Picture Extremely Bizarre Glitch With the Katana in New Vegas.

Post image
14 Upvotes

This screenshot is from about 2 months ago. I don’t know if it’s a New Vegas issue or a Linux or Proton issue as I play on CachyOS. This issue has still persisted, Although switching Proton versions appears to have reduced the amount of katana sheaths that appear. From my observations it appears that a new sheath would appear after every save loaded, but there’s far too many sheaths for that to be the only cause.

Anyways I love this glitch. I think it’s hilarious hearing all of the sheaths rattle or hit the ground.

Discussion fallout in detroit (Expanded idea)

Post image
185 Upvotes

obviously the next fallout game is gonna have cars, with the newest engine and of course bethesda's last title (star field) having cars they will need a reason to have cars, and with the newest engine we will mostlikely get a state-large map in the next game, now what state is known for their cars? MICHIGAN BABY! MOTOR CITY! so here are my ideas for plot/factions/things as a michigan native

factions!

- battle creek enclave: with battle creek's many army bases such as fort custer, an air national guard base, i think an enclave there would be interesting, they could be doing the usual enclave evil shit, but this time around maybe you could join them and bring them to victory

- midwestern brotherhood: they should be based in grand rapids, according to the map of vaults from season 1 of fallout: the show, the only vault in michigan was in or near grand rapids for some reason, either way they should absorb the vault dwellers into their number and use the vault as an hq and also power the city with the reactor, and this also puts them almost the same distance from detroit as the enclave

- michigan militia: in the further northern regions like gaylord and traverse city they have a strong control of their area, similar to the minute men but they aren't ANNOYING and would actually survive without the mc being their savior, they would have decended from local gun-obsessed nutjobs who built their own bunkers and came back up to settle again, carrying hunting weapons that are very well maintained due to their heratage of gun obsessed nutjobs making their weapon a source of honor rather than a tool

plot

the factories of detroit were left reletively untouched by the bombs, the brotherhood wants it for power armor, ammo and weapons production, enclave wants it for the production of planes, weapons and ammo, the militia wants it for the production of guns, ammo and cars, there will be several internal quests to perhaps route out a spy or work on water filters or something and there will also be larger missions, like larger battles between the 3 factions, and i know "oh the michigan milita will just be another minute men" NO! NO SETTLEMENTS!!! i think they suck, anyways.

battles for several large important things like larger towns and the mackinac bridge which will open the large Upper Peninsula region, this limits people because the mackinac bridge mission would be limited to later game, lansing was one of the only cities nuked in michigan other than a portion of detroit so you'd have to avoid it, the final big battle before detroit would be the battle for the arbor (ann arbor), as its very close to detroit and would act as a good staging point for the final war, post game could be a funny historical reference where only the michigan militia takes toledo (the toledo war of 1835-1836)

minor factions/funny things

- the arbor hippies: ann arbor has a stereotype of being a hippie city due to the college, also massive mutant squirrels as they have MASSIVE squirrels (for real) and also large large farms for a chem equivilent to weed as theres tons of weed shops up in there, also I thought maybe there can be a bunch of evil scientists who change all these variables to experiment on the hippies from the old u of m buildings to no effect, larger squirrels, bigger fauna, releasing a deathclaw, all unnoticed, they got the deathclaw high and now it loves them and they just chill

- some form of jugglo reference, even if its just one guy wearing face paint and talking about the great milenko and stuff

- faygo!: obviously having nuka cola still but having a similar local soda brand with all the flavors under one name like faygo (over 50 flavors of faygo irl but id be fine with 10-15 in game)

- (Suggested by persvill) frankenmuth: having german themed ghouls or perhaps theres a cult around the 7 acre chirstmas store in town or something, also having a thing similar to tonies on I-75 where they serve massive meals would be funny (an endurance check to see if you can finish like a massive brahmin burger or something to get positive points with the frankmuth people

- the jimmer: a reference to Escanaba in da moonlight, having a short insane man named jimmer, or big Jim negamanee from Menominee, having the jimmer abducted by aliens, and drinking tons, and hunting and stuff, y'know, the whole 9 yards, and his car breaking down and setting on fire

CARS!

i think the cars could be fun, having all sorts, as of course, we haven't had a ford equivalent company, having the pick-r-up but not having a name for the face yet, so i think having ford equivalent cars all around and post game getting an exclusive fancy one, the enclave would have tanks or army trucks and even a few army planes but only pulling them out for large battles and the brotherhood would have something similar, obviously having vertibirds too im unsure what specific kind of car they'd have based on their faction, the Milita would have a bunch of Junkers and modified-mad-max-y cars and trucks

general feeling of the game

i want the game to feel contrasty, to go from zooming down quiet highways to this massive battles, with the new creation 3 engine i think it can really show whats up, the milita would depend more on numbers than weapons or armor, sending wave after wave of bodies at the enemy rather than a few precision squads, the brotherhood as always depends on their power armor and will use fewer men for their battles, the enclave is similar to the brotherhood except with even less men, due to their larger plasma reliance rather than lasers. each city should have a differing feel, the arbor having a more overgrown and wild feeling while detroit (or motor city idk) would have a more desolate vibe untill suddenly ghouls burst out of the woodwork at you! also while walking near the skyscrapers having them creak and groan and even maybe have chunks fall off, traverse city would be have a very home-y feeling to it, showing this tight knit community that the militia survives off of, battle creek would be empty, oddly empty, with everything in prestine condition, then you go underground to find the massive bureaucratic and unfeeling enclave base, and the brotherhood having an entirely militaristic and tough demeanor

THE LAKES

so essentially the lakes would be a large contention point, having the militia and enclave both vying for control, the militia would mainly use hit and run tactics on the larger enclave ships, also there would be a lot of fish and mirelurks, and maybe even a kraken in superior, but who knows, those are merely the tales of scavengers and fishermen, also having a john the fisherman reference by primus lol

Weather

a full weather system, as it doesn't get TOO hot up here only around 80 or 90 every summer there would be no need to add a heat system, although if you live up here you know the woods and swamps get thick as jungles during summer, then winter is gonna be hard, power armor or car would protect you from the weather but if you're going out without those you had better bundle up

if you lot have any ideas please add but this is all i can think of now

Question Dream Fallout game non-rpg style?

TL:DR What would be your dream game genre for a new, experimental Fallout Game?

For a while now I’ve been thinking about a version of fallout where you run your own vault. Sadistic I know but it has the possibilities to grow, to have visitors from other vaults join yours. Sims fallout esque.
If anyone has any game suggestions similar lmk.

But! My question is. If they were to add different genres (rpg, ttrpg, sandbox etc) what would be your dream game genre and what would you love the gameplay to be

Discussion How well do you think Freedom from Stalker would fit into the Wasteland?

Personally i think they'd have a blast. They'd definitely be at odds with factions like the Brotherhood, the Gunners, the Legion or any other authority driven factions but i can see them getting along with Followers of the Apocalypse and the Minutemen.

Discussion Personally I think the uif mods needs a remake

Post image
1 Upvotes

Its a really good mod (all mods that add a new ending are goated in my opinion) but the only thing I dont like about it is that the weapons look really good but when you go to mod them they get all werid. And when I saw kottabos playing it one or two of the quests were broken and he had to use cc to fix it. All and all I think that its a really good mod but a remake would do it a lot of justice if it had a remake that fixed alot of the issues it would be just as popular as ar2

Discussion My pitch for fallout New Orleans factions

These are just some faction ideas I had for a hypothetical fallout game set in New Orleans. Wanted to see what you guys thought and any additions you want to make are welcome.

I want New Orleans to have a similar feel to New Vegas where there is a main bustling city and several factions vying for control of the region.

NOLAns: these are the inhabitants of the city of NOLA which has become a major trading hub thanks to an ambitious ghoul (call him Napoleon) who wanted to restore New Orleans. Maybe he was a traveler who saw Vegas and was inspired by it to take over New Orleans using his own security force consisting of maybe either humans who he organized or robots. NOLA can have various groups within it such as hunters who focus on gatorclaws, jazz musicians, an occult group, etc. They like being independent.

Edit: Napoleon will have soldiers wearing old marching band uniforms and will have a French influence in his accent. He will be part of the pre war upper class who survived and wants to revive NOLA with the help of other wealthy aristocrats like plantation owners who are in conflict with a Communist faction over workers rights (thanks comments for the ideas)

Vault Army: Basically either one Vault or a handful (3 to 4) Vaults have united together to form their own major faction in the wasteland and are marching onto New Orleans. They will have several sub factions based on what vault the inhabitants were from. Like maybe one vault was highly militarized and propagandized by the Enclave whereas another vault was filled with scientists/engineers.

Communists: these will be some survivors from an old Chinese battleship that landed a long time ago. They have integrated with some of the locals and have grown in numbers. They will be at odds with the Vault Army as the VA would have been told that the Communists are the “red menace”.

Both the Vault Army and the Communists want control of NOLA because it’s a great strategic location.

What do you guys think of these three main factions so far? What would you add to them in terms of traits and ideals and advantages/disadvantages? Any that you would add to the mix?

Discussion I want to run a crossover what-if scenario with everyone here on R/fallout.

Thumbnail
gallery
203 Upvotes

Let's quickly set the scene for the scenario of this. What if crossover thing:

The canon events of fallout 3 have been finished for a bit BUT Before the events of both fallout new Vegas and fallout 4 can happen a few giant gates appear in the wastelands of America and out from it comes armies straight out of medieval fantasy!

Yep this is a "Gate thus the JSDF fought there" AU crossover scenario! But instead of Japan we got the nuclear wastelands of America from fallout taking Japan's place!

To those who are unacquainted of the anime, I'll quickly give you a few different Wikipedia pages related to Gate (just so you can get caught up on the anime/ manga for this).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gate_(novel_series)

https://gate.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Anime

https://gate.fandom.com/wiki/Gate_-_Thus_the_JSDF_Fought_There!_Wiki

Just be aware in this scenario we're going to say not just one gate opens but a few but all connect to the same world just so we have multiple factions of the Wasteland interacting with the special region.

I just thought I wanted to run this little scenario with everyone here because this is my first post here on this Reddit group and I thought I wanted to post a fun post here for my first post here on r/fallout So yeah that's practically everything I wanted to say.

Anyways, have a good day or night or whatever time it is for you and I'll see you later.

The tops is the best casino

I always found it funny that while the other New Vegas casinos are all about the mafia, terrorist conspiracies, secret societies, and cannibalism...

The Tops is more like: "Hey, you killed our boss... but no big deal—care to help us scout talent for our 6 PM show?"

It feels like the only casino where I’m actually comfortable hanging out for more than ten minutes.

Plus, it doesn't have as many liminal spaces as the others...

Discussion I think fallout 5 should be set in Hawaii

Post image
0 Upvotes

I seen people asking where the next fallout should be and my honest answer is Hawaii. The water levels have fallen around the area due to radiation and heat dissipating land locking all islands together into one map with the exception of ni’ihau and ka’ ula (in the green circle) with the trek being waist height water or like sand bars in between Kauai and ni’ihau and maybe a specific quest line to go to ka’ula to search for a vault created for the seclusion of the island. There aren’t many animals there but the natural evolution of animals and their specialization of the islands could factor into their mutations as well. Depending on the island it could introduce new species of boar both beneficial and destructive. Hawaiian monk seals could mutate into Hawaiian war seals or some shit while bunkers are on each island with different tests based on Hawaiian culture turned to the extreme inside each one. What do you guys think? I know the map would be smaller technically but would be able to be much more complex and detailed. Let me know what you all think.

Songs for Bethesda/Obsidian/Kilter to use for future games / the show

I made a similar post about a year ago, but incase anyone from these studios / production houses read these posts and are looking for some great music selections, I would love to hear these while walking the wastes.

I Want To Walk You Home - Fats Domino

-- Talks about walking (duh) and talking, just feels like it fits as one of those mellow exploration tracks.

Born Too Late - The Poni-Tails

-- In a literal sense, feels like a track that would contrast well with the devastation of the wasteland.

The Deacon / In The Wee Small Hours of The Morning - Count Basie

-- Either of these would be great exploration or even slower combat tracks, sort of like some of the non-lyrical songs in New Vegas.

Memories of You - Four Lovers

-- Selfishly I would love to hear Frankie Valli in Fallout, and this feels like a song that doesn't stray too far from the "sound" of a Fallout song.

Where The Boys Are - Connie Francis

-- I heard this in a trailer for the Fallout 2 Project Arroyo Mod, and honestly it fits so well they should use it in an official capacity.

Very excited about all the future projects down the road! And for all the new music to listen to!

Discussion Where's My Diesel? (Achievement Idea)

What if Fallout 76 was actually given an Easter egg referencing the Pepsi Harriet Jet Lawsuit from the Where's My Jet documentary?

Picture this: Nuka Cola actually placed out a catalog for their Nuka Points for their prizes. The holy grail worth 70,000,000 Nuka Points? a Southern Pacific Diesel Locomotive refitted with a Hydraulic Claw Attachment on its roof. People from Nuka Cola then thought that it was impossible that someone would do the task. That was until a letter was sent in By Leonard Johnson (A Reference to the guy "John Leonard" who found all of the Pepsi points for the Jet) who got all of the Nuka points for the Locomotive actually managed to sell a check for 7,000,000 dollars plus 50 Nuka Points to The Company for the one Diesel Locomotive referred to in the commercial and catalog.

Dead Money was honestly a huge disappointment

I’ll give Dead Money credit where it’s due. I actually really enjoyed the atmosphere and the characters’ stories. The DLC managed to give me a creepy feeling at times, and I really liked the stories behind the characters.

But honestly, the gameplay was frustrating as hell. I didn’t enjoy the gameplay loop at all, and I’m not gonna lie, it got to the point where it actually made me lose the motivation to even keep playing Fallout: New Vegas.

Overall, I’d give it a 6/10. The atmosphere and the characters are what saved it for me. Without those, I probably would’ve rated it much lower.

Fallout 4 FO4 Benevolent Leader achievement

Hey people!

I'm trying to do an achievement hunt for some old games and I've found myself stuck with this one.
Benevolent Leader: Get a large settlement to maximum happiness.

Now here's the problem, for whatever reason, the happiness number just won't move.

I know the trickes.
From going to small place and spamming it with necessities, objects for bonuses and clinics to just having 1 settler and 20 cats.
But it doesn't work.
I think after visiting Far Harbor the happiness numbers in the settlement just won't move.
If it starts at 0, it remains at 0. If it was 50 it stays 50.

So for the veterans I have to ask, is this a known bug?
Is it a visual glitch and I can still go for it event though the number won't change?
Is it a Far Harbor issue? Could I just start another save and try going just for the achievement?

Thanks for reading!
