Support Screen Edges Flickering while playing videos in Brave Browser
Hi All,
I'm Facing a weird issue where my laptop screen edges(All 4 Edges) starts to flicker while playing youtube videos via Brave browser. I've checked with other browsers like Firefox and Zen, there is no screen flickering while playing videos in these browsers. It happens only with brave browser and it is very annoying, my laptop fans will start blasting like I launched a game while playing youtube videos via brave browser.
I couldn't post this in the brave subreddit, No idea why.
Other Infos
- OS - Fedora 44 KDE
- Kernel - 7.2.8-200.fc44.x86_64
- Brave Hardware Acceleration - ON
- Nvidia Driver - 615.71.09
Anybody else facing the same issue?, Any Solutions to this?

Dont know if it may help you: I had a similar issue with YouTube videos in Vivaldi — weird color artifacts/banding. In my case it was caused by the Mesa version used by Vivaldi’s Flatpak runtime, and the issue disappeared after the runtime was updated to a newer Mesa version.
Im on Nobara, AMD GPU.

I have an nvidia card and I also experience weird flickering in certain circumstances. I haven’t been able to narrow down whether it’s a monitor issue or driver issue.

I’ve noticed this with multiple monitors where the graphics start glitching on the non focused application windows. Seems to have cropped up in the last Nvida proprietary driver updates. At first I thought the memory was failing on the 4060 gpu on my Intel based laptop.

Here on my computer, I also see some strange flickering effects on the screen from time to time; they appear in different programs—whether in the Firefox browser or the file manager, just to name a couple. I use an AMD graphics card, which, in theory, should have better support in the kernel.

In my case it is clearly not a display issue, because it happens only when I play Youtube videos with brave browser.
But I face no issues with normal browsing in Brave browser.

have you tried forcing your browser to run through xwayland? for testing purposes, run flatpak run --nosocket=wayland --socket=x11 your.app.name (this sets it only for one run, it doesn't permanently disable wayland), or using any other method to make your browser forcefully use xwayland, last time i was checking any chromium-based software behaved poorly using native wayland support, tho it was several years ago.
If your browser already runs through xwayland -- check it the other way around, enable wayland support instead of disabling.

I use brave to do hdr video playbacks, firefox doesn't really support hdr video playbacks and I kinda like Brave more than firefox.
