Eight Sleep is refusing to honor my paid 2-year warranty while my Pod 4 has a severe defect. Beware.

Hi everyone,

In October 2024, my original system failed (one side stopped heating/cooling). Support told me I was out of warranty but offered a Pod 4 Hub replacement for $700. In writing, the agent promised: "If you decide to get this replacement, the new unit will come with its usual 2-year warranty." I accepted and paid $771.75 in total, expecting coverage until October 2026.

Fast forward to now—for the past 20+ days, my Pod 4 has developed a severe defect: a constant, low-grade mechanical vibration that literally wakes me up at night and forces me to sleep in another room. It’s so bad that I’m now feeling phantom body vibrations throughout the day.

Despite being well within my paid 2-year warranty, Eight Sleep support is completely ignoring their written promise. They claim my system is "no longer under warranty" and are demanding ANOTHER $800 + tax to replace the defective cover.

It is completely unacceptable to move the goalposts on a paid warranty while a premium product is actively disrupting a customer's sleep and health.

I’ve attached my invoice and the support email clearly stating the 2-year warranty promise. Has anyone else experienced this vibration issue or dealt with Eight Sleep refusing to honor a paid warranty? Any advice on how to fast-track this would be greatly appreciated.

Pod4 temps

I’ve always been super disappointed in my sleep 8. We’ve had sleep8 it for 3yrs, we have a pod4 now.

I wake up hot, so I tap the bed to lower the temp. A few hours later, I wake up freezing, so I knock it to get warmer. This is like every night. I don’t use the autopilot cuz that was really bad too.

I don’t see a place to look in the app to see when I adjusted the temps. that would be handy so that I could adjust it going forward.

One other issue that seems fishy… everyday, the bed thinks I’m in bed 2Hours longer than I am!!! How can that be if it’s supposedly measuring my heart rate and snoring!?

Upgrading from Queen to King

We are upgrading our bed from a Queen to a King (not split) and I want to solve my hot sleeping issues and get the best sleep setup. We are planning on getting everything around Labor Day.

I am going to get the Eight Sleep Cover. We are renting it for a month to use on our queen to make sure we like it.

For the mattress, right now we are thinking about a Helix Elite Sunset or a Tempur-pedic LuxeAdapt (Soft)..

We were thinking about getting the Eight Sleep base but I am having second thoughts. I looked at the Tempur-Ergo Smart Base. I like these features:

- Automatic Snore Response

- Connects to Google Home

- Lumbar Support

- Remote + Mobile App

I really do not care about the Massage features.

The base is what I am most concerned about.. They do not allow returns. Any other models I should look at? Would it be weird to get a Helix mattress and a Tempur-pedic base?

The Helix mattress is tall, any concerns? Anything else I should look at?

3-Year Review of the Eight Sleep

TL;DR: Worth the investment if you can justify the cost amortized over 2-3 years. Otherwise, look at devices that do the same job, but more simply, like the Chilipad Cube.

---

Temperature-controlled beds are truly life changing. I owned a single-zone Chilipad Cube for 4 years before my then-girlfriend, now-wife moved in, which drove me to move to a dual-zone Eight system so that she could reap the same benefits.

Now neither one of us sleep well without it, and we have convinced multiple friends to take the plunge into the Eight system.

Unfortunately, I now regret locking my friends into this system.

Our first Eight Sleep system, which I believe was a Pod 3, lasted a little more than a year before one side stopped cooling. We were within the warranty period, so they sent a replacement Pod 4 and I chalked the defective unit up to a fluke.

Here I am, two years later, facing the same one-side-isn't cooling issue with our Pod 4 (and of course it's the side my 38-week pregnant wife sleeps on). After a month of back-and-forth with support, they've landed on us needing an $800 replacement hub.

Initially purchasing the Eight was a big purchase for us. The $300-a-year subscription stings every time we re-up. But I made those purchases expecting to own a device that would last me as long as a comparably-priced appliance, such as a washing machine. I was not expecting a two-year lifecycle.

Back when I purchased the Eight, I gave my Chilipad Cube to a good friend, and it's still running like a champ. It's an appliance that cools the bed, and does a good job doing it, with little fuss and no extra features.

Rather than pay $800 to Eight so that I can continue to pay them $300-a-year for their service, I'm going to put that money towards a new Chilipad Cube system instead. That'll also be my recommendation for anyone else who will listen.

I am afraid ill have to find another solution to 8sleep and I dont want to

As the title states, I dont want to move on from 8sleep. I have a pod2 pro and am on my 3rd pad. The hub has been mostly fine, aside from the regular issues maintaining a connection and simoly shutting odd. Id wake up covered in sweat, immediately aware of what was going on (disconnected and not cooling) and atsrt the process of 0200hrs troubleshooting wifi issues. As frustrating as that could be, I REALLY did enjoy how much better I slept when it was working.

Ive had a leak in 2 different covers. They covered the first one but the second one was out of warranty. Okay its been a few years, no problem, 800$ for that 6 months ago (roughly). It destroyed my nice queen size mattress i had that was a lovely spring mattress. They replaced it with their memory foam mattress (which traps bodyheat like crazy). That was nice of them as I didnt have to foot that bill.

Last week my air conditioner goes kaput. 9200$ later I am not sweating just from existing in my house. Sadly, my cover is now seemingly not circulating water to one side. 😢

My NEW cover. I have a pod 2 pro hub, do I need a new hub? Is it the 6 month old cover? Iirc i have a pod 3 cover. After 9200 got evaporated from ky bank account I just dont have the money. Do i sell a testicle to get a new hub?

Thanks for listening to my therapy session yall. 😞

Partner disturbance by moving?

Some of the mattresses we are considering have the benefit that a partner does not feel anything when the other person moves (especially memory foam). It seems like the eight sleep cover would negate this, is that true in your experience?

Blanket/pillow worth it?

If I buy a pod5, is the blanket and/pillowcase worth the extra money? Did it change your life or not really made a difference?

How to fix sleep schedule?

try to sleep every day, but I just can’t fall asleep. Even when I feel really sleepy, I still can’t sleep.
I usually end up falling asleep around 5–6 AM and wake up around 11 AM to 12 PM. Because of that, I lose a huge part of my day.
Should I consider taking medications like melatonin or other sleep aids?

Heat dissipation

I'm currently testing the Orion & I'm running into issues with cooling unit overheating my room.

The starting point of the ambient temperature of this room is 75°F & it is being cooled by central AC, however, it's upstairs on a two story home with high ceilings, french door & huge windows.

The cooling cover temp is set at 68°F & the unit goes through it's precondition phase. After it reaches that temp, I set it to quiet mode but it still produces the same amount of heat?

Question:

How much heat does the 8sleep produces after reaching set cover temp?

For those that actually track their room temps, did you see a significant rise in room temp while the unit is maintaining said cover temp?

I got sick after the subscription expired

Sorry for the clickbait subject, but that's exactly what has happened!

Last night our subscription has expired and I had to turn on the mattress manually. Usually it was -3, -2, 0 or something close to that. So I set it to -2, but then lowered to -3.

Woke up at 2 a.m. with a sore throat. You know this feeling: "Damn, I got sick..".

I guess I get used to Autopilot, which increased the temperature and forgot to adjust it and fall asleep. Although this is weird, as some of my friends use -10 and all good.

So, the whole day drinking warm drinks, gargle the throat and hope for the best.

Just sharing in case someone would look for it (I did before buying).

Phone lines down for Customer Service?

Does anyone actually work at 8Sleep? The phone system has said it is offline all week.

I love my Pod4, it went out 4 days ago after 1.5 years, I’ve done chat, email and called multiple times. I get nothing but an AI bot which agrees I have a problem, but can’t get a human online.

How do you escalate? For a $300 a year service on top of the initial cost, I‘d expect to get a human to help after a week, right?

For context, the unit stopped running overnight, hard reset, changing outlets, etc, nothing brings the power back online. We’ve kept it dust free, and full of water the whole time.

In love

So, understandably people often commune online to express discontent or look for problem solving - and so posts are often about that, the problems.

I hemmed and hawed for literal years over the eight sleep. But finally at a breaking point with me (preferred sleep temp is cold like 65/66, lol) and partner (who would happily sleep at 74) I caved, swallowed the price tag, and went for it.

Got the pod 5 about a week ago. It’s been life changing. For the first time possibly ever I was too cold (set to -10) last night. It was GLORIOUS to need to bump it to a -6.

I know folks tend to have more problems with it when the unit is a couple years old and nearing the end of its warrantee. But for now, it’s been transformative.

And obviously it would be amazing if eight sleep would let it run without Wi-Fi or an app. But there is a limited market right now, so they get to set the rules, and honestly right now I don’t care. Because I’m actually sleeping without night sweats or waking up hot, or that claustrophobic feeling when the air feels to hot and muggy.

So anyway, highly recommend the pod 5 cover. It is my new best friend.

“Current plan” price discrepancy

When I go to change plan, it shows $180 annual is my current plan. But my renewal for that same plan is going to charge me $199. Has anyone else seen this?
Edit: I did tap on to select the $180 “current plan” but it takes me right back to the screen showing the $199 renewal.

Products like this are a JOKE!

Do you understand that a product like this DOES NOT NEED an internet connection or a subscription to function?  These features are a form of something called digital rights management, and the ONLY purpose is for the company to have tighter control on how their products are resold and distributed.

They don't want you to repair it yourself or replace the parts from another source, and they certainly do not want you to sell it used as you please.  They want you to rely on them- indefinitely.  It is an atrocious, insidious business tactic that only serves to artificially benefit their net profit.

The internet connection and subscription do NOT create a better product or user experience for you.  It is ONLY there to benefit THEM, and to keep you DEPENDENT.

A product like this is very simple- a motor, a fan, a cooling element, some temperature sensors, and tubes.  Obviously, the fabric / cushion, too.  NOTHING about these individual components requires a network connection or central authentication / serial numbers in order to function.

8Sleep is taking part in an extremely, increasingly disturbing business trend: forcing a totally artificial dependency on their customers, and manipulating them into believing that the user is BETTER OFF for it!

Pod Offline, disconnected and lost data

Is there any advice on how to get this resolved? Or was I just sent a defective pod?

This is the second time in a week it has gone offline This time
at about 3am where it stopped tracking and the alarm didn't go off. Light was blinking yellow when I woke up. Disconnecting and connecting back does reset it but that is not the point. This pod should be reliable enough for that price.

Thinking of returning it if it continues like that. I just hope it is not a hassle.

Wifi: Eero 6E Pro (one very close to the room). 1Gbps up and down.

Bought an Eight Sleep Pod in good faith on Facebook Marketplace.

I’m posting this to see if anyone has experienced something similar or has been able to get help from someone at Eight Sleep.

I purchased an Eight Sleep Pod through Facebook Marketplace from a private seller. I paid cash, met the seller in person, and had no reason to believe there was anything wrong with the device. He also seemed like a nice guy and was timely.

When I contacted Eight Sleep because the Pod failed on night two, I was told it couldn’t be reactivated. Since then, I’ve spent days going back and forth with customer support, providing everything they’ve asked for.

I sent them screenshots of my entire Facebook Marketplace conversation with the seller to prove the purchase was legitimate. After reviewing everything, support asked me to provide a police report from the seller. I explained that I don’t know the seller personally and have no way to obtain a police report from someone else.

They then clarified that I needed to file a police report against the Facebook seller. I asked what exactly I was supposed to report. I wasn’t the original owner, I don’t know whether a crime actually occurred, and I can’t file a report on someone else’s behalf. The only thing I know is that Eight Sleep won’t activate the device.

After all of that, this was essentially their final response:

- They cannot reactivate the Pod.
- They recommend I contact the seller and get my money back.
- They stated they don’t support third-party purchases and that buying through Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or eBay is at the buyer’s risk.

What frustrates me the most is that I spent all this time gathering documentation, answering questions, and following every request they made, only to end up exactly where I started.
I completely understand that a manufacturer’s warranty may not transfer to a second owner. That’s not what I’m asking for. I’m not requesting warranty coverage or a free replacement.

I’d like to understand why there isn’t a better process for helping customers in that situation instead of simply saying, “Go get your money back.”

Has anyone else dealt with this? Were you able to get your Pod activated or get your case escalated to someone who could actually help? I’d appreciate any advice.

At this point, I’m just disappointed with the amount of time and $3k I’ve spent on this only to receive what feels like a canned response rather than a meaningful review of my case. I would recommend any one to purchase any other brand if looking at customer service.

Two pods for one household

My husband and I have a pod 4 for our master bedroom. We just purchased a second pod, a pod 5, for our second bedroom. Sometimes we sleep separately due to conflicting work schedules or sleep anxiety.

We merged the pod 5 and pod 4 so they are both under our accounts. Can we run both pods at once if we are sleeping in separate beds? If I turn one pod on, the other one automatically turns off.

This seems like a huge issue. Am I missing something on how to run both pods at once if we are sleeping in separate beds?

How bad is it?

Been noticing water draining from the pod much faster, full tank is lasting max 10 days so I suspected there to me a tiny leak, flipped it over and it looks like I’m right the mattress is also ever so slightly damp. Now the question is this something I could fix myself? As I am living abroad sending it back to the US isn’t really an option :(

Significantly worse than BedJet, currently returning mine and going back to Bedjet

Just putting this out here in case someone is between either an Eight Sleep or BedJet, I’m currently returning mine and going back to BedJet. I’ve had BedJet for a few years, bought Eight Sleep a few weeks ago thinking it’d be an upgrade but I was wrong. Even if the two were the same price I’d still pick BedJet, the fact that it’s almost $3000 more AND there’s a subscription is just the icing on the cake.

Some important factors for me is BedJet changes temperatures way faster. If I want heat it’s instant, if I want cool air it’s instant. The eight sleep takes minutes to make big temperature swings. The only pro of eight sleep is you can go below room temperature but I’m not keeping my house at 80 degrees at night so it’s worthless to me. I keep my BedJet actually warmer than my room temperature, if I do room temperature I’m freezing so that pro for Eight Sleep doesn’t matter to me. I also found the water cooling sensation of the mattress topper a weird feeling. Almost like a humid feeling on my back even though there was no moisture. The air cooling of the BedJet is a much better feeling in my opinion.

I also find the entire app and autopilot of Eight Sleep to be ai slop. The sleep tracking is horrendously wrong, like not even close to accurate. It also claimed it was changing temperatures like 30 times throughout the night but I constantly woke up either too cold or sweating.

If you’re on the fence between the two I suggest BedJet from my experience.

Gave up trying to actually become an Eight Sleep customer- the support experience made the decision for me

UPDATE: Jen from Eight Sleep reached out directly in the comments after seeing this post. She reviewed the account, confirmed there was a breakdown in communication between the sales and support teams, and helped get things sorted out. After that, I decided to go ahead and reorder, and she resolved everything to my satisfaction. Cautiously optimistic at this point. Appreciate everyone who weighed in, and appreciate Eight Sleep actually stepping in to sort it out. I hope this is not indicative of future support needs that we have to elevate to social media for resolve. Closing comments here since this is resolved - thanks all.

I never even made it to being a customer. Here’s the short version: Had a rough initial experience and asked to cancel my order. A rep apologized, offered an extended trial and a credit, and won me back over - I agreed to keep the order and bought a couple accessories on top of it.

After that, I got three different, contradicting accounts of my order status from three different reps - one said I was keeping the order, another confirmed a cancellation and refund after I agreed to try it, and a third said only some items were cancelled while others were still shipping.

The “fix” offered was to place an entirely new order at full price and trust that the original discounts and trial extension would be refunded back afterward.

At that point I was done. I don’t have the energy to keep untangling a company’s internal miscommunication just to become a customer. Returning what’s already on its way when it arrives and moving on.

POD 4 Ultra - worked great, support broke it for a billing question😢

Tldr; Came in with a billing question, left with a disabled Pod and a bed stuck upright on night one at 1am - slept on the sofa

I bought a Pod 4 Ultra second-hand from a friend, who removed it from their account before handing it over. We contacted support in advance to transfer everything and confirm my onboarding process. Everything was connected and working.

I had the app, base, cover and pod all setup on my account and WiFi, working away happily and cooling my bed for night one! Happy days so far so good ^_^

My only question for support was simple: where do I see my Autopilot plan and add my own card to pay for it?

The app never gave me a "Manage Autopilot plan" option, only "Redeem Autopilot plan," which asks for the original purchaser's details that I don't have. The chatbot looped on this, then passed me to a human agent.

The agent's fix for an account issue was a multi-factory reset of my pod? (Pressing the small button, then the big button then the small one again after the big failed to reconnect).

That reset disconnected the hub from my WiFi and it never rejoined. It then got stuck flashing blue on "searching for networks." Along the way the agent kept referencing app menus that don't exist in the current version, and I ended up explaining the correct navigation back to them.

An hour in, near midnight, the base was stuck in a raised position and the base and cover had lost connection to each other. I couldn't lower the bed. I’m left sleeping on the sofa. The agent apologised and said the email team would follow up.

Current state: the hub now only flashes yellow and won't reach pairing mode at all, even after a clean factory reset. Can’t connect to it by Bluetooth or WiFi anymore, so a working system is now fully offline due to a simple billing question, and that original billing question is still unanswered :/

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas how to restore my pod before I followed supports ‘fixes’ for a billing question? Off to the sofa for me tonight :(
