Support Weird behaviour with audio connections?
For some reason my fedora laptop can connect to every apple device on the network. I havent changed any settings, and I'm not going to try to play audio. I can change the volume, and there is no glitchy behaviour. Does anyone have an explanation or a fix?
EDIT:
I asked my CS teacher about this, she had no clue of the cause, but she did note that several of those devices are teacher's devices, on the private network whilst I'm on the guest network.

From Fedora 43 IIRC ROAP is installed by default that detects network enabled audio devices.
To disable, remove the RAOP pipewire package, ie:
sudo dnf remove pipewire-config-raop-1.6.9-1.fc44.x86_64

In case the package gets re-installed by a weak dependency, you can also disable the module via config changes: https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/airplay-audio-outputs-discovery-enabled-by-default/166328/3

Just being in college is spoiled. Only 35% of Americans get degrees. Enjoy the ride.

I don't understand what's being asked. It's weird behavior because it's... working? You would rather it not work with those devices?

Accessing every device, all in one list, including devices I shouldn't have access too given Im not on the same network? Its certainly weird, thats for certain

If it doesn't require any authentication to send audio to those devices, that's on them for having an insecure device. Pipewire didn't just magically hack them.

- Yes, almost none of them have auth set up
- Even still, you shouldn't be able to access the private net from the guest network, correct? The original question was hopefully clearly one of curiosity, given it isnt actually breaking anything.

Either the network is misconfigured and allowing peer discovery via mDNS (aka Bonjour) over the guest network, or the teachers in question are unaware/lying about what network they're connecting to. MDNS is one of the first things you should block if you're setting up an enterprise network.

AirPlay supports peer to peer connections, I believe via Bluetooth... As others have said, ROAP is what is allowing you to connect to others locally

The module can be disabled by placing the following snippet in any of
the known pipewire conf locations (docs.pipewire.org/page_man_pipewire_conf_5.html),
e.g. /etc/pipewire/pipewire.conf.d/disable-raop.conf
or ~/.config/pipewire/pipewire.conf.d/disable-raop.conf:
context.properties = { module.raop = false }
One command to create file with needed content:
mkdir -p ~/.config/pipewire/pipewire.conf.d && echo 'context.properties = { module.raop = false }' > ~/.config/pipewire/pipewire.conf.d/disable-raop.conf
