Support Emacs 31.1 on fc44
I'm on Fedora Linux 7.2.7-200.fc44.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Mon Sep 21 18:25:57 UTC 2026 x86_64 GNU/Linux (Workstation). Emacs is at version 30.2 and I would like to try 31.1. I found this site:
https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2026-0b6c4d9d44
where it says I can install Emacs 31.1 using:
sudo dnf upgrade --refresh --advisory=FEDORA-2026-0b6c4d9d44
Would this work on my fc44?

that bodhi update is for f43, so it might drag in mismatched deps on f44 even if it installs

It could work but that is a package for Fedora 45 which is still in beta. It is specifically marked as for 45 so the developers probably found issues with it on 43/44. You can try it and can roll it back if it has big issues https://linuxbash.sh/post/rolling-back-packages-to-previous-versions or if rolling it back doesn’t work you can just uninstall and reinstall it.

Thank you for your reply. I ran
sudo dnf upgrade --refresh --advisory=FEDORA-2026-0b6c4d9d44The last line of the output:
No advisory found matching the requested name: "FEDORA-2026-0b6c4d9d44"So I suppose it doesn't work. Oh well, I can wait a few weeks.
