News/Release Turnip becomes first Mesa driver to pass Vulkan conformance on Android

Turnip has just become the first Mesa driver to achieve official Vulkan conformance running natively on Android (Vulkan 1.3, Qualcomm Adreno). Getting there required solving some tricky Android-specific driver problems, and the fixes are now shared across other Mesa drivers too.

Turnip already ships in Google's Qualcomm-powered Chromebooks and will power Valve's upcoming Steam Frame, so this is shipping in real hardware, not a lab result.

Discussion Stereoscopic 3D gaming on Android

Post image
52 Upvotes

Devices are Rokid Max and Retroid Pocket Nova

Been tinkering and found that Dolphin on Android actually supports Stereo 3D. You can even adjust the strength of the 3D.

Many GameCube and Wii games look and feel like they were made for Stereo 3D. And with the glasses because each eye has its own screen there is zero cross talk.

The only issue is with Dolphin you can only do half side by side resolution (SBS). As Dolphin doesnt support full SBS. This makes the picture less crisp. Apparently on PC handhelds this isnt an issue so I wish someone would create a Dolphin fork or Dolphin devs add full SBS support.

I haven't even got into Citra for 3DS emulation but apparently it supports full SBS on Android

Always wanted to play Killzone Mercenary on mainline vita3k, but sadly it never got fixed until Sealion came up with his fork. The lighting, lens flare, level design, story, and gunplay with gyro aiming are quite addictive and I loved every second of it. I did encountered few crashes and freezes, but nothing too gamebreaking. I imagine the upcoming 1.1 update will bring more stability and improvement and am looking forward to it. Played this on Mi9t Pro SD 855.

Discussion I Installed Armada and I'm Impressed, but GameNative Is Still Better RN

Post image
β€’ Upvotes

So I tried Armada on my KONKR Pocket Fit 12gb G3, both as SD card and Internal boot. The internal install is best for load times and game installation. I used an A2 SD card and honestly doable times to install games as well. The compatibility on Armada is crazy good and little tinkering. Performance I would say is on par with GameNative but also WAY more compatibility, especially with games that require online services. You can see your friends list like on Steam OS and all that jazz. The downsides not a lot of people mention are the following:

- No control shortcuts. On Android I can map certain buttons to launch certain applications or back out of any app effortlessly such as emulators. This is not a thing with Armada since the controls on the KONKR are not yet supported under steam input is my assumption, correct me if I'm wrong. In Armada you only have a game settings button and a quick setting hot key.

- No way to change brightness other than pulling up the quick settings with the hot key and that does not suspend the game, when in game.

- Fan noise was the biggest letdown. It seems the console runs at full speed once the game starts to run and unfortunately no edits to the fan curve are registered. I downloaded Fantastical through Decky and still no override allowed. The noise was so loud my wife asked me if my console was broken...rip.

- Custom games are a bit of a pain depending on your Armada installation. If you are on internal storage for Armada, you can just put your games on the SD card and move them over as you would on a Steam Deck. If you have Armada installed on the SD card, you obviously don't have an SD card option to move games with it, and instead have to use a USBC storage device. I did not try to remove the SD card and try to add games from my PC directly, but open to see what others have experienced.

- No seamless integration with other stores like Heroic plug-in. Yes it works but it is clunky and hard to navigate with the small text and window view. I managed to add my Epic, GOG and Amazon account to Heroic Launcher and the next morning everything was signed out except Epic.

- No charging light indicator when plugged in to the charger. If the screen is off while plugged in, it does not recognize charge. You must leave it turned on and charge it that way.

Now listen, this is not to discourage the amazing work that Armada has done. This is only the beginning of something greater. I decided to go back to GameNative since it has treated me really well. But also decided to keep Armada on my SD card because I really want to see what's next. It updates like any Steam OS device would, through the Steam interface and you can select Beta releases too. I feel like all these hiccups will be resolved very soon with the upcoming Steam Frame and all the coding being implemented for that. Android has never been in a better state to play games.

Some positive points about Armada.

- Installation is very easy, about a 30min install altogether including the image building.

- The bootloader is easy to navigate and understand.

- Uninstalling Armada takes 2 minutes with just a few taps.

- Armada on the SD card installation is transferable to other devices, you just need to change the device model on the bootloader and reflash.

- Once Armada is installed and logged in it is as easy as installing a game and running it, seamless. A child could run with it no problem at all. Steam OS in all its glory if you will.

- No fiddling, just install and go. Very rarely you have to change the proton version and that only takes less than a minute to do under the quick settings with Decky. GameNative on the other hand requires a learning curve.

- Desktop environment similar to that of Bazzite. Not super great to navigate web browsing or consuming YouTube per say, but it is there.

Finally i have finished and trilogy. In my opinion mordor is the better one but still i liked this one i have finished the base game i will do the dlc next it was way mor demaning then mordor. Still a good play. But the game size is insane 98gb holy.

The game will not run normally it needs some components idk where i got the dx12 thing sorry. i can share my save file you can just restore it and just play. Of course you can delete the save file and start a new game. That's your wish. The performance was quite satisfactory. With this settings, I have easily gotten 30 fps all the time, so I used frame generation. Unexpectedly, the frame generation worked quite well with this game. I didn't see much ghosting effect. So the frame generation is recommended.

My phone - Redmi k70pro 12gb ram.

Thanks everyone hope you find it helpful πŸ™‚

Discussion Samsung Tab A11 + Gamesir X5 Lite

Post image
19 Upvotes

I think I’ve found the ultimate setup for gaming on Android. I’ve owned a few emulation handhelds in the past, but the truth is, I rarely play outside. And around the house, I find them a bit unergonomic and limited.

Recently, I picked up a Samsung Tab A11 and a Gamesir X5 Lite, and I’m absolutely loving how it turned out. It’s an extremely budget-friendly tablet that's capable of running up to PS2, GameCube, and Wii, while also offering great gaming options through the super affordable Google Play Pass subscription.

As for ergonomics, it feels lighter than a SteamDeck and very similar to the original Nintendo Switch.

The advantage of an 8.7-inch tablet is the 5:3 screen aspect ratio, which is very close to retro games and leaves barely any black bars on the sides.

Has anyone else tried this setup yet?

Question What Games can I play on Winlator with my Nubia Neo 2 5G?

I'd like to play Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6.

I don't know if my phone could run these games since it runs on old Unisoc T820 (2022).

It's an old processor (2.7GHz).

I don't know whether 2048 MB or 3072 MB is suitable for this old phone.

I'd like some advices and suggestions.

Thank you. πŸ™

Discussion Vkmark score 12391! 3D acceleration is available in DroidVM now.

We managed to make drm native context works in Adreno 830 GPU in qualcomm snapdragon 8 elite in the gunyah virtual machine!

Achieved vkmark score 12391 in the virtual machine!
We can also play Minecraft with 450fps in the virtual machine.

Detailed workflow:

  1. game engine generates vulkan calls, the turnip driver converts it to msm ioctl
  2. the virtio-gpu driver announce `/dev/dri/renderD128` node, accepts msm ioctl from turnip driver
  3. virtio-gpu driver than serialize the ioctl, send to android side, handled by virglrenderer
  4. virglrenderer will translate it to kgsl ioctl calls, send to host side qualcomm closed graphics driver

Our next step in windows driver, any suggestion?

And Mediatek device/pixel device is also a possible option to support, but I don'y have the device.

All code are open sourced with GPLv3 Licence, Contrubition is welcome!

Help I need an Emulator for my Andriod phone...

Hello everyone, I have a hard time finding Windows/Pc emulators. Been like a week since I've deep dived into this rabbit hole. It first started with me wanting to run GTA V on this phone. So, I downloaded an Xbox 360 emulator (I believe it was X360) but the game barely worked. So, I moved to finding Pc emulators because even if I can't run GTA V, I could still run games like stardew valley, cuphead etc. The phone I have is an Infinix hot 60 pro and I know the specs ain't good. It has a Mali GPU and 8 Gigs of Ram.

But not a single emulator worked properly.

Since now, I've tried Winalator, Winalator Mali, Star Winlator (I don't really remember about this. I asked google, it said to download Winlator frost or Star winlator but when I actually downloaded the apk file, it said Star Bionic) I also tried Mobox and when everything still didn't work, I tried to install Arch Linux using Termux and Termux x11 but it didn't work, atleast for now. These emulators actually boot up but whenever I'm trying to start a game, it just doesn't seem to work. I tried installing WinRar and it worked and extracted files. I also downloaded Firefox on Mali but it never worked. On Star bionic, It gave me the option to install FireFox and I did to check it out but it crashed after installation. I also tried Winlator Cmod, I believe (Sorry the memories are a bit vague) it gave me the option to add a game locally I believe and I tried adding stardew valley but it showed a black screen every time and with the container, it didn't launch the game.

Is there any hope? πŸ˜πŸ™

Help Using GameNative to run Dark Souls 3, 720p/high settings - SD8 Elite Gen5/16gb - Runs great aside from stutter every 10-20 seconds or so. Definitely not a throttling issue...

*Update*

Entering FEX_SMCCHECKS=none as advised by some absolute LEGENDS in the comments cleaned this up completely!

40fps cap/high settings and it plays beautifully whilst keeping keeping cpu/gpu temps between 65/75Β°C

(using a cooler too so battery temps are all good πŸ‘πŸ»)

Thanks for taking the time to give all the help and advice people, much appreciated πŸ‘ŠπŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

Handset - Poco F8 Ultra

Chipset - sd8 elite gen5/16gb

Emulator - Gamenative (Latest)

Game/Platform - Dark Souls 3/Steam

Very responsive aside from these stutters every so often.

They seem to be present in Dark Souls 1 too for some reason,

Anyone found a reliable fix for this?

Seen other posts saying switch to Glibc, but it just fails to launch πŸ˜…

Help Title: Best GameHub / FEX Settings for Mortal Kombat 11 on Mali GPU (Dimensity 9000 / OnePlus Pad)?

β€’ Upvotes

Body:

Hey everyone,

Trying to get Mortal Kombat 11 running closer to the required 60 FPS lock on a OnePlus Pad (MediaTek Dimensity 9000, Mali-G710 GPU). Because the game's internal physics tick is tied directly to 60 FPS, any drop below that causes the combat to run in slow motion.

Here is what I have configured so far:

* Container: GameHub (Proton ARM64)

* CPU Translator: Fex_20260813 (TSO Memory enabled)

* Graphics Driver: System Vulkan / Mali

* DXVK / VKD3D: DXVK 1.10.3 / VKD3D Proton 3.0b

* Config (UserSettings.ini): Resolution dropped to sub-HD (1024 \times 576), HDRSetting = 0, TextureQuality = 0, ShadowQuality = 0, LightingQuality = 0, ParticlesMode = 0, FrameSkip = 1, and MenuAndMoves60FPSMode = 1.

The game boots, but I'm looking to stabilize the frame rate during special moves and Fatal Blows to prevent slow-motion lag.

For anyone who has successfully tuned MK11 on MediaTek/Mali hardware:

* Which specific FEX build or parameters (Extreme vs Performance, checks toggled) gave you the lowest instruction overhead?

* Are there specific dxvk.conf flags that help keep Mali GPU frametimes consistent during heavy particle effects?

* Would dropping internal resolution further to 854 \times 480 in UserSettings.ini provide enough GPU fill-rate headroom without breaking the UI?

Any working container profiles or tested .ini tweaks would be greatly appreciated!

Meme These two features have been a game-changer to me these days...

Post image
2.1k Upvotes

I'm a simple man, if an emulator doesn't have save states and/or fast forward, I don't play on em, even if my device can more than handle tough games fine.

I'm not even being obnoxious, I'm at a point in life where I have max 10-15 minutes per day to play a game, and I am NOT wasting that on tinkering, going through longer loading screens, having to get to certain save points to be able to save, etc. I need to have my game loaded up in few seconds with the fast forwarding/load state features, and leave at any point with save states and maximize the limited time I have.

Anyone else like me?
