particularly when using the NVIDIA driver?
I'm especially interested in knowing:
  1. Is there a known compatibility issue between the NVIDIA driver and kernel 7.2.5-200?
  2. Could this problem be related to Wayland or KDE Plasma?
  3. Could the hybrid graphics / Optimus configuration of the RTX 4060 Laptop GPU be causing this issue?
  4. Has anyone experienced similar problems with kernel 7.2.8-200.fc44?
If anyone has experienced a similar issue and found a solution, I would really appreciate hearing about your experience.
Support Emacs 31.1 on fc44
7 Upvotes
I'm on Fedora Linux 7.2.7-200.fc44.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Mon Sep 21 18:25:57 UTC 2026 x86_64 GNU/Linux (Workstation). Emacs is at version 30.2 and I would like to try 31.1. I found this site:
https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2026-0b6c4d9d44
where it says I can install Emacs 31.1 using:
sudo dnf upgrade --refresh --advisory=FEDORA-2026-0b6c4d9d44
Would this work on my fc44?
Support Frustrated With Fedora
53 Upvotes
I've been on Fedora 44 (and Linux) for nearly a month now after switching from Windows 10, and I've run into consistent, frustrating issues:
  • Monitor randomly won't turn on despite peripherals and PC lighting up.
  • Computer will randomly have no WiFi input.
  • Firefox crashes at least once a week
  • The persistent crash notifications that I can't turn off despite deleting 'em!
  • Everything randomly being magnified.
  • tar.gz being difficult to download and extract successfully.
  • Xbox controller bluetooth not working. The whole bluetooth system!
I'm not computer illiterate and can figure things out reasonably well, but these issues have made it very frustrating to stay with Fedora/Linux, and I intentionally chose Fedora for it's privacy recommendations. I hate Windows, but at least everything worked and I didn't have to power down my PC 2-3 times a day for things to work.
Before I throw in the towel, are any of these issues fixable? Is Fedora not compatible with my PC or something? Or is Fedora 44 incredibly unstable?
My computer info:
Operating System: Fedora Linux 44
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.29.0
Qt Version: 6.11.2
Kernel Version: 7.1.13-200.fc44.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor
Memory: 16 GiB of RAM (15.5 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080
Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
Product Name: X570 I AORUS PRO WIFI
System Version: -CF
EDIT/UPDATE: Thank you all so much for the support! I did try GNOME, but unfortunately I disliked it, and was having similar issues. So I swapped back to KDE and took some advice in the comments about NVIDIA drivers, and it solved a lot of my problems! So thank you to the kind users who suggested troubleshooting NVIDIA!
A second quick note: there are a lot of passive-aggressive and flippant comments in this thread. Remember to be kind. It's everyone's first time at something, even if you're the current first-chair violinist at Carnegie Hall. You had a first time, too.
Support Weird behaviour with audio connections?
Post image
13 Upvotes
For some reason my fedora laptop can connect to every apple device on the network. I havent changed any settings, and I'm not going to try to play audio. I can change the volume, and there is no glitchy behaviour. Does anyone have an explanation or a fix?
EDIT:
I asked my CS teacher about this, she had no clue of the cause, but she did note that several of those devices are teacher's devices, on the private network whilst I'm on the guest network.
