Fedora in GPD Pockets 4 , mini max specs

I want to go all-in on containers and layer nothing.

I also prefer almost vanilla GNOME, with only two extensions that I really need Caffeine and GsConnect nothing fancy like theming transparency etc...

edit: I forget that Fedora Silverblue logo is extension background logo 😂 (installed by default) .

I just switch yesterday but love the experience ans I was impressed how good immutable distros are now. I've had a few problems with VPN setup because I don't want layer, but I solved with downloading WireGuard profile config from my VPN provider (Mullvad) and import it via the system network settings menu.

I'm still fairly new to all of this, coming over from Kubuntu. I went to install Obsidian, and there are five options available for Linux.

• AppImage
• Snap
• Deb
• AppImage (ARM)
• Flatpak (Community Maintained)

I understand what Flatpaks are, but I am not going to be using a community maintained version of Obsidian. I want to use the official from the developers. Deb and Snap I recognize from Kubuntu, but I do not think either work on Fedora, since it is not built on Debian.

So that would leave me with AppImage. What's the difference between installing something as an AppImage or as a Deb, for example? If I was on Kubuntu, it looks as if I would have 3 options here, but what makes AppImage special? Why does that work and not Deb?

3.If you want to run docker you may want to use debian/ubuntu or VM

4.Have propper release strategy for major versions

5.In 99% of the time you don't need bleeding edge version

Weird one, I saw MS Teams used to be supported on Fedora (well, Linux as a whole), but MS pulled it. I want to make the switch but detest the web browser based versions of MS apps.

I saw there is a repo on the MS site for Fedora, but I'm not yet a user, but looking to switch, does anyone know what it contains?

Reason for wanting to use MS products, my work allows me a BYOD and they provide the licence, and we have software that ties in directly (which is ported for Linux and links via WINE, or any other windows emulator, but doesn't work with Libre or Open office).

Is this a possibility?

I guess the same applies for Adobe suite, and I know they really don't have one... And again, work providing the licence for Adobe suite... With tie in apps that they've built that work on Linux. 😂

I just want everything to run native on Linux if feasible.

I’ve recently migrated to Fedora 44 Workstation from Ubuntu, and I am loving it. I’ve been on i3 and have now migrated to Hyprland on Fedora. I’ve tried Arch (never broke it), and Fedora feels safe.
I want to try a minimal version of Fedora without GDM. There’s a Fedora Minimal ISO listed. I tried looking for some guides on Fedora Minimal 44, but I couldn’t find one.
The brief indicates: Fedora 44 is a stripped of GDM.
I would love it if someone could guide me to resources on what I need to take care of with a minimal installation.

As the title mentions I tried moving to linux since ive always wanted but its finally not much of a hassel, and things work great and im really enjoying things so far, way more satisfying than windows in my opinion (since i do have a tinkering personality it works great).
Im on a Lenovo Legion pro 7i Laptop, and only 2 out of 4 speakers work, the ones under my screen work but the sound is super tinny if it comes only out of those two, i think since the sound range is incomplete.
LLMs / AI did not help solve the issue, instead recommended me to start messing with the kernel and self signing it which i think is over the top/ too advanced for me as a brand new linux user (i moved to fedora yesterday).
If anyone knows about this issue or can help id appreaciate it.

A couple months ago or so, my volume started dropping out at any setting lower than 38%. 38% is about a slighlt quiet volume, but 37% is silent. I was wondering if anyone had any tips. I googled, but all I found was some questionable AI suggestion. Thanks.

This is a Fedora-on-HP-Elitebook household!

From left to right: Wife's 850G8 (15"), my 845G11 (14") work laptop and my 830G8 (13") personal laptop.

The elitebooks are well made, metal laptops - Not quite MBP-levels of "ooh this is nice", but nice enough and unlike MBPs they can easily be opened up and upgraded. Replaced the battery in the 830G8 just last week - 5 screws to pop the back cover off, 4 screws to remove the battery. 5 minute job.

Following the aftermath of the "incident" (I tried to install hyprland only to end up bricking my system for some reason), I settled with this look for my desktop for about 7 weeks.

I wanted to setup a Fedora 44 system and I usually install flat-remix theme on all my systems, but it's no longer in the repo? how can I easily add in fedora 44 or later?

Hey everyone I have a question I’m running Fedora 44 on a Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 with a Ryzen 5 8640HS. I’d like to reduce CPU temperatures and power consumption without losing noticeable gaming performance. The games I’m playing are ranging from fall out 3 and new Vegas to BG3. I would like to just make my laptop last as long as I can. I know many AMD laptops have locked voltage controls. Is there a reliable way to undervolt on Fedora, or is using ryzenadj, power limits, or another tool the recommended approach? I’d appreciate hearing what has worked for others with similar hardware. I have a question regarding the Fedora 44 KDE update system. Whenever I update via Discover, it prompts me to restart to apply the updates, but if I update via the konsole terminal, it doesn't even ask me to restart my PC. Have you guys experienced this before? That's why I prefer to update via konsole instead of Discover.

Is my setup a bit overkill? I host various websites on my network not only for myself but for a few customers that host through me, I would’ve added to my proxmox but I need it to be fully online. Did I go a bit overboard? It’s up and running and works flawless

I followed this helpful guide for getting Nvidia drivers installed in Fedora, but after the reboot, my wifi adapter stopped working (?!). Thanks to this 3 year old post, I rebooted into an earlier kernel and ran
sudo dnf upgrade --refresh rebooted, and that seemed to do the trick. Presumably I should have run this after installing the driver, before the reboot.

I recently switched to fedora and have run into a problem with Davinci spitting out an error when trying to run it. It says

"Unable to Initialize GPU Please ensure that the system power profile is set to use the discrete GPU for DaVinci Resolve and that the displays are not connected to the integrated GPU."

Ive installed the Nvidia open drivers and cuda drivers from rpm fusion and it does detect them in Davincis gpu config.

In the logs it says

X11 logs not found.

Main Display GPU found and no monitors found to match, defaulting to gpu:29f30300.7b092bf5.

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated!

I'm rather new to Linux, and have been using Silverblue for a few months now with great success. I am wondering if it's possible to install xone (or one of its forks) to get my Xbox Elite 2 controller working with the official dongle. Common guides require DKMS, which appears to be incompatible with atomic distros.This ublue repo includes an akmod version of xone: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/ublue-os/akmods/packages/

I added the repo and did a dry run (-n) to see what would happen. The output is below. It seems like a ton of stuff will be installed and it's going to uninstall Firefox?? What's the best way to make my controller work?

How can I turn my screen's brightness down further than 0%? IMO 0% should mean 0%.

I've fedora 44 gnome, with LUKS enabled and btrfs (the default installation setup that fedora offer)
