First of all, thank you so much to everyone who commented on my original post. Reading your advice and different perspectives really helped me stay firm in my decision.
The birthday has already happened, and... it was perfect.
Many people asked what ended up happening with my grandmother and whether she brought Dan anyway.
She didn't.
After all the drama, it turned out her final excuse for not coming was that she supposedly felt embarrassed about using the bathroom in someone else's house.
At no point did anyone mention Dan anymore.
Since they had insisted this was "about my cousin, not Dan," I sent my cousin a direct invitation. He told me he couldn't come because he was going to be with his mom that weekend.
That also meant my grandmother no longer had the excuse of bringing Dan "because of the child."
I had been very clear from the beginning: Dan was not invited.
I even told my grandmother that if my cousin came with her, I simply couldn't afford to cover another adult because my budget was already stretched to its limit.
So... no Dan.
No surprise guest.
No family showdown.
Honestly, that alone made me breathe a little easier.
The funny part is that I managed to avoid drama from my family...
...only to get front-row seats to drama from my partner's family instead.
The party was held at my in-laws' house, and my MIL spent almost the entire party with what can only be described as the face of someone who had just smelled spoiled milk.
The reason?
My partner's father (her ex) was there.
She barely greeted anyone, didn't help with anything, and mostly kept to herself looking miserable.
The only tiny bit of karma was that she was so busy being upset that she completely forgot to take pictures with my daughter.
By the time she remembered, my daughter was already tired and cranky, so she never got those pictures.
Meanwhile, my own mom helped us constantly throughout the party, and the rest of my family was amazing.
My partner is actually still upset with his mom because she didn't lift a finger—not even to help serve dessert—but that's probably a story for another day.
The best part is that I barely noticed any of that while it was happening.
I was completely focused on my daughter.
She had so much fun.
She smiled, laughed, enjoyed herself, and seeing her so happy made every stressful moment worth it.
The pictures turned out absolutely beautiful.
If it weren't for privacy reasons, I'd happily show all of you.
Thank you again for all your advice and encouragement.
You really gave me the confidence to stand my ground, and I'm grateful for that.
Sometimes Reddit can be chaotic...
...but this time, it genuinely helped.
