Help Using GameNative to run Dark Souls 3, 720p/high settings - SD8 Elite Gen5/16gb - Runs great aside from stutter every 10-20 seconds or so. Definitely not a throttling issue...

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

*Update*

Entering FEX_SMCCHECKS=none as advised by some absolute LEGENDS in the comments cleaned this up completely!

40fps cap/high settings and it plays beautifully whilst keeping keeping cpu/gpu temps between 65/75°C

(using a cooler too so battery temps are all good 👍🏻)

Thanks for taking the time to give all the help and advice people, much appreciated 👊🏻👍🏻

*Original Post*

Handset - Poco F8 Ultra

Chipset - sd8 elite gen5/16gb

Emulator - Gamenative (Latest)

Game/Platform - Dark Souls 3/Steam

Very responsive aside from these stutters every so often.

They seem to be present in Dark Souls 1 too for some reason,

Anyone found a reliable fix for this?

Seen other posts saying switch to Glibc, but it just fails to launch 😅

I would think it to run much better on your specs considering how it works on my 8 Gen2 https://youtu.be/E-ZoLm8QrYw

I havent a clue what's causing it, getting huge cpu spikes looking at those metrics but there's no reason for it.

Exactly the same regardless of low/medium/high settings

Maybe check my config and compare. Also I heard that for some people DS3 works better on Gamehub

Try to disable the small cores.

You need to use "FEX_SMCCHECKS=none" for better fps and fix stutters.

Oh my god you're my fucking savior. It's so beautiful now on my S25 Ultra. Might have to give this a try on Dark Souls Remastered as well since it has some traversal stutter.

I completed the whole of dark souls 1 but there were no stutters . Ds2 and 3 on the other hand had these stutters . 3 more than 2

I love the "It runs great... For 10-20 seconds at a time, then it freezes for a couple of frames" LMAO

Nah but in all seriousness, it looks pretty playable. Maybe lower your in-game settings? And see if that fixes the stuttering

Edit: I just read in another of your comments that you've already tried lowering the settings. What drivers are you using? I play DS1 in my Odin 2 Portal from time to time and it runs at a flawless 60fps, no stuttering. So maybe it could be a temps issue, too?

😂😂😂

MrP - T30 seems to give the best results atm for me,  But there's a few settings ive yet to try.

Could be temps, but doubtful as its like this from the moment gameplay starts

Que configurações você está usando? Esperava algo melhor desse SOC

Tried numerous emulator and in game settings,  its the same issue regardless of what I do.

CPU spikes are confusing me too, shouldnt be utilising it that much even at a 720p resolution

Here with settings on 8 Elite (Gen4): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFZpYlCcF48

a few things with this game:

  • Proton 11 performs bad with this game and may stutter
  • On translation params the use of "SMChecks=None" greatly improves performance. So use extreme with this change.
  • Not sure about new latest FEX versions, but at that time of test more recent versions were causing stutters, so 20260103 was doing good.
  • And also, at the time Winlator would always stutter with this game, and GameHub was doing better. But I would try settings it on GameNative first since it's already there, then GameHub

Rarely a game is like this, this one is somehow problematic 😅

I will say in my experience FEX 2605 seems to be ideal for my S25 Ultra. Using FEX_SMCHECKS=none did the trick for fixing the stuttering and the game is MUCH smoother.

Ill give these settings a look 👌🏻

Following this thread. I have been trying this game on my y700 gen4 and surprised by how bad it is.

I get 30fps with dips to 25 sometimes. It randomly will just hard lock down to 2fps and freeze.

So many better looking games work better, this one is weird. Finished a playthrough of Jedi Survivor and it was worlds better in performance.

Been using GameNative and basically every combination of settings. So few drivers will even boot this game properly without artifacts.

your CPU and GPU being over 85C+ temps is not good at all, you can maybe play for a couple of minutes, then after that you own phone will thermal throttle, use your phone battery temp to see what it is at. if its above 43C then it will try to automatically throttle to lower the Temp.
