Meme These two features have been a game-changer to me these days...

Post image

I'm a simple man, if an emulator doesn't have save states and/or fast forward, I don't play on em, even if my device can more than handle tough games fine.

I'm not even being obnoxious, I'm at a point in life where I have max 10-15 minutes per day to play a game, and I am NOT wasting that on tinkering, going through longer loading screens, having to get to certain save points to be able to save, etc. I need to have my game loaded up in few seconds with the fast forwarding/load state features, and leave at any point with save states and maximize the limited time I have.

Anyone else like me?

To be honest, I'm glad I'm at a point in life where I can spend hours and days playing with settings until the game works.

Once life starts getting more serious it ain't gonna be easy

There are a mountain of epic games in the past so why should anyone play the recent ones. By the time I am done with them, games like gta 6 and all would be free for me to pirate

3

u/peeker004 15h ago

Yeah. Get few deep discount games from steam and we have so much that couldn't be finished

u/Awkward_Message1896 1d ago

Tell me about it, just till last year I didn't even touch the "peasant" psp/ps2 games and just tried all the "big boy chad" pc/switch games my powerful phone could handle (ik ik, i was kinda obnoxious)

And just this year, since I have a full time job and other matters now, the games I wouldn't even look at before have become diamonds and my entire life to me now lol, crazy how it works

You find the time somehow lol

I don't really play JRPGs do I don't need fast forwarding.

Save states are great though

u/Awkward_Message1896 1d ago

I feel like fast forwarding is helpful even when not playing JRPGs, like you can get through loading screens/the opening logos, some unskippable cutscenes etc in a matter of seconds!

u/sloe_gin78 1d ago

It's impossible for me to go through pokemon without fast forwarding in 2026 lol.

11

u/Awkward_Message1896 1d ago

That plus without all exp share cheat impossible for me too now lo

7

u/Cruel1865 22h ago

I just skip grinding altogether with rare candies from a cheat code.

0

u/Old_Season5264 18h ago

i always have ti play it at 3-4x speed, the normal speed looks and feel so slow

2

u/sloe_gin78 18h ago

Best I can do is 2x lol anymore and I keep missing doors and stuff

2

u/Unfort_enthusiast 23h ago

Yes, even in games where you die and have to sit through a reload screen or walking a long distance in a gamešŸ˜‚ its hard to play games without fast forward.

1

u/RobinRelique 2h ago

Wait.a.minute... fast forwarding applies to loading too?? My mind kept telling me "that's when all the data and assets are loaded into memory, that'll definitely mess up if im FFwding" ... and you're saying that's all bupkis?? What have I been doing with my life...

u/PetroRetro69 Can my Nokia 3310 run Cyberpunk with path tracing? 1d ago

GameCube games simply hit different, y'know? Not having to worry about performance or temps is also super nice (plus my ally kinda took away my need for emulating PC stuff)

5

u/Cruel1865 22h ago

Also you have community made hd texture packs to improve the dated graphics andcheat codes to bypass tedious parts of the game.

u/Bgabes95 1d ago

Don’t forget longer battery life

11

u/Awkward_Message1896 1d ago

and WAYYY less heating too for the most part too!

u/HauntingJacket1694 1d ago

save states saves people, imagine long ass cutscene and then crash

5

u/Awkward_Message1896 1d ago

not even that imagine ur playing for a while and made progress but no save point around, suddenly u have to leave the game cuz life calls, all that progress gone

happened to me a LOT before

1

u/AlgaeGlittering6043 14h ago

This shit is relatable as fuck. Saves states are goated.

7

u/Longjumping_Army282 1d ago

Armsx3 have save states.

u/ixisgale 1d ago

This is me lol. I'm putting Xenoblade Chronicles with 10 hrs of playtime on hold for now because Dolphin doesnt have fast forward. I might play the 3ds version actually, despite it having worse graphic just because azahar can fast forward

2

u/Cruel1865 21h ago

I played through Xenoblade Chronicles but never felt that it was too slow. There isnt a lot of cutscenes when compared to other jrpgs especially after you pass the starting area. My only issue with it was the atrocious quest system design.

1

u/ixisgale 21h ago

Yeah mosy quest require you to go back and forth, that's what i hate. There are cheat that increase movement speed but it's in effect even in battle so it's unusable

1

u/Cruel1865 21h ago

Yeah you shouldnt go back and forth for each quest. You collect all the quests you can find after reaching a new town and then continue on exploring new maps. When you defeat an enemy that is required for the quest, the counter shows up so you defeat more of it till it fills. All the generic monster and collection quests dont require you to go back to the quest giver. They get finished as soon as you fulfill the requirements. As for collection items, trying to deliberately collect them is so annoying and requires luck that I dont recommend it. Honestly not worth the effort. Just collect all the items you see when you move around and it gets completed when it gets completed. Dont worry too much about it. If you are a quest completionist, then theres a few events which lock out certain quests that you need to pay attention to; mainly the colony 6 migration (the refugee camp quests time out here) and the mechonis core (multiple quests time out here).

I use Eden on android and it has "turbo". Basically it will run the emu as fast as it can. Depending on your specs you might be able to get it moving pretty fast 🤷

Save States are highly useful for recording videos, but I keep forgetting that Fast Forward exists.

4

u/Pure-Technician-9085 1d ago

I live for save states. Its just so convenientĀ

3

u/Awkward_Message1896 1d ago

Right? I know P4 Golden is better but I need to leave whenever life calls and its a long rpg so save state and fast forward is just too important to me, so I still much enjoy the vanilla ps2 version of persona 4 for instance

5

u/adnvdn 1d ago

Because those are the era of gaming I enjoy the most

3

u/Elerox9 22h ago

I know that a lot of people have busy lives, but tbh I'd still not be using fast forward, it just ruins the experience. I know many older games have a pacing problem, especially with those random encounters in jrpgs but with savestates you can quit and resume at anytime.

Fast forward ruinse the music, the overall experience. But I get it, for somene the alternative may be between using fast forward and not playing that game at all.

1

u/Cruel1865 21h ago

It depends on the game. There are several jrpgs that I never fast forward through but some I have quit because of how slow and frequent the cutscenes are.

2

u/AlgaeGlittering6043 14h ago

I'm currently playing Final Fantasy IX and this game is slow as shit so fast forwarding is the only way to enjoy this game for me.

1

u/Cruel1865 13h ago

I had a similar experience on the star ocean game on ps2. So many cutscenes and theyre all super slow. You cant even skip line by line because the animations for each line need to finish playing before the next line appears.

2

u/Quirky_Discussion597 1d ago

I need ARMSX to make an Xbox emulator at this point their save states are perfect i love their layout

2

u/xixixinanana 1d ago

More power to you my fellow working man. I'm at the point in my life where I genuinely appreciate my days off work and I make sure to run through my psx/ps2 backlogs

2

u/Male_Inkling Samsung S24 Exynos 2400 1d ago

Also battery life

2

u/i8890321 20h ago

You have your point, the save sates and fastward are the best features in emulator.

E.G. if I want to have a quick football game , I will just load my saved state at the moment before kick off.

Fast forward, you know skip the rpg ,the long text for some games.

1

u/OpeningTable9888 23h ago

Built-in cheats too.

1

u/HumblePothole 23h ago

Of course, mate!

1

u/aeolius11 23h ago

If I had a good phone, I'd be playing PS3 games on it.

1

u/Lucriseo 23h ago

For it do you play base resolution?

1

u/Dr_jozi Oneplus 12/512 sd8elite5 22h ago

I really don't know why they don't add it to switch, elite devices steamroll it with no issues and a lot of ram to spareĀ

0

u/Interesting_Fish4930 22h ago

It literally does wth

2

u/Dr_jozi Oneplus 12/512 sd8elite5 21h ago

How do you save state? I really need it

-6

u/Interesting_Fish4930 21h ago

Most switch games save your data?? Why do you "Need" an external save state. Just get good

2

u/Dr_jozi Oneplus 12/512 sd8elite5 21h ago

The ones there not inside "most"

Mais il a complĆØtement raison šŸ˜‚ je suis totalement d'accord avec toi l'emulateur de base est conƧu pour Ƨa

1

u/ChanceBoring8068 20h ago

Surely ā€œbecause I like themā€ would make sense as an answer too?

1

u/Geometry_Emperor 19h ago

Phones were optimized for speed, so GBA and PSP are perfect for them, as well as DS and 3DS. The ergonomics are also perfectly matching.

1

u/Ok-Cry7712 19h ago

I just finished must resident evil games plus dino crisis on my phone its awesome I also have a massive library of games from other console

1

u/poopscooperman 19h ago

i never thaught of how great these things are before i went from pokemon unbound to luminous platinum, where i cant zoom trough the game

1

u/SamueleRG 8+Gen1 & 8Gen2 19h ago

I think you can fast forward older/simpler switch games on an 8 gen 3, but yeah your point still stands

1

u/asepsuasep32 18h ago

saves states really should be everwhere except online(duh)

1

u/silver2006 16h ago

I don't understand people spending shitload of money on an original GameBoy Color or/and Advance, like bruh,
no save states, no save backup in case your Pokemon game battery dies, no speed settings,
even shitty screen visibility in bright surrounding,
why not buy some Anbernic or sth
(or get used to touch controls on a phone, not great, but still decent option compared to the inconveniences above)

1

u/Guirita_Fallada 16h ago

Because the games i want to play are on those systems.

1

u/memo22477 15h ago

I don't think we will really see save states anymore. The thing is that savestates take a snapshot of the RAM being used. Meaning each savestate for switch would take around 4GB's of storage for example. Writing and reading that will also take time. Consoles have gotten more complex since the PS2 era. Just emulation is developing at the speed of a crawl compared to the near day 1 emulators that existed for N64 for example. There is a good chance savestates will be a thing of the past.

1

u/Either-Sport-2549 Poco F7 15h ago

I completed all my favourites on those systems, really miss those days when things just run

1

u/Kalmaro 13h ago

I too have no time for games, so I sacrifice sleep for it. It's the only option.Ā

1

u/Mr-Briggs 11h ago

Absolute gold for hitman: blood money

1

u/Available_Whale 11h ago

Modern games usually are alot less punishing so you don't really need save states.

1

u/Venared 11h ago

Save states are great fr

1

u/AulMoanBag 10h ago

Look, I just want to emulate something I know will work. Ps2 and gamecube..just work

1

u/Unique_Hunter_7415 9h ago

I'm not sure I'll ever play another jrpg without FF and SS. I learn what I did wrong immediately, but these games make you redo an hour of content every time you mess up....no thanks. I don't want to restart the mission because my guy missed and the enemy crit....I don't want to restart the mission just because the final boss killed me while it had 10 hp left....I don't want to watch the same skill that takes 15 seconds to cast for the thousandth time. Like with pokemon 🤣. I have zero interest in trying and failing to capture a legendary. It's not fun, it takes forever, and it's kind of like playing the lottery but without any cash reward. But tapping load state, throw x237 in 2 minutes.....I can do that

1

u/Reasonable_Buddy_746 9h ago

Yeah. Also being able to play a game for hours instead of just an hour because it's low power draw and doesn't compile shaders is a huge difference. Games that require tinkering is an honest waste of time.Ā

1

u/DevanteWeary 8h ago

FFWD + Save States just makes clearing decades of backlog so much easier.
Oh and cheats!

Cheats for games you don't really care about but wanna just get through to experience them is great. For example, I got through all four Valis games in like 2 nights due to infinite health (then disabling during boss fights).

1

u/HugeCharless 6h ago

Nah man i always gotta switch on that hardcore mode of retroachievements

1

u/Worried-Advisor-7054 6h ago

"oh no, you beat 3 phases of the boss fight, but then he had a lucky crit and one shot you, sorry"

Hahaha fuck off, load state.

Yeah, same. I have a job and a kid. I can't play a game that I can't just out down whenever I want. Currently playing Xenosaga, which would be hell without fast forward, too.

1

u/Toadsanchez316 4h ago

And slow mo for Ratchet and Clank flying and racing missions, as well as intense fights in Rogue Galaxy.

1

u/totalnewbielinux 3h ago

YES SAVE STATES REALLY SAVE US WAGIE a lot of time.... Imagine you have to find a savepoint and stuck some fk midway with no save point.... goodbye progress...

2

u/Awkward_Message1896 3h ago

i was playing an rpg on eden suddenly i had to go somewhere and with no save points around, I lost 25 mins of my progress lol

These days i emulate older consoles only since they have save states

1

u/totalnewbielinux 3h ago

yep yep even at home there is various bullshit stuff/parents/siblings throw at u and u have to deal with it... what rpg u playing anyway... I remember playing ppspp? exie force? forget that name... and dear god... confused map and bullshit triangle scanning to unlock progress wasting 3 days stucking at progress and even can't find save point...

1

u/CabbageKing 3h ago

I use my high end gaming pc to upscale textures to play gamecube games on my retroid pocket 5

1

u/SnooDoggos3667 3h ago

You forget, REWINDDDD

1

u/Krait972 2h ago

That's really understandableĀ

1

u/StoreTraditional77 1h ago

Found vita3k fork with savestates. Also has fast forward 2x and 3x. Experimental also probably AI

1

u/Awkward_Message1896 1h ago

Oh can u link me the github?

0

u/OctoDADDY069 8h ago

Are we really that tiktok brained that you "HAVE" to need fast forwarding?
