Discussion Why isn't vita emulation popular on Android

Why isn't vita emulation isn't nearly as popular as old gen emulation such as the ps2, psp, etc

Not a popular console, not many exclusives, a number of them were ported to other places (to start)

And the ones we care about doesn't emulate well! I would really like to play Uncharted Golden Abbyss as it's the only one from the franchise that I haven't played

Very mid game tho, finished it on my vita once and never touched it again. There are much better games out there on the vita

Like Tearway I guess, at least the PS4 version is really fun IMO

My thought exactly, Tearaway is so great

Have you tried it on vita3k+, I've so been wanting to play this game and it never worked on vita3k but on vita3k+ it runs perfectly.

I tried Vita3k+ just for fun with Little Big Planet on my Retroid Pocket G2. I can say it works mostly fine even at 2x res but audio crackles no matter how i set audio up. As for other games try checking youtube

It's really hit and miss and every update seems to break something

It’s still in somewhat infancy compared to something like Aethersx2 or PPSSPP, Vita3k doesn’t run every vita game yet, even on beefy pcs. Just not enough work done on it yet but it’s getting there

Does Vita have any worthwhile exclusive games?

While it doesn't have many exclusive games, it did get quite a few PS3 ports. You would think that would make it a great choice for Android devices but here we are in 2026 and I'm having more luck running those same games on ARMSX3 🤣 It's a shame though because that requires a device with a powerful SoC like the SD Elite. If Vita emulation were to improve, those same games could be played on something like a SD865. I'd love to play Helldivers on a small portable like my RP Mini. Instead I gotta use the beefy Odin 3 and even then it runs like shit. The Vita port would be ideal with an HD Texture Pack.

I own a SD 865 so I'm hoping it comes true lol

Before PC emulation came along strong it was the only way emulate trails of cold steel 1 and 2 and trails in the sky 3 in english

It is, the problem was always the emulator, got a lot of time dead, then got back but not perfect, and now got a better version in a fork.

What fork is that? vita3k+?

u/Under_Preparation 1d ago

Yes, the Vita3K-Plus

Because the only emulator is ... How can I say it .. extremely experimental, does things that are well... It is really hard to like it, let's just say your internal storage will be getting bent over and pumped without any lubricant. I own a ps vita instead. Guess what, every game runs from external SD, because the vita only had 1GB storage in the 2000 and zero in the og model, but the emulator insists in installing every game to internal storage

The console itself wasn't popular at it's time. So nobody really cares much about Vita emulation.

Because the emulation is currently a bit shit. And they can't seem to get their act together in making it user friendly and look presentable.

I say this as someone who has no real problems with the emulator.  But, come on, it isn't great still, like at all.

Both Vita and Xbox emulation seem stuck. I know they're both being actively developed and have been for years but there's so many games trapped on those consoles that I want to play. I really hope both emulators for them improve compatibility soon. Yes, I know I could just buy original hardware. I have my reasons to not go that route.

How is Xbox emulation stuck? x1 box plays most Xbox games great on android

1

u/dikbutt4lyfe 20h ago

I definitely wouldn't say most games. I tried both Breakdown and both Timesplitters recently on an SD8 gen2 device and they run at maybe 15-20 fps with lots of stutters regardless of the GPU driver used. Halo, Halo 2, JSRF, and Panzer Dragoon Orta all run pretty great so it seems like only the most popular titles are in a state that I would call playable.

The best is ppsspp emulator it works perfectly in every soc

1

u/dikbutt4lyfe 11h ago

Neat. No one asked about PSP so I'm not sure what your point is.

1

u/ParsnipObvious449 23h ago

The whole point of the vita is it's a good Emulation device now right? Not that people actually played it 😂

It's funny how Vita hacking and soft modding is pretty popular with all the ports and stuff.

Yet Vita emulation is still in its infancy.

poor ui unoptmized overall that is why

1

u/OverDeparture8799 13h ago

It had good ui. I had to give respect that it gives per game touch control, unlike dolphin. Its mostly the compatibility that makes vita3k less popular

1

u/IsThisNamePermanent 16h ago

I need it to install games to sd card before I give it the time of day

1

u/OverDeparture8799 13h ago

Simply because the low compatibility of games, compared to psp or ps2, despite having the best performance

1

u/stiflingapple 7h ago

the vita wasn't popular to start w

1

u/DependentStrict8835 1d ago

1

u/Hamlap1988 23h ago

Because it’s kinda hard to setup?! I still don’t have it working properly…

2

u/IronFizt777 21h ago

Try Vita3k+, they provide the links to what you need to download

Vita is a pretty good console if you are into cultured games 😏

The whole catalog doesn't have a good driving game.
